TR: Thingamabobs, Zebra & Giraffes, Oh My! Completed 3/25/15 - Page 32 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! That had to be scary for Emily. As a person who has gotten overheated and passed out and ended up in a wheelchair our last three days, I learned my lesson as well. Some of us learn the hard way! I am glad she turned out to be okay.
That was a scary moment for Emily and glad she is fine! Always important to stay hydrated in the parks which can get so hot and even more so in the AK!

OH my! How scary! Glad she recovered quickly. I'm also prone to not drinking enough water so I get it. It's something I struggle with. AK is so hot too, it kind of sneaks up on you! Love the hat!
Oh, what a scary time with Emily! So glad she was okay and I hope this was her lesson that she really does need to keep hydrated. Of course, it would happen when her parents, who are usually right by her side, were posing for a selfie with an adult beverage! The world conspires to make moments like these happen-- you couldn't script it!
Thanks - it was scary - and we still talk about how important it is!!!

I love your Scott's hat - he'd fit right in with us when we go and wear our hats. I'm not happy though your trip is coming to an end. I've enjoyed reading about it.
Thanks! It is so hard to pick our battles.

Thanks!

Thankfully all turned out well.
It's been a great trip. Thanks for coming back and sharing it with us.
Thanks!

If so, at least that's a silver lining to the whole thing....
Thanks! We still remind her all the time :roll eyes:

So I know how your stomachs drops with the are you the mom question!
Glad she seemed to bounce back after some water and AC!

We had returned to the resort to just relax for a bit – while Scott and Emily were laying down, I started gathering things up to pack (hate this part of vacation! ). Soon it was time to get ready and head to Epcot.
We were having dinner at Tutto Italia tonight – this was a first for us and we were looking forward to it, as we really enjoy Italian food.
We started off with the Calamari Fritti – it was delicious! Lightly battered, and cooked just right!
We also enjoyed the bread service! All 3 of us are such bread junkies! Scott and Em really enjoyed the olives as well.
For beverages I had the Sangria, while Scott enjoyed an Italian Martini. Emily had an Italian soda (with lots of water on the side!!! ).
For entrees I had the Risotto Zafferano E Gamberetti (Arborio rice, saffron, shrimp, tomato) – this was AMAZING!!! I can still imagine the taste of it!!! I am now addicted to risotto!
Emily had the simple Spaghetti and Meatballs (I think after today’s adventure, she was not feeling so adventurous any longer).
Scott had the Polenta Valsugana (traditional northern Italian creamy polenta with melted fontina, served with braised short ribs and meatballs). He very much enjoyed this!
The service was great – the food was great – we will definitely be back! Not to mention, we were too full to even attempt dessert – so we have to go back some day!
While we were eating, we discussed what our evening plans would be – we had been worried about Em, but she was definitely feeling much better now – and was like nothing had happened. She mentioned that we had not yet ridden Splash yet – and she would like to do so.
So we settled our bill and headed out – of course stopping for some of my own photos and some photopass photos along the way!
We hopped on the monorail, and then transferred at the TTC to the MK monorail, and soon we making our way to Splash Mountain!
Along the way (in Adventureland) Emily stopped dead in her tracks and I saw this thing flying towards us – and landed in the tree – it was an Owl!!! I managed to get a few photos of it! My mother loves owls – so I wanted to try to get a nice photo for her! I knew she would be super jealous!
It truly was an amazing sight!
We made our way to Splash Mountain and got in with little wait. I love to try to get photos along this ride (using my water proof camera of course) – but it sure is hard to get decent photos – especially at night!
We were pleasantly surprised that we did not get absolutely soaked ~ which is what usually happens to us! And yes, Scott has the backpack poncho (it came with the backpack, isn’t it cute?) on the backpack, blocking himself – the BRAT!
After Splash, we hopped over to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Emily loves to ride this after Splash – as she believes it is the best way to dry off quickly!
Next we wandered over to Fantasyland and took another ride on Barnstormer. Although this is meant to be a kid’s roller coaster, we all love it!
It was time for us to say good night (but not quite good-bye yet) to Magic Kingdom as we still had some more packing to do. So we headed back to the resort. I gathered as much as I could again, just basically organizing it, finished up some laundry, and took my last long soaking bath finishing up my bottle of wine!

A last great night in the "Most Happiest Place" and so glad you all had such a great time in Epcot! Your meal and drinks looked so good at TI for dinner and especially your pasta and shrimp combo as that's certainly up my alley as I love my food so much and especially Italian and seafood! There are many good Italian eateries in my area and I hope TI was as good as these. I've eaten at TI on a few occasions and has always been good, but a notch below of what I'm use to in the SW/CT and NYC area, but still very good!
After such a long day, I don't know how all of you had the energy to make it over to the MK to enjoy more fun! ...even with the convenience of the monorail!

Tutto Italia pics say I may have to reconsider this one as Lucille for some reason needs to have have her tomato sauce refilled regularly. Em may have the right idea where BTMMR is concerned after SM have to try it some time when temps are up in comfort zone
