As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Great day so far (maybe with the exception of the lost boy!). You earned that drink!!
Love Em's henna!
And my daughter is the same way - begging for all kinds of animals, both mammals & reptiles.
A great day at AK! I'm so glad you made it out to the vet window. Most of the CMs there do know me, but I meet a few new ones each time. Sorry you missed Lidia, but the two wonderful techs in the window were Laura and Diana, both of whom I've known for years now. The vet is Dr Natalie-- they call her "Nat" to differentiate her from another Dr Natalie! Dr Nat came as an intern a few years ago and was able to get a permanent position just last year. She's a great addition to the staff, as she's very good with the guest interaction. Often they'll get a new, very good vet, but he/she just isn't up to the challenge of having an audience all the time. They have to really enjoy talking to guests of all ages to fit in there.
It's so great when you get to the point where certain CMs remember you year after year. I've never been to Tusker House since it's been a character meal, but I really must do it, as the food looks amazing! I'm glad you happened upon that poor little boy. It's amazing he wasn't crying or anything--makes me think maybe he's been "lost" before, which is not a good thing.
You managed a full day's activity at AK, and still had time for a swim before dinner - that's how it's done! I continue to be surprised that the crowds were manageable.
You and Emily outdid yourselves with your new ears!
I love, love, love the animal print ears! I am so getting a pair in June. The problem will be which one to choose.
Great time at AK! Glad you were able to watch a procedure. I guess you have to head over there real early in order to catch one.

WOW - you got a lot accomplished!! Great pictures too I adore the one of the tiger with his tongue sticking out. I use to catch my cat Jax sleeping like that often - always made me giggle.
Glad the little boy was found - scary thought for such a little one playing by the pool!

Your day at Animal Kingdom sounded great, and a lot like ours. No surprise there. I agree the hot tube does wonders on the back and feet, no matter the hot temps outside it. Now I have fallen behind, so I need to go back and read.
Thanks! We love AK!

Thanks!!! See it's nice that you know so much about the vets!!! I am hoping we make it out there a few times in July, and maybe put a face to the name with Lydia! All the cm's are great there and so great with the kids!
You need to try TH! It is fantastic!
And yes, I thought that about the little boy as well, scary!!!

I hope that little boy was reunited with his parents - that must've been terrifying for him and his parents.
Thanks! We did do a lot, but it didn't feel rushed.

Thanks! Yes, that tiger reminded us of our Milo sleeping like that!

You all started with a beautiful day from that balcony. Your time at AK sounded like my kind of AK Day. Then relaxing by the pool at the heat of the day -- perfect. Thank goodness you all stop to help out with the little boy.
What a great morning at AK! I love the animal print ears! I always think about getting a pair of ears, but I'm afraid that after a while they'd give me a headache.
Lunch looked delicious! We've been to Tusker House for breakfast, but not lunch. Your TR is sure giving me lots of ideas for TS restaurants we have to put on our list!

Sorry to hijack, Lisa!
Donna, I have the giraffe ears and they DO give me a headache. I can only wear them for about 10 minutes.

Thanks - AK is such a great place!!! It was a perfect day!

Thanks - (and no problem Laurie ) - the ears work okay for me - I have a smaller head (wear a child size bike helmet ) so I do okay with them - but they do get a bit annoying after a while.
And you really should try TH for lunch!! It's almost as good as Boma........almost.......if only they had those zebra domes

After our relaxing afternoon and showers, it was time to head to Epcot. This was basically an “Emily” night – full of her requests – she had requested Coral Reef (this is one of her favorites!) for dinner and then Disney Quest later in the evening.
So we arrived at Epcot, and can you believe, we didn’t even stop for Photopass photos??? We just headed straight for Coral Reef, and got checked in requesting a table near the tank if possible. It was not long before we were seated right up against the tank!
Emily started with the Lobster bisque, and Scott and I shared the Field Greens salad. Then we only ordered 2 entrees, sharing them both between the 3 of us ~ we ordered the Grilled Mahi Mahi and a Swordfish special they had that evening. I of course, had my adult beverage – another mojito! Emily had one of the kids punches, she was collecting the light up things they put on the straws! Everything was delicious as usual.
I still feel kind of weird sitting there, enjoying a lovely seafood, fishy dinner, right next to that gigantic tank full of fish and sharks swimming by, eying what you have on your plate! Made me feel like I should order a steak or burger instead!
After dinner, Emily wanted to finish our “Fishy” evening theme with a ride on The Seas with Nemo and Friends!
The que area for this ride is so twisty and long…………..with hardly ever a wait!
Emily decided to swim her way through.........
Then, Scott and Emily decided to venture from the sea to outer space, and we wandered over to Mission Space, where we all took a flight to Mars on the green side (no way was I going to try the orange side with a full belly!). When we came off the green side, there was literally no wait for the orange side, so Scott went back through while Em and I waited.
After a quick stop in Guest Services to pick up my Disney Visa rewards card (got to love free $$$!), we headed out for Emily’s next request ~ Downtown Disney to go to Disney Quest.
Emily is holding up the world!
Now, let me say right here – I am NOT a fan of this place. It’s not just DQ – it’s arcades in general – they are always so loud with so many unattended kids just running around – and let’s face it – DQ is not a cheap visit. But with the deal that DVC had offered with the premium Annual Passes, I felt that I could give in and allow a visit to DQ, it was not costing us anything extra, and by going later in the evening, it was limiting our time there! We did not arrive until around 9:30 ~ and they closed at 11:00, so I knew I wouldn’t be here for hours!
Don’t get me wrong – I had fun – but Scott and Emily were in their glory with all the video games! They played the new Wreck It Ralph Fix it game for quite a while, as well as some others. We all did the Virtual Jungle Cruise, the pirate virtual game, and the big ping pong type game. Emily & I did the Astroblasters – that game is hard!!! All in all, it was a fun time, and for being a Friday night of a holiday weekend, it was not too busy!
We closed up Disney Quest and headed back to our room for a good night sleep!
Up Next: Another extra perk, with an extra guest is more fun!
