As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I kept thinking that my mom might like to have a sit down dinner on our Epcot day. We're already doing Garden Grill for breakfast. She will have a scooter, but many of us know about Orlando heat in June, and I just want to do something to give us all, but her in particular, a break from it. So, as you can see by the title, I've booked Rose and Crown. First, they have something I know my boy will eat (fish and chips), and I've sort of wanted to try it for a while. Last year, we "dinnered" at Via Napoli, and we loved it, but actually DS Joel didn't really feel compelled to repeat it this time. So, Rose and Crown it is.
Fish and chips? Is it pretty standard? Nothing odd that we might need to know about?
What else is good? Mom and I will try other things.
Any experiences to share? Thanks.

I usually get the cottage pie which is pretty good. DH gets the strip steak. Not the best steak on property but decent. I may try the chicken tika masala next trip.
I could go there for nothing but that and a cup of tea and be very happy indeed!
The smoked salmon plate or potato-leek soup are very good appetizers.
I like the shepherd's pie or bangers and mash (might want to share as it's ample). DH has had the corned beef on toast and liked it.
Their fish and chips is very good indeed with a nice light batter on beautifully cooked fish.
Really, I don't think you can go far wrong with anything you get there. It's one of our must-do's.
Ah, this is good news! I know how much you like your meals. I already scoped out the menu, including desserts, on allears and wondered if Joel might like the sticky toffee pudding. For a young man who doesn't like to eat things out of his comfort zone, he will sometimes try a new thing or two, and I sometimes have luck with desserts. I might order one for the three of us to share.
I've seen the loaded Yorkshire pudding looks pretty appetizing, too.
What about seating? Mom doesn't like outdoor seating, even covered, so we need to be indoors. Should I make a request?

Now we are picky, being British, about the food at the Rose and Crown (it tends to not be completely authentic shall we say? ) but that does look good.

I think that the Rose and Crown has improved over the years - we like it, although I do like the outdoor seating, especially in the evening for Illuminations. It may not be completely authentic, but it serves the purpose for me.
We really enjoyed Rose & Crown. My daughter got the fish and I got the steak. Both were very good. The sticky toffee pudding was wonderful! Like Dot, I could go back there just for that. And when I asked the waiter how authentic it was, it said it tasted very close to what his mom would make. Now, I don't know if they have to say that or he was really telling the truth. Either way, it was delicious.
Okay, gotcha Cheryl, about the authenticity. For we Yanks, it won't be as big a deal, but I can certainly understand your perspective. My mom has visited your neck of the woods more than once, and I think she might have fun with the comparison.
I'm just glad to know we can all eat and be out of the heat for a while. I myself would love to eat on the terrace, but my mom just hates that, and I wouldn't do it to her.

Pretty bog-standard. IIRC, shows up in a waxed paper cone - or maybe that was just the fries, I don't quite recall.
It wasn't the absolute best fish-and-chips I've had (honestly, that goes to a place about a mile and a half up the road from here - yum!) ... but it would easily make the Top Ten, and was quite good.

Try a scotched egg. It's a hard boiled egg, that's been wrapped in sausage meat, and that then covered in breadcrumbs, and the whole thing then gets fried. (Pan fried I think, but I'm not 100% sure of that). Surprisingly tasty ... as is the mustard-based sauce it comes with (on the side, though I may have asked for that specifically).
I'm a very picky, meat-and-potatoes guy normally, but for our '14 trip I resolved to be a bit adventurous and try _something_ different at every TS meal - often an appetiser item. For our Rose-and-Crown meal, I went with a scotched egg.
Now, I consider it a "must repeat" meal, and food item, for future trips. I'll go to R&C ALONE if I have to. Yes, I found it THAT tasty!

I know what you mean! During the F&WF they have the Polish booth and I cringe when I hear people say how good the pierogis are. Those are some of the worst pierogi I have ever tried in my life. As far as the Rose and Crown, I had the bangers and mash and it was good. Not as good as the ones I had in London though.
I really enjoy Rose & Crown! The theming is excellent (as are most WDW restaurants.). There are 3 different rooms that are designed after 3 types of pubs in England. I don't remember all of the details, but if you look you can see the different details and decor as you walk from one area to another. And there is also the outdoor seating which can be lovely on a nice day. The view of WS lagoon is great! If you have a preference as to where to eat let then know when you check in. The hosts will try to accommodate you.
As to the food I've tried many things. I think my favorite is to have a couple of appetizers and then the Sticky Toffee Pudding. I recommend the cheese platter, the smoked salmon and the salad. As for entrees my favorite is probably the Bangers and Mash. I'm not a fan of fried fish, but my DH enjoyed then here. I think you'll find it's a nice place to relax and enjoy a meal.
