As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Thanks for going to cheer on the runners! I did the half and it was so amazing to see so many people cheering and giving their support. I tried to look for you as I ran, but I couldn't remember if you were going to be by the TTC or by the contemporary, and of course I was so busy the days before the race I didn't get a chance to get on here and ask you where you'd be. So sorry I missed you but thanks for cheering!
And unfortunately our cell phone still wasn't working at this point, so I couldn't check in on any runners at any point. I felt really privileged to be there cheering people - it was an honour, as you guys were doing way more than I could ever do!
I'm sure you had a great time encouraging the runners! 45 minutes is a long time to just stand in one place.... For me, walking around is much, much easier than just standing! My three oldest use to run cross country and I always really enjoyed cheering on the runners (from all teams) as they run by!
That's me too - walking around is so much easier for my chronic fatigue, it's the standing that finishes me off.
I'll answer, if you don't mind! The 5K was run on Friday and the 10K the day before, Saturday. Both take place in and around Epcot. And it's at least 20,000 runners maybe more!
I was hoping someone would have all the details, as I couldn't remember them.

I have been away for a couple of days and wanted to check in and catch up on your TR, very neat that and we are in 2 of your updates! We had such a great time with you and Mark! I have to tell you that I was looking and looking for you guys when we were running by Contemporary, and when I spotted Mark's hat I was so happy!
I was so happy we saw each other, as I really did want to see someone I knew - and there were loads running, but without the cell phone, tracking anyone was just a joke!

I'm so with you - those prices were just crazy! I suspect a lot of people will be turning their cruises back in. A Cast Member friend of mine rang yesterday and said she'd keep an eye out for me next spring when the final payment is due, just to see how many people drop out and whether she can get a deal - she's just got an amazing deal for a Baltic cruise for this July....
A great start to the day and the two of you had a great vantage point to watch the runners. Love Mark's hat as it is so him! As someone said here, you can probably only take so much of the runners going by and especially being that close to them. I suppose watching a tennis match up close would do that to you as well with the constant head turning!
Hmmm... not something I've ever noticed at the times we've been to Wimbledon - and we've had front row seats.
So cool that you all could help support the runners! Standing still for that long does a number on my legs, knees, and feet, so I totally understand maxing out at 45 minutes.
Hi--My name is Sheila and I was the one with the cowbell! It's how DH and I cheer each other on during races. It's a holdover from when I was younger and ski-raced (slalom) competitively. Obnoxious, I know, but it's amazing how many runners smile, wave, and ask for "more cowbell!"
It was fun having a "fly-by" meeting with you two! Sorry I had to skedaddle off so quickly, but I was trying to get over to the GF to see him there and then back to mile 12 at Epcot before meeting him at the finish line. But it was really nice to have only my 2nd PP meet ever!

Funny with the cowbell as that would make me feel like I was in Switzerland as that is so common there! There is quite a celebration there at the end of the Summer, when the cows head back into town. It's a pretty festive gathering for many Swiss towns. Not sure of the date, but I've seen it through some of Rick Steves' programs.
