Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 29 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

To start off I would like to say...I love that you split up so Abby could enjoy her cinnamon bun, while Kaeli got to have a treat herself without having to sit and watch Abby eat that yummo snack. Great plan!
Now, that tour sounds like a lot of fun for the kids, and the adults if you join in. I didn't know about that tour at all before.
Abby is my kind of gal, love me some corn dogs or nuggets, which ever is available. Love Kaeli's eyes looking at that hot dog! She has the most expresive big eyes.
Love the pic of the girls in front of the castle (though not as much as the one I said you should blow up and frame).
That SM picture...OMG! That is hilarious and she does look like the Grim Reaper!
I also love the pic of the fountain you took on something...it has a little rainbow in it and the one of the balloons.
Wonderful photopass pix, and the one you took of the wind-blown balloons is great!
Oh, Darth Vader, that's a good one too!
I felt bad for the girl selling the balloons, she was a tiny bit of a thing, and she was struggling to hold on to them in all that wind!

Watching the girls have so much fun that night definitely made up for how lousy I was feeling

Thanks! The one with the rainbow is my favorite, and I was surprised to see how well it came out when we got home. I actually took that one with my phone!

Oh yeah, it's a blackmail worthy photo for sure
I love my popcorn bucket, of course I have a different one from the year before too!

Those corn dogs were good, I might or might not have stolen one or two from Abby while she wasn't looking

Can't wait to hear more!
Even though Kaeli is mostly good and understanding about food she can't have, still I try to not let Abby have too many things in front of her, it's just not fair and I don't want to make her feel bad. I thought it was a great plan to split up too, until I saw the treat that Daddy got her ... cotton candy, at 9:30 am He's such a sucker for those girls
The tour is a lot of fun, you should try it with your family someday! It's offered every day at 10 am, and it's not too expensive. If you have a Disney Visa there is a discount available too
We love corn dogs here too, Abby could eat them everyday!
thanks for the tip about the Garden grill I would have spent the entire meal staring at my plate to avoid the motion sickness. Love the review of the Family fun tour. I was thinking about doing that with Evan on my next trip. I think he will really like it and is the target age for it.
Love the picture with the dark sweatshirt over her head. Made me lol this morning. Everything looks like you guys had a great time. Sorry to hear about the motion sickness during dinner. That would of been the pits!

Evan is the perfect age for Family Magic, I think he would love it!!

It was pretty awful, but I was able to muddle through and at least watch the girls enjoy themselves that night!
We headed out of the MK and hopped on the monorail over to the TTC to catch a bus for DHS, along with everyone else who had the same idea. When we got there, the line at the DHS stop was crazy long and we had to wait quite a bit for a bus to show up. Thinking about it now, we probably should have just walked over to the Contemporary to get a bus to DHS, I wish I had thought of it then! Anyway, a bus did finally show up and luckily we did get on, even though it was standing room only.
When we arrived at DHS, we noticed the tree was put up since our last visit, so we stopped for some photopass pics in front.
And, then a few more once inside the park
After our little photo session, we headed straight to the Animation Academy since we weren’t able to do it last time. Kaeli was really looking forward to it, so I hoped that we would make it in for a class this time around. As luck would have it, the corral was open and we made it in with plenty of room for the next show. The couches were all full though, so we had to stand in the center to wait for the doors to open. As time went by, I started to feel strange, suddenly feeling a bit dizzy and very hot. At one point I thought I might pass out , but that feeling quickly passed. I also started to feel a bit nauseous, and that I might have a sudden need for a restroom, so I excused myself from the line. I told Chris that I was not feeling well, but for him to stay and go into the show with the girls. He wanted to leave the line with me, but I assured him that I would be fine and that I would just meet them outside the exit when they were done. I headed outside and got myself a bottle of water and found a quiet place to sit. Thankfully, the water and rest helped and I started to feel a little better, though the nausea was lingering. Chris had texted me that they were finishing up the class, so I headed over to the exit to meet them. The girls were so excited they got to do the AA, it is definitely a favorite of theirs! I didn’t take any pics of their drawings, but if I remember correctly, they drew Piglet and both did a great job!
Chris and the girls were hungry, so we decided to head over to Pizza Planet to find some dinner. I thought that we’d be able to walk around the back area of the Streets of America to get where we needed to go, but because the lights would be turning on soon, they had all of the side streets and alleys blocked off, forcing the flow of traffic to be coming in where we wanted to go out. Instead of fighting the crowds, we decided to just stay put and watch the lights being turned on, and I’m glad we did. It was a cute ceremony which was led by Santa Goofy, and a family that was chosen to flip the switch and start the lights for the evening. After that, we made our way through the crowd and off to Pizza Planet we went. I still was not feeling too great, so I did not eat, but everyone else enjoyed their pizza.
As we were leaving, we ran into Dawn and her family as they were going into the Muppet 3D show and chatted for a bit. We had thought we might be able to meet up at the lights later that night, but they would not be heading over until after park close. Sadly, because I still wasn’t feeling well, we’d probably be gone by then. We said our goodbyes, and off we went to get a better look at the lights.
The first thing the girls noticed was that the sign at the back of the street was not working, some of the letters were not lit up like they should be. Instead of saying Merry Christmas, the ry in merry was unlit so that it said Mer’ Christmas.
We had fun finding lots of Hidden Mickeys, but I never did find that darned purple cat!
Ha ha, it looks like that guy is wearing a party hat!
Here’s a video I took of the lights “dancing”
At some point, my friend Chris texted me to let me know they were watching the lights, and somehow we were able to find each other in the sea of people. We took our time just enjoying the lights before deciding to head out of the park shortly before 8 pm.
When we made it to the bus stop, there was a huge line for POR, but the queue for POFQ had only a few people waiting. We decided to take the bus to POFQ and then walk back to POR, it would probably be quicker than waiting in that huge line. Well, since we were already there, of course we had to go to the food court to get one last order of beignets. While we were waiting for them, Chris ran into one of his training sargeants who was here with her family. They chatted for a bit, and soon we were enjoying our hot and fresh beignets.
Afterwards, we strolled back to POR and said our goodbyes, not knowing if we'd see each other again before leaving for our flights home tomorrow. We spent some time packing up our things, but it wasn't long before we were all in bed sound asleep.
So sorry about the dizziness and nausea. I hope when you woke up the next morning all was well again! Your photos of the lights are wonderful. My favorite shot from this post, though, is the one of Kaeli with her hands over Duffy's eyes as you and Chris are kissing!
I'm sorry to hear you were sick. At least it was at the end of your trip. Not good feeling sick when you have to travel though! Love the lights! Fun night at DHS. Cute Mickey Santa cup too!
