As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

What a lovely way to spend the evening. I must say your dinner looked not too good to me....I saw those bones and i was like ewwwww! LOL.
I can understand that. You certainly had to know what you were doing with fishes and bones to enjoy that dish...

Saturday 19 April – part one: what’s that error message on my camera?
We woke up stupidly early, bearing in mind this is a vacation… 6:00am! I blame a combination of the sun coming out and the geese/swans deciding that they weren’t happy about something outside. Maybe they weren’t keen on it being morning either?
So how did we sleep? Well, I think Mark slept better than me, but I have to say I struggled with the bed. One thing I quickly noticed as soon as we got into it was that if you’re much taller than either of us (we’re about 5’6”), you really seriously wouldn’t fit in this bed. Honestly, if I stretched out, my toes were touching the wall at the end of the bed!
I did say to Mark that they didn’t mention this anywhere on the website, so you’d have no way of knowing until it was too late. He said to me “I’m sure if someone turned up and they were 6’6”, they’d tell them that they needed a bigger boat.” This Jaws reference had me absolutely
At around 7:00am, I decided that I really needed to get up. Because Mark was sleeping on the side you had to get out of, that meant he had to get up too… I couldn’t lie there any longer, as I was struggling with my hayfever and needed to stand up or at least sit up, as I felt like I had so much muck in my throat. I got a Piriton inside me, and felt much better. Hayfever can be so miserable. I am so lucky though that I can pop a pill and it deals with the problem pretty much straightaway.
It was like swan city when I looked outside… wow, they must love this place!
I got going, and put the kettle on the gas cooker. I told Mark I was cold, and he told me to light another couple of the gas hobs. He’s much more practical than me. You see, you can’t run the heating without first turning the engine on, and we were reluctant to do so this early in the morning until someone else did.
Eventually, we heard one of our next door neighbours turn their engine on, and that was it, we turned ours on too, and got the heating going, which also meant we could have the power on – important for charging such vital things as laptops and cameras.
On that subject, I noticed last night that my camera was displaying what seemed to be a flashing error message. Not good. I had a look through the troubleshooting guide on the camera this morning, and found out that it was indeed an error, and it needed to be initialised, and put back to factory settings. Ok, so how do you do that then? Of course, the troubleshooting guide didn’t tell me that – that would be too simple, wouldn’t it?
Fortunately, with a few Google searches I managed to work it out, after trying and failing to find a reset button, and trying removing the battery for a minute and re-inserting it. All initialised, thankfully the error message was gone.
That problem solved, it was time for breakfast, and Mark heated up the hot cross buns we’d bought with us under the grill, and very nice they were too!
So much for worrying about waking up the next door neighbours. Just after 8:00am, the boat moored next to us set off! I guess they’re early risers, although in fairness, the £10 we had paid to stay here for the night was only good from 5:00pm to 9:00am, so I guess they didn’t want to pay anymore than that…
I wasn’t sure what the situation would be with hot water for washing this morning, but I was very pleasantly surprised when I turned the taps on. Within a moment or two, it was boiling hot, so much so it needed to be mixed with cold water.
Eventually, our neighbours the other side set off as well, which gave us a nice view both ways up and down the river…
We had this guy swim right up to us. I guess he’s maybe used to getting fed if he comes close to boats.
Unfortunately, it became apparent that the reset I’d done on the camera hadn’t done much good, as the error message was still coming up. I tried resetting it a couple more times, but still no joy. I guess I’ll have to find the warranty details when I get back, and get it sent off for repairs. Maybe heading towards 20,000 photos in a year is too much for it.
Just after 9:00am, we headed out for a wander around Wroxham. I wanted to visit Roy’s, which is apparently the world’s biggest village store. Wow, they weren’t kidding when they said that. Seriously, Roy’s owns Wroxham. I am not joking. Everywhere you look, it’s Roy’s….
Inside the main store, they’ve got just everything you could think of…
We browsed around, and I found a couple of golden wedding anniversary presents that will be perfect for Mark’s parents, as they celebrate that landmark next year.
We had a look in the garden centre.
Then we headed into the shopping centre, and everything in here is Roy’s… with the exception of the McDonald’s that’s in here.
Wow, I bet Fred Roy, who started this made a lot of money!

The small spaces on a boat do take some getting used to! (My husband was 6'4", and had a lot of adjusting to do on board!) Very convenient to have that "everything" store nearby. You are lucky that the piriton works so well and quickly for you. Lovely views to wake up to.
How neat to see swans so early in the morning, though hearing them didn't sound too fun! Roy's family must be rich as that is a lot of market property.

I must admit I thank my lucky stars every day whenever the hayfever starts and then I just take the Piriton. Only two needed so far today, but then again, it has been tipping down with rain all day!
sorry about the bed seing small. I thought I noticed that in the first pictures you posted. So di you have heat during the night when the motor was off? I bet in the summer is can be very noisy with neighbors all smacked up against each other and people up until the late hours so motors running all the time.

you can't leave it running all night, otherwise you'd drain the battery, so getting up in the morning was fun... it was pretty cold!

I can imagine that, although of course in the summer, hopefully you wouldn't need to have the heating on as much, so theoretically the motors wouldn't be running too late, but you can end up moored right up against each other...
Sure is a beautiful sight to wake up to, even if it is stupid o'clock.
Yeah, that bed would not work for us. Holy cow, that's tiny! I'm 5-10 and DH is 6-3. We couldn't even fold up neatly together in there! Glad it wasn't a problem for you guys though!
