As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one

Ever on with each rising sun.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). Amazing, how many dumb Americans there are who travel to Europe! I've been to this great continent 8 times now, and witnessed many of them and some on my tours, but for the most part, they're pretty good! Although, I've yet to get one of them on my two Rick Steves' tours to Italy and France as that is a completely different clientele, who are much more experienced travelers and versed in Europe travel! These dumb Americans seem to multiply like cockroaches at times. Watch out for them...as they may be upon you!
I learned on my first trip to Europe about the floor listings in the hotels. It's not a big deal and something you get used to very quickly! Well, at least I did, but there are exceptions! Just look at the fllor listings on the elevator and see what is there. After that, it's pretty much common sense....at least for most!
Loved the photos in the morning in Montreux as I can't get enough of the waterfront. Amazing, how the mist of the morning coming over the lake! Just wow! Sad that you're leaving this great city as I need to visit hear one day! It's so much better than I thought! Another to my list in Schweiz! Glad to see more pics of your adopted boys!
Hopefully, on the return to England you can make another stop in Colmar as I'd love to if I were you and worth it! Whether, it's possible really doesn't matter as it's the beauty of Colmar!

I've been to this great continent 8 times now, and witnessed many of them and some on my tours, but for the most part, they're pretty good! Although, I've yet to get one of them on my two Rick Steves' tours to Italy and France as that is a completely different clientele, who are much more experienced travelers and versed in Europe travel! These dumb Americans seem to multiply like cockroaches at times. Watch out for them...as they may be upon you!
That's true about the Rick Steves' tours - I can imagine they are a very different clientele.

No return to Colmar, but still to come is Jungfraujoch, Interlaken, Lucerne, Lugano, Bellinzona, Bad Ragaz, Liechtenstein, Zurich, Baden, cow trekking, Germany, Luxembourg, and France on the way home. Trust me, this trip report still has a lot more life in it yet!
Tuesday 3 September – part two: it’s getting darker and darker
Soon we were coming into Bern, but this time we weren’t visiting, just passing through…
… and soon we were out of the other side, and seeing some of the towering mountains in front of them. We knew one must be the Jungfrau that we were heading for…
Word had got out and these guys were waiting to greet me:
We passed by Lake Thun. The last time we had come around it the other way, and as Mark said, I think it’s a prettier view from there.
We pulled over in a parking lot to get some shots:
We peeled off towards Lauterbrunnen, which was our destination this morning, seeing some of Wilderswil on the way, which is where we’d be spending the night…
We had to stop for this:
As we drove along, it got darker and darker until headlights started coming on. the weather wasn’t worsening, it was the effect of being dwarfed by the high mountains either side of us.
We soon reached Lauterbrunnen, which struck me as a traditional Swiss village…
We found the car park by the station, which was very convenient, as we were able to literally park there and walk over to the station two minutes away.
I’m so glad I got a photo of this, as the ticket machine took it when we left the car park
Next: I’ve never seen such self centred behaviour in my life
The little towns are so perfectly what you expect to see they almost look like movie sets. There's nothing like the amazement you feel as you approach the higher, snow-covered peaks!

I was going to say the same thing: that it looks like a movie set. Picture perfect! That close up of the mountain snow is crazy! The snow looks so fresh! I know it doesn't all melt on those super tall ones, but I wonder if it recently snowed on that one because it didn't look like old snow at all!

Hmmm.... I wouldn't have thought so, as we were there in early September, like literally this is 3 September, so it seems a bit early for that, but you never know.
OK, I haven't been commenting but I have been reading along.........the only way to describe Switzerland for me is breathtakingly magnificent! The architecture, the rolling fields, colorful flowers, majestic mountains, precious bovines plus you get chocolate and cheese (probably my 2 favorite foods)......don't think it could be any better.
