We Can Fly, We Can Fly, We Can Fly......We Flew Trip Report - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

How great that Abby tried some new things!!! It's always such a great moment when my oldest tries something that was always a "no way" before. I love the picture of Abby and Lenny!!!! Can't wait to hear more!!!!
I am truly shamed by how much the three of you achieved in a day. I think what you were doing in a day took us about 3 days. When we made rope drop we were back in the room exhausted by lunchtime. I was blaming the heat/humidity but maybe I'll blame jet lag. It certainly wasn't late nights as I think I only saw 10pm twice in 15 nights.
Wow, you certainly packed a lot into the day!
I have a question about enchanted tales with belle. You said the FP line was not open. Was that one of the ones you'd chosen ahead of time? Just wondering because we've got that as one of our FP+ choices for MK next week.
You sure did get a lot done! Glad you liked BoG. Abby has grown not only in looks, but also in other ways too. So glad she wanted to try something new. That is always fun.
I like the picture of Lenny and Abby, but my favorite is the one of Abby with the Prince. She is looking away shy...it is so cute!
You know I heard if you wanted to get into BOG to get in line early, if you don't have any ressie and you can still get in. Is that true, Darlene? I would like to try the Roast Beef sandwich that sounds great!!
It looks like you had a great day at MK. Looking forward to exploring Fantasyland. Thanks again for the tour!!!! Sorry to read Lenny knee started bothering him. It's hard to enjoy anything when you are in pain!
Wow! I'm tired just reading about your day. You certainly covered lots of ground. I love all of your pictures as usual, but the one of Abby with Lenny is awesome. I hope the next time I get back to WDW that the train ride is open. I do love the new Fantasyland and especially the Under the Sea ride.
Looking forward to the next installment.
Thanks Olive. I'm glad you like the pictures again and sorry I made you tired . Abby has already made comments that we have to go back next year for the mine train. As much as I wish I could tell her yes, I know it won't be happening at least for a few years. Oh well. It hasn't stopped us from talking about "the next time" though

Lenny was in a much better mood. Friday - our arrival day - was the worst day for him. I too like the fact Abby was willing to try something new. Of course with her, she could be looking forward to the day she can really drive - which is coming up far too quickly (3 years, but the first 13 are gone already )

Thanks Laurie, we did have a lot of fun. Thankfully Lenny did have a good time but once he actually admitted his knee hurt him that much (sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't) it made it easier for me to make it easy on him, KWIM?

Day two at SW was great - it was short (only 6 hours compared to the almost 10 of the day before) but we did what we wanted and were happy with it. I don't know about packing alot in. I just asked Abby and Lenny if that seemed like a lot and they agreed - to us it doesn't seem like we got that much done. I don't know, I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder.

We went to 1900 PF as well, our Cinderella was...well she should have been a step-sister, very catty for Cinderella but as always we loved the interaction with Lady Tremaine and the Step-Sisters.
Glad Abby enjoyed the parade....I am sure everyone was ready to hit the pillow with such a fun and busy day.
We were ready to hit the pillow every night on vacation - but who isn't when at Disney? We liked being able to get the ride photos too but we didn't get as many as I wanted. You'll see why as the TR goes on. I'm sorry you didn't have the best Cinderella when at 1900 PF. Lenny and I commented on more than one occasion this trip that alot of the "face" characters seemed awful younng/green for whom they represented.

Yes, Abby does seem to like her independance - when it suits her. Riding by herself suits her. Doing chores at home doesn't suit her and she tries to ask for help. Unfortunately for her it doesn't work

While I would have preferred Lenny's sandwich, we did enjoy the overall experience at BoG and even thought of returning later in the week. That never did happen though. I'll be updating again tonight so stay tuned.

From your post in another thread, you mentioned how you like to have resort time. We don't really do the resort so in a way, it's a trade off. We do lots in the park and next to nothing at the resort while you probably know your resort in and out which leaves things undone at the parks. It's all in what you like to do - we're not resort people at this time so we don't spend a lot of time there.

Thanks. I'm glad you're still enjoying my TR's. I'll post more in a bit so check back frequently as my TR seems to be getting posted quickly this year.

We didn't take part in the FP+ testing - we had a GAC that depending upon the attraction will send us through the FP line. For us, it could have been it wasn't open due to being so early in the morning (it was around 9:30 or so when we got there). I'm sure if you're part of the testing and Belle was included as a choice, the line will be open at that time for you.

We all liked exploring the new Fantasyland, but as you probably remember from previous TR's, that's where we typically spent a lot of our time anyway, even before the new parts.

Abby has grown up in a lot of ways. Other ways she's still a little kid so I never actually know what "kid" is going to come out - the grown up one or the one that still likes Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Sometimes I like when the little kid comes out - especially at Disney - it makes it easier for me to be a little kid too.

If you're talking about ADR's, I'm not really sure as those are only needed for dinner. Lunch is a CS option so all you have to do is get in line like you would at Cosmic Ray's or any other CS location (except this line extends outside as it's so popular). It might take a few minutes to get inside but if you're in line, you should be able to get in for lunch.
As for Lenny, yeah, I felt bad about his knee. I never expected it to act up like it did but we tried to make sure it didn't get any worse by getting him wheelchairs when he couldn't use the scooter or keeping his walking to a minimum.
Tuesday morning, I was up at 5 again to do laundry and dishes . Lenny was up at 6 and Abby at 6:30. Today we were starting the day with breakfast at Norway and I kept telling Lenny to hurry up, we needed to get to Epcot. He got ready but made the comment "I want to look my best for the Princesses. You never know, they may want to make you jealous." My answer to that was "they’re welcome to have you." We made it to Epcot in time but when we went to go through the turnstiles, the CM couldn’t find our name on his list. He asked if I was sure we had an ADR that day and I said yes, I was positive we had an ADR that day. It turns out I was half right. For some reason, I kept telling Lenny and Abby our ADR was at 8:30. It turns out our meal was at 8:15 oops. We were still there in time for it but I don’t know why I had it in my mind about 8:30. With it being earlier than I thought, it simply meant we couldn’t stop for any photopass pictures first.
We got to Akershus, checked in, had our picture taken with Belle, then shown to our table. Lenny did complain to me that the table could have been closer to the buffet because I has asked for wheelchair seating but I told him most everything got delivered to the table and if I saw anything on the buffet he wanted, I would get it for him. He had no other comments to make and we enjoyed the meal . This was our first time eating breakfast here but I would certainly repeat it. Everything was good and filling and there was quite a variety on the cold buffet - meats, cheeses, fish, fruit, pastries, etc. If you walk away hungry from this meal, you certainly have no one to blame but yourself. During the meal, we saw Aurora, Snow White, Cinderella and Ariel. I know some people have never seen Ariel here but we seem to be lucky, every time we’ve eaten here, we have. The characters were good as always and it was really a good way to start our day. We finished up and were leaving there about 9:05, which was nice. I hadn’t expected to be out of there until almost 10 so we had an "extra" hour to play that morning.
This chair was supposedly in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. Truth or fiction, I don’t really know
ToT in Morocco? It certainly looks that way.
We started Future World with the new TT. In the past, we weren’t thrilled with the ride but this time, we did actually like it.
The new themeing was much better according to LennyIt went much faster inside than it had before and it certainly wasn’t as jerky with starts and stops. Partway through, Lenny noticed there were screens that compared our design vehicle to the one designed by the people in the seats behind us. Sometimes their car came out ahead for performance, other times it was ours. I didn’t dare take out my camera for any of this so I don’t have any pictures other than the one Disney took. On the way out, we took a couple of photos and Lenny drooled over all the cars.
He even commented for one he wanted to ask the CM to pop the hood. He refrained and we hit the gift shop where we got the new pennies and a new penny book (our first one was already filled).
It was strange seeing this with no water in it. Later in the week it did have water again.
Nemo and Friends was our next destination after hitting both Innoventions for new pennies and where the line at TT was huge (I didn’t notice the time), the line here was nonexistent. It was literally a walk on. I didn’t lose anything this time around riding it. Then we went to Turtle Talk with Crush.
The details in the ligths while waiting for Crush
Abby kept thinking of what she would ask him if she was picked and she decided on "how has being a movie star changed you." She even told the CM about it who thought it was a good question. We went in, the theater filled up and the show started. When it got to the kids asking questions, Abby did actually get picked to ask her question, only she didn’t ask it. She asked instead "how old are you?" I kind of had to shake my head as she did have a good question but she must have lost her nerve at the last minute. It’s okay though as she got picked. That alone is something special, not the question that got asked. As we walked out, we jokingly gave Abby a hard time for her question. Instead of sticking around to explore more of the pavilion though, Abby wanted to head to the Land instead.
According to my pictures, we did check out Bruce after Crush but nothing else.
We went downstairs and rode Living with the Land first and it was good. I go between liking this ride and not liking this ride and I don’t know why. This year, I liked the ride and took a few pictures.
After seeing how food grows in the Land, we went to ride Soarin’. We still really enjoy this ride but this time, Lenny looked down for some reason and made a comment along the lines of "wow, we’re really up here, aren’t we." I told him to shut up, I didn’t want to hear it . I have problems with heights but I feel safe on Soarin’ so I don’t think of the height aspect. If it gets put in my head how high I actually am, then that would ruin the ride for me and I don’t want that to happen. Once we "landed" we were actually hungry for lunch so we tried Sunshine Seasons (new to us). We all got the rotisseries chicken and we were all able to finish them. I’m thinking it’s because at Epcot, you basically spend all day inside in AC. When you’re out in the heat, that’s when you don’t get hungry (at least we don’t).
We finished off Future World with Imagination and the gift store.
I have to say, I was very disappointed in the lack of Figment merchandise - there was very little of it to be found - and nothing of interest to us. It was still hot out so after leaving Imagination, we left Epcot and went to BB. The park was open and letting people in but the parking lot was packed. Luckily we had planned on Lenny using the scooter because there were no handicapped spots open for him to be closer to the entrance. It took a while to finally find a spot and by the time we parked, got the scooter assembled and were over by the entrance, I noticed a handicapped spot had finally opened. Since my feet were starting to bother me so early in the trip, I didn’t look forward to walking the distance back to the car at the end of the day so I made Abby and Lenny stay in the spot that opened up and I went and got the car then. After I parked in the new spot, we headed into BB where we stopped for you guessed it, a couple of pennies. Lenny wore his swim trunks that day for shorts so he waited while Abby and I changed and it wasn’t long before we were finally in the water .
We started with the lazy river and this year, instead of only having tubes, there were also square noodles available for use. Lenny grabbed one of those and enjoyed it while Abby and I switched back and fourth from tubes to noodles. It was fun and we went around twice.
Ignore the dates in the corners - Lenny didn't realize it was on September, not August
On our second time, I noticed a lady with a photopass card and I asked her where she got it. She pointed behind her and said he’s back there. I turned around and coming up behind us, in his own tube, was a photopass photographer. He took a couple of photos of me and Abby, then included Lenny when he finally caught up to us (I’m not sure how he fell behind). When we made it back to the scooter, we decided to get out of the river for a while and go to the wave pool.
When we got there, there were no waves going so it was nice to go in, but then the waves started. I don’t know if my memory is faulty of if they changed it but I don’t remember the waves being that rough. They were nothing like TL obviously but they were rougher then I remember them being. I made my way out to where it was shallow and a couple of minutes later Lenny and Abby followed. As soon I stood up though to go to our next thing, I saw Abby start to run back into the wave pool. I stopped her and asked her what she was doing. She told me going back in the wave pool and I told her no she wasn’t , not without me or her father. Abby was not happy about that at all but I’m her mother and in that instance, I told her no and there was no negotiation about it. Abby got over it somewhat quickly though and said she wanted to do Teamboat Springs (the family raft ride) . With Lenny’s knee acting up so much, we took the ski lift up to the top of the Mount Gushmore (him and Abby in the wheelchair gondola, me following behind). Once we got up there, I pointed out the lines for the slides Abby said she wanted to do and I forget what she said but I think she said she’d think about doing them. We went on the family raft ride - which actually had no line at all - and when we were done, we had more pictures taken. In the past, it was cute when they had us hold 3 tubes to make a Mickey head but I liked this years set up much better. From there, we took our time getting back to Lenny’s scooter. For him, it was a haul but he leaned on me and sat when he needed.
One of the times he sat, it was near one of the food vendors and since we’ve been hearing so much about things in pretzels (hot dogs, hamburgers, etc), I decided to get a couple of pretzel dogs with cheese and a refillable mug. All I can say is we enjoyed the mug more than the pretzel dogs. Mine was awful salty and all the cheese was down at one end. We wouldn’t get them again as we just didn’t enjoy it. We finally got back to Lenny’s scooter and when I asked Abby if she wanted to go back up to do the slides, she said no, she wanted to do the lazy river again. I was good with that but I did give her one more opportunity to say yes as I was willing to do the slides with her. She again said she didn’t want the slides, she wanted the lazy river so that’s where we went. We went around two more times, got some more pictures, a couple with the magic shot of Sebastian, and then called it quits. I was so tired I was starting to nod off in the middle of the river and the only thing waking me up was when we feet dropped and hit the bottom (I was in the tube, not on the tube). We were even too tired to change back into our clothes so Abby and I walked out of the park wrapped in our towels. We did put them down long enough for one last Photopass Picture though.
It’s not Photopass but it was too cute to pass up
On the way back to ASMu, we discussed what we wanted for dinner and we decided to give AS Movies a try. By that time, I had gotten my second wind so we changed and then went next door (in our building, we were very close to AS Movies).
Lenny and I got the carved London Broil with mashed potatoes and Abby got the adult baked chicken. Dinner was good and it disappared. The one thing we didn’t like about the food court is how bright it is. There were lights everywhere - the regular lights for the food court, marquee lights above each station, those same marquee lights reflecting back at us from the windows. What was reflected in the windows was doubled though so we were surrounded by lights. I can’t explain it right but Lenny said "say it reflected like a prism" That still doesn’t explain it IMO but hopefully someone will get it. I don’t mind the food courts being big or loud, but I do have a problem when they’re bright like that . I like to relax while I eat and you can’t do it when it’s that bright . At this food court, we once again used our mugs and didn’t have any problems with them. If we did, it would have been the same problem we had all week at AS Music - the ice and the orange soda running out. After dinner we went back to our rooms and I think we watched TV. I don’t have anything written down other than being in bed early at 10:30 so whatever we did, it wasn’t noteworthy.
