TR: Thingamabobs, Zebra & Giraffes, Oh My! Completed 3/25/15 - Page 13 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like a fun 4th! Sorry DTD was crowded, but it sounds like you got some good retail therapy in. Love the Jedi Training Academy pics! And I have to say how happy I am that your Gaston in the B&TB show had actual mucles! I think the muscle suits they usually wear are beyond cheesy!

Take out lunch from Earl of Sandwich on your AKL balcony sounds perfect!
I think your photos of Beauty and the Beast are great! As are the pics of Great Movie Ride. Mine are always blurry in there!
Thanks! That lunch was perfect! GMR is very hard to get decent photos.

Thanks! I agree with those muscle shirts

Lisa Co-Guide to Sharing the Adventure: Disney World Trip Reports
After refreshing ourselves with our Frozen drinks we headed down towards the Streets of America, as we were on a mission to find Character Palooza! Lisa and family met back up with us at this point.
Now, there was confusion as to where Character Palooza would be if it happened due to all the newly added Frozen activities. Where we had known it to happen in the past was now the area to pick up Fastpass tickets for the Frozen Sing Along. And trying to get a CM to actually fess up to Character Palooza is like pulling teeth. So we wandered around the area a bit, I tried searching on some web sites – and lo and behold we gave up! No character palooza for us today! Which I was really bummed about as I really wanted Lisa and Bethany to experience it. Oh well – maybe next time.
So at this point, we were all getting hungry and we had some time before our next fastpasses, so we headed to Backlot Express, knowing that there would be something for everyone there.
Scott, Emily and I shared a cheeseburger, chicken nuggets and fries! One order of each to share was plenty for us! Scott had a Yuengling beer, I had a Diet Coke and Em had a Root Beer.
I was excited to receive another one of those 20% off coupons! And Lisa gave me theirs, and I found one on the ground! I was going to save some money!! (And I ended up giving a few away during the trip – spreading the pixie dust! )
After dinner, our fastpasses were ripe – we were ALL going to ride Toy Story Mania together!!! We were super excited – as this is so much more fun when you have a large group! And with it usually being just the 3 of us, someone always rides alone – not this time! This time, I rode with Lisa, Emily & Bethany were together, Scott rode with Matthew, and Paul & Chris rode together! We had so much fun – and I can’t even remember who won out of us – we were too busy laughing and making fun of each other!
We had one more fastpass together – for the Great Movie Ride – so we headed there next. This time, I just sat back and enjoyed the ride and didn’t take any photos! And yes, we had the Gangster side – which apparently Lisa and family had never had! Lol.
Now it was time for us to stake our spot for the fireworks! I knew where we wanted to be, and we had towels and shirts to spread out on – so we parked ourselves right in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard – with a few hundred other people!!! I believe we had the perfect spot though – we were in the center of the street – looking straight onto the stage, but far enough back that we could see all the fireworks! Everyone was around was very polite – and having a great time!
Of course, the kids were having a hard time sitting waiting patiently – so they headed over to Rock ‘n Roller Coaster – planning to ride single rider line, but they were all able to ride together!
They stopped and picked up popcorn and sodas on the way back……..for themselves. When they returned, I went to search for some adult beverages for us adults! So I headed over to Tune-in Lounge, and waited in line with MANY others doing the same thing! Paul didn’t want anything, as he was driving, and while I was in line I got to chatting with a small group of young adults, and they reminded me that you could only purchase 2 adult beverages per person – uh oh! I was thinking, well guess Scott will lose out then – BUT one of the nice young adults offered to come up with me and order so that I could get all 3 of our drinks! They even helped me carry all 3 drinks back to our spot as they were heading that way as well! I just love when everyone is nice and willing to help one another out!
We got some photos while we continued to wait – we were all really enjoying the music too!
Then it was finally time! Happy Birthday America!!! I love the fireworks show here – with the Rock n’ Roll music playing to the fireworks, and everyone sitting on blankets, etc. it makes you feel kind of at home!
You can see how crowded it was! But it was very manageable.
When the fireworks were over we all headed over to Rock n’ Roller Coaster to ride together (except Paul – he couldn’t ride), we were surprised the wait was not too long – maybe 20 minutes, if that? The park was clearing out – Epcot had magic hours and I am thinking maybe people were heading there? Or MK was open late also?
After our ride, we said good bye to Lisa and family – they were going to be heading home tomorrow (a day early due to Paul needing to get back to his regular doctor), so hugs all around!
They stopped for a Photopass photo on their way out!
We headed for Fantasmic! It was not nearly as crazy busy as it could have been for it being the 4th! We always enjoy this show – and one day, I will master getting decent photos of this!!! Practice, practice, practice!
After Fantasmic we were tired, so we started to head out – the park had really thinned out now – and we were able to stop for a Photopass photo before exiting.
Back to the resort for my nighttime soak in that beautiful tub!

You certainly had a great time in Studios from attractions to fireworks and AB's! Glad the twenty somethings were able to help you with the quantity of ABs! I guess the oldest of the siblings, couldn't help you with that The tall guy in the black shirt in the photos on this day. I guess, he's not old enough yet. Not sure of his age, but probably not 21 yet.

I never knew you could sit on the ground for fireworks at DHS! That does make it nice. What a difference it makes when those around you are friendly and helpful! You had good crowd karma that day.
