Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Photopass and Memory Maker without Magic Bands

I will be one of the chaperones for my son's band. We are leaving in a little over a week and I am trying to decide if I should prepurchase Memory Maker. As I understand it, we will only have tickets and room "keys" and no Magic Bands since we are a large group and Disney is still working out the kinks.

Can I prepurchase Memory Maker and gather up photopass cards and then enter the code? My son and his friends will be off with another chaperone and I would like him to be able to get the ride photos and link them to my account. How do we do this under the new system?

If you don't have Magic Bands, you can use standard PhotoPass cards at any of the participating Memory Maker attractions and dining venues, and of course you can use standard PhotoPass cards with any PhotoPass photographer throughout WDW property.

Just remember to take a digital photo of any PhotoPass cards that you get, in case the card gets lost, so that you can still enter its number into your PhotoPass account and claim its pictures.

Do you know if we can do that for the attraction photos too? I would love to have the photos of him and his friends from the attractions.

I have a question about Photopass and Memory Maker. If this has been asked before then I am truly sorry but there is one thing (well a few things...) I am not understanding.

1. If you get the Photopass Card which site do you use? Do you use My Disney Experience site or the site that you normally use for Photopass?
2. If it is My Disney Experience; for logging in the Photopass card number how many days do I have to access the photos?
3. Since I never used Photopass+ (nor do I know what that is) is it my understanding the Memory Maker replaces Photopass+?
4. What really is the difference between Photopass and Memory Maker? All I can see is the price for Memory Maker at $199.

I think Memory Maker has replaced PhotoPass. If you buy Memory Maker in advance, it is $149. You need to buy it at least three days in advance. With Memory Maker you download your pictures where Photopass you received a CD.

1) PhotoPass is still MyDisneyPhotoPass.com, it hasn't been absorbed by MDX. But they built a link to the PhotoPass web site into MDX for convenience. You can get to the PhotoPass web site directly or through the link in MDX. The best new thing is that your PhotoPass account and your MDX account are linked, so you can now use your Magic Band to associate pics with your PhotoPass account. Those who don't have Magic Bands, of course, still use PhotoPass cards to associate their pics with their PhotoPass account, and every PP photographer still carries a supply of PP cards..

2) PhotoPass' policy was amended a few months ago; photos are now kept 45 days from the date they are snapped. Extensions of that time can be bought, for a fee. It used to be more complicated, but now it's simply 45 days from the date the pic is snapped.

3) Yes, Memory Maker is a fairly new product that replaced the older product PhotoPass+. Both products have two components - a special card that lets you add pics to your PhotoPass account from dining venues and attractions that are not included in a regular PhotoPass account, and a complete copy of your all of the pics in your PhotoPass account.

Personally, I am glad they changed this product, because the old product's name, "PhotoPass+ (Plus)" caused confusion, since it was so similar to the name of the overall photography system, "PhotoPass." Of course, many people misunderstand and think that the cards are "the Photo Pass" or refer to purchasing the PhotoPass PhotoCD product as "buying the PhotoPass", so there is still some confusion.

Likewise, since the Memory Maker product has replaced the PhotoPass+ product, many people misunderstand and think that the entire PhotoPass photography system has been replaced by a new system called Memory Maker. But Memory Maker is simply a new product which replaced the older PhotoPass+ product.

4) The main difference is that PP+ offered either a CD copy of your pics or a digital download, but Memory Maker only offers the digital download. Another difference is that the special dining and attraction pics that are not included with regular PhotoPass could only be added to PP+ by scanning the special card - which was awkward, because they only sent you ONE such card - but with Memory Maker, you add the card to your PhotoPass account ahead of time, and then all members of your party can scan pics at those special venues using their Magic Bands.

NOTE: If you use the link from your MyDisneyExperience account to pre-purchase the Memory Maker product, the price is discounted to $149.

I thought that I understood the Memory Makers, but after reading the threads today, I'm supper confused. Hoping to get some clarification.

1. When I clicked on the MM part of MDX to see if it said anything (our trip is in 48 days), there is a picture of where to find your MB number and a space for you to enter it. So, does each MB need to be entered or will entire party's MB be linked? (I was able to schedule all of FP+ selections.)

2. Can we still enter the old PhotoPass cards through our account. Our trip is in conjunction with dd/ds' class trip. If someone should shave a card, can I link it to my MM package?

Just returned from WDW

Ok, we just got back from our band trip to WDW. Honestly, I still don't think I have it sorted out!

Since we couldn't do anything with our magic bands except open our room doors, here is how it worked for me.

I prepurchased the Memory Maker and printed out the confirmation email. The day we arrived, we went to AK. There was a lot of confusion over where to go to pick up my card. I was sent two different places and on my way to a third when I stopped yet anohter cast member. He told me he would take care of it for me. (this was at customer service just inside the gates. I had just been sent away from there by another cast member, SMH!) Anyway, he got me my card. My daughter and I took photos and had them added to my card. My son texted me with the photo numbers when he got off rides and I had to go over there and physically hand them my card and collect the photos to the card. He didn't get any other photos on a photopass card. I am getting ready to download my photos this afternoon. Fingers crossed that they are all there!

2) Yes, you can. Any old-style PhotoPass cards entered into your account will add the pics associated with it to your PhotoPass account. Any pics in your PP account will be included in the Memory Maker download.

1) This one is more complicated, so bear with me.

Memory Maker is not linked to your Magic Bands. It's linked to your PhotoPass account.

Your PhotoPass account is linked to your My Disney Experience account.

Your Magic Bands are linked to your MDX account.

Any pics you scan with a Magic Band that is linked to your MDX account will be added to your PhotoPass account.

Any pics you scan with a PhotoPass card that is linked to your PhotoPass account will be added to your PhotoPass account.

Any pics in your PhotoPass account, whether they were scanned by a Magic Band or an old-style PhotoPass card, will be in your Memory Maker download.

< rant on >

Geez, PhotoPass was complicated enough on its own, but now they're throwing into the giant mixing bowl with MDX and Magic Bands and all the other tech they've added over the last year, and it's more confusing than ever. And look at YogaKitty's post - the WDW Cast is still befuddled about some of this stuff, too, like where to pick up your Memory Maker package if you order it Will-Call.

I'll be recommending that anybody who wants to by the Memory Maker product have it shipped to their home if at all possible!

Honestly, I don't even know why there has to be anything physical with Memory Maker - it's just a code from a card that you enter into your PhotoPass account, and the pics are all digital, and you don't need to scan the special card to get the exclusive pics, you can scan any Magic Band or PhotoPass card into your account, so why not just send the Memory Maker code in the confirmation email and forget all the running around?!

< rant off >

Okay, rant over. I hope my explanation was understandable for everybody!

Ok...it's official, I'm evermore confused than I was! Maybe it's something you just need to do to understand, not something you understand before you do it? When do we get the special card that will allow us to add ride and dinning photos?

When you buy the Memory Maker product, you have two options:
1) Have the special card delivered to you by mail
2) Will Call, which means you pick up the special card when you get to WDW

Option 2 is what was giving YogaKitty problems, because she had to go to three different places before she found the right place to get her Memory Maker card. That's why I'm going to recommend that you choose the mail option!

Are you not seeing any photos, or are you just not seeing the special ride and dining photos that are only included with the Memory Maker product?

And how are you trying to view your photos - are you trying to follow a link from My Disney Experience, or are you trying to go directly into your PhotoPass account at MyDisneyPhotoPass.com?

When you preorder the card you have the option of having it sent by mail or picking it up when you get there. I didn't have enough time for them to mail it to me before I left.
