Escaping The Brutal Northeast For Sunny, Warm Florida and Fun! Completed 7/12 - Page 38 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We ate at Paradiso 37 not long after it opened. The service wasn't great back then either and the food was Ok, but not spectacular, so we've never been back. It sounds like it was a lot of fun when you got back to the resort!
The service at Paradiso 37 needs some work, but I really enjoyed my meal! You can't beat Bob's show at Riverside! Have you and Mark ever had the chance to see him?

What a great night! Sorry about the service at dinner. At least the food was good!
I had a great time that night in DTD and really enjoyed my meal, even if the service was a bit off for certain!

the last time we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside was back on our honeymoon in 1999. It's not somewhere we'd head to for the evening from the resorts we stay in, as we wouldn't go there for dinner (we ate at the resort restaurant a couple of times before and weren't impressed). Also, there's really nowhere else close around that we'd visit of an evening - maybe once there are more restaurants to try at Disney Springs, we can pop in there afterwards?

That is a good point your making as unless you're staying there, you won't venture there! I'm with you on that as I dined at Boatwright's for dinner once and just thought it was ok! Service wasn't the best as not the prime WDW staff they have working there! When I did a split stay in 2012 at CSR and WL I didn't make a separate trip there. That's what makes the deluxes so good as you have some great dining choices, if you want to spend some time at a particular resort!

So glad they were able to recover from the timing issues at dinner! Yeehaw Bob lkooks like a ton of fun!
The great food made up for it and I wasn't about to allow that to ruin my dining experience here! This happened to me on a few occasions on other trips. One I recall, in which they did the same thing with my entree was at Il Mulino at The Swan.

A Great Last Full Day and a New Dining Experience!
Thursday, April 3 (PartI)
Today started as a perfect weather day, when I opened up the blinds it was quite sunny and the forecast called for bright sunny skies and temps in the low 80's. It would remain that way for my day and a perfect day to go to the parks!
I slept in a bit after another late night as this seems to be the usual for me. I got up around 7:30 am and after showering etc., I walked over to Riverside Mill around 8:15 am or so to have some breakfast. The usual standard stuff for me with OJ, coffee, a Greek yogurt and a banana. Enough to get me started for the day.
I rwturned to my room for a little while, got everything organized for my day and watched a bit of WDW programming to get primed for a full day in the parks! Walked over to the North Depot bus stop around 9:30 and waited for a bus for the Magic Kingdom. It was a bit of a wait at around 15 minutes. I hate the waiting but had plenty of time as my first Fastpass+ ressie had not begun yet. After another two stops in Riverside, we were on our way to the MK and arrived there in five minutes or so before 10 am Quite a short ride from Riverside!
I always enjoy the arrival and entry to the Magic Kingdom as it’s always so special, no matter how many times I visit here. My first Fastpass+ wasn’t until 10:10 am, so I could take my time getting there over to Tomorrowland and Space Mountain.
Astro Orbiter in Tommorrowland
PeopleMover in Tomorrowland, which I always ride every trip and did so before my first Fastpass+ for the day! Enjoyable as ever. Always like this ride whenever the lights are on inside Space Mountain as you can see the erector set type configuration of the attraction and is quite amazing to see! Unfortunately, this only happens when the ride is shut down with some sort of problem!
Space Mountain was a enjoyable and thrilling as ever and one of my favorites in WDW. Tough for photos here with lack of lighting! The bumping, grinding jerking around and speed of the ride, I love so much! Although, earlier in this trip wasn’t so as this had some impact in displacing my reading glasses! At least I was able to recover them as I had a good idea of where they could be!
Exiting Space Mountain
I checked the wait times for SM (after exiting) as I thought about riding it again, but the Stand By was stated at 60 minutes. The lines were quite long in there and took about 10 minutes in the FP line once you scanned your Magic Band in the ride area! (when I was on earlier) So, worse now, so not worth waiting! I headed off to Fantasyland for my next Fastpass+, which was the new Barnstormer. I rode this a few days ago and enjoyed it, but was over far too quickly! I don’t think it lasts more than 30-40 seconds from start to finish!
I can’t believe in my six days here, that I never entered the Big Top here to explore and see the shops etc. Next time, I guess.
Some good entertainment in Fantasyland!
Never comprehended why so many people find clowns to be evil (or fear them) in some regard. I’m perplexed by this! Certainly not in WDW!
No evil to this!
Not much of a line for The Barnstormer and I was off the ride in under five minutes. Probably, didn’t need a Fastpass+ for this! Although, a few days ago the wait was about 25 minutes and of course, I didn’t have a Fastpass that day. It was actually late in the day I rode this just before dinner at BOG and that was probably the shortest of Standby waits in the MK that evening!
The castle of our “Beloved” Beast!
I explored more of Fantasyland for a while and admired the German style architecture, which I admire greatly having been to Germany and seeing it in the Alsace region of France as well in 2013 ! I also did this to kill some time as I had around 30 minutes until my lunch ADR in the MK.
Now out of Fantasyland and a fairly short walk to Liberty Square.
A great attraction in the MK, but not enough time to see before lunch.
Two of my favorite characters Chip & Dale somehow knew I would be in the Magic Kingdom today!
I arrived at Liberty Tree Tavern just before noon for my ADR and was looking forward to it as this would be another new dining experience for me. I was also looking forward to seeing the theming inside, which I had heard so much about.
I went inside and checked in for my ADR and had to wait about 15 minutes for my pager to go off. They were quite busy, but was surprised the wait was this long as my ADR was for noon and an early lunch ! So I relaxed for a bit inside from all the walking this morning and also getting some nice photos of the historical theming within!
I love the traditional late 1700's dress of the CM’s at LTT. It feels so home like here (being from the New England area) and brings you back to a different period in the infancy of the United States and feel like you’re part of it with the intricate theming. I can’t remember the name of my CM, who served me, but she was very good. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of my lunch, which I really enjoyed. I had the Angus beef bacon cheddar cheeseburger with coleslaw, fries and a coke.
I was quite full after lunch as it was quite a big burger, so I tried walking it off for a few minutes before making my way for my next attraction this afternoon!
I caught a bit of the afternoon show for a few minutes, before returning back through Liberty Square to my next order of business for the day!
This was it and not bad for a wait time, but the line moved much quicker than stated!
One of my favorites of the HM queue area, which I feel is one of the best themed attractions!
I enjoyed this as much as ever and always look for the “Hidden Mickey” plates during the ride. I had a quite bizarre experience this time on HM, as for some reason, about halfway into the ride, it shutdown and most of the lights were shut down (during the delay) and whatever location I was at, the same music loop kept playing over and over! (at least it wasn't IASW. Psychiatric ward committal, would have been mandatory! Not sure why this happened but took nearly five minutes for the ride to resume!
I usually take a photo of this on each trip, but never been on it. Doesn’t seem worth it, unless you’re on an actual river boat traveling on the Mississippi!
I did not have the chance for BTMRR this trip as the wait times were about 60+ minutes and I had a Fastpass+ for another attraction shortly. Just wish I had made a FP+ for this instead of Barnstormer. But, it was new and that's why I did that and had no idea how much demand there would be for this new attraction! Next trip will be different as well as my first experience on SDMT as it wasn't in operation yet!
My third and final Fastpass+ for the day. It started at 12:50, but I arrived at about 1:30 as I did some exploring prior. I knew I had plenty of time.
One of my favorite WDW attractions, no matter how corny the humor is during the cruise!
Our captain for the cruise, but don’t remember his name. He was good, but not spectacular as some have certainly been on prior experiences!
My Jungle Cruise in progress!
Love the look of this, before going into the cave!
One of my favorite aspects of The Jungle Cruise. Always a good time and better yet, getting out of the Florida heat for some time!
My final MK attraction for the day as it was a new one for me. Many times (in my travels to WDW) it wasn’t operating or the timing wasn’t good as a show was ongoing or something.
Quite a fun attraction even if a bit over the top with the singing tropical birds, but enjoyed it very much. Although, it seems to me once you see it, you don’t have to return.
Is any visit to the MK complete without this....I don’t think so! Pretty hot today and more so than forecasted. The lines at Aloha Island were quite long as always, but always worth the wait. Just love the Dole Whip Floats! Can’t you just taste it now?
It'probably a good idea on Disney’s part to relocate this up the road a bit in Adventureland as the lines are so long constantly and gets quite congested in this area if you’re just passing through....but why would you want to?
Well, it was getting quite warm out late in the afternoon (around 3 pm or so) and I decided to leave the Magic Kingdom for the day and return to Riverside and prepare for the trip home tomorrow.
At the bus depot in the MK. Not sure if I like these tandems!
It was a fairly short wait for a POR/FQ bus and I arrived back at the North Depot at around 3;45 pm. I still had well over three hours until by ADR for dinner, so I’d have some more free time late this afternoon. But before doing so I, packed for the trip home tomorrow, which didn’t take long. More organizing than anything else. The other business was calling Disney Resort Airline Check-In and pay my extra bag fees. It was $40 for the extra bag (my golf bag) on JetBlue. At least the first bag is free with them, unlike many of the other airlines! It was quite easy to do as you just give your flight info and receive a confirmation number from them. The next morning at Airline Check-In you supply them with the confirmation number and all is taken care of! Then, I can go on my way and have a great last day in “The Bubble.”
NEXT: Wish I Had More Time!

You accomplished quite a bit in MK. I agree with you on the Barnstormer. It seems like you get on, blink and it is over.
It was quite an active day and had a great time! As much as I love playing golf in WDW, I love the days when I can spend an entire day in the parks! Sometimes on golf days, when I can't get to the parks until mid-afternoon, I feel I'm trying to cram too much in with just a few hours time before my ADR!
I like Barnstormer, but over way too fast!
