Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Glad you were able to get everyone's list finished! That would drive me crazy not having park hours yet!!!!

Very nice to be able to have your father house/pet sit while you are gone - we have my brother do it for us and it makes me relax so much more knowing someone is at the house

The lack of hours is driving me nuts! The hours are only out through the 8th of November right now and it really makes it hard to plan anything.

I love the lady that watches the house for us, but I do like that my dad is here all day with the animals. We are home all the time, so I'm sure it's hard on the animals when all of a sudden they are in their kennels most of the day, even though our house sitter comes often. Just makes it more relaxing knowing someone is home with them.

Ack!!!! No park hours would drive me crazy too, but it won't be long now. I went last year and I remember that both WOC and the DL fireworks were at 9pm...Am I wrong? Maybe... CA closed after WOC, and DL varied. I know Friday it was open till 12am.

Good luck with your touring plans. Echoing the others, I hope you get in all your must dos. I'm enjoying the lists for CA! I know MK like the back of my hand, but have only been to CA one time, and my Dsis did all the research and planning. I've never been on TSMM or the bakery tour, for example.

Keep em coming!

The lack of park hours is killing me and making it very difficult to plan anything for sure. I think in the slow season the parks close earlier, and therefore the fireworks and WoC can change too.

I know MK much better, but I have been to DL 3 times since 2008, so I am familiar with it as well. We have not done the bakery tour before either, but have done a lot of the other attractions.

Today's Update: Starting the Packing List

It's funny when I am planning a WDW trip, I start planning what to pack 4-6 months in advance. For this trip I don't have to plan much. This is for a couple reasons. First of all our last WDW trip included a nights stay in Albuquerque the night before our flight, a nights stay in AKL the night before our cruise, 4-nights on the cruise and 7-nights in WDW. That created a lot of baggage issues and being able to organize everything. Second, we are driving which means I don't have to worry about baggage limits, fees etc. other than what will fit in the trunk!

I do all the packing (with help from the kids) for the kids and I. I just give Pat a suitcase and he packs himself. Here are my packing lists for this trip. Oh and I break my packing list up by the bag that stuff needs to go in. This is usually more important when flying, but that is how my list is so I leave it that way.

My Purse
- Sunglasses
- Nook
- Passporter
- iPhone
- Battery Stick and cords
- Meds (Me and Kids)
- Advil
- Hand wipes/sanitizer
- Tissues
- Band-aids
- Lip balm

Toiletry Bag
Me
- Toothbrush head
- Toothpaste
- Dental floss
- Deodorant
- Hair brush
- Hair ties
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Hair oil
- Face products
- Q-tips
- Sunscreen
- Lotion
- Make-up (although I may just leave this at home, I don't wear makeup often)
- Razor
- Shave cream
Shana
- Toothbrush head
- Toothbrush handle
- Toothbrush charger/display unit (we use an electric toothbrush)
- Toothpaste
- Deodorant
- Hair brush
- Hot iron
- Feminine products
- Razor
Hunter
- Toothbrush head
- Toothpaste
- Deodorant
- Comb/brush

Bags 1 and/or 2
- Chargers (cell, nook, camera, nintendo, etc.) it is crazy how many cords we need!
- Batteries/battery charger
- Camera
- Autograph Vinylmation
- Laundry hamper
- Ziploc Bags
- Power strip
- Cross-Body Dooney
- Ponchos
- Pins/Lanyards
- Laundry detergent/dryer sheets
- Mouse ears
- Autograph books

Clothing for each person
- PJ's (2)
- Short sleeve shirts (8)
- Long sleeve shirts (1)
- Bras (only for the girls )
- Shorts/capris (4)
- Pants (2)
- Underwear (10)
- Socks (10)
- Hat
- Swimsuit
- Swim googles
- Swim cover up
- Swim shoes
- Noise canceling ear muffs (for the kids)
- Spare glasses (for me)

I will probably also plan to pack some food items for the road, as well as some breakfast, snacks and drinks for the room. We will have to stop at the grocery store near Disneyland, but I know our prices are much cheaper here, so I will get non-perishables from here and take them with us. Then we will only need milk and some fruits.

I don't think I'm going to actually start gathering stuff until a couple weeks before the trip. Since this is a fairly short trip it should be pretty easy for us to pack on the fly.

By bag works so much better for us, then I not only know what I need, but where it needs to go.

It works really well for flying. Since you have to keep liquids separate and I like to have at least some clothing in a carryon, just in case. For driving I could throw everything in the back of the car, but I still prefer to be organize.

I have a "master" list, which was modified with the cruise/Disney trip and it really made it so I shouldn't miss a thing.

Okay, this is just an extra bonus post for some thoughts. Thinking about packing, I am toying with the idea of not using suitcases. Since we are driving we are only limited by truck space, which is fairly plentiful in Pat's VW Passat. I'm actually debating whether taking 2-3 plastic tubs would work better than suitcases.

I always feel suitcases have a lot of wasted space and too many nooks and crannies to forget things in. If I had tubs, I could easily unload everything quickly in the room and the tubs also nest, making luggage storage less of an issue. We won't have to worry about hauling them around, we will pull up in the front of the Grand Californian and can loud them onto a luggage cart.

I could either have 1 large tub and stuff all of our clothing in it or have 4 smaller tubs that are the size for each persons clothing therefore making unpacking a breeze by handing each person their tub with their clothing to put away. I could also have a smaller tub just for the toiletries which would reduce the risk of spills, by keeping bottles upright.

So, thoughts?

Oh yes, for traveling by car, I think tubs make more sense unless you can't stack them neatly due to the shape of your trunk. There's no sense in having a suitcase unless you are really going to enjoy wheeling them or will use them to store stuff in the room as well.

I like the idea of tubs. The only issue for me would be that there are no wheels, so if your room location is far off it could be quite a hike!

We unpack our suitcases fully upon arrival and just shove them in a corner or closet. With the tubs I probably could get away with no laundry hamper as well and use the tubs as a hamper.

We always need a luggage cart to get everything to the room either way. With groceries and other stuff there's no way we could haul them without one, so that may be an non-issue.
