Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 23 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm amazed you all were able to keep chugging along. That was a long day! Worth it to stay, though, for the sneak peak you got into the new areas!
It was a long day, Laurie! Well worth it though, and you'll see in my next update that we'll get a bit of a rest the following day

Whoa - amazed the girls could keep going, but it looks like it was worth it!
I was just as surprised that the girls could keep going, no whining or complaining about being tired at all It was well worth it, we had a fantastic time that night!

Sneaky girls We were all thankful for Chris working some magic so we could get a little peek inside new FL!
Just a little backstory here, our original package promotion included 1 day water park tickets for each of us, but of course we lost those when I switched over to get free dining. The girls were looking forward to hitting a water park, so I ended up adding the Water Park and More option to our tickets when I booked the new package because it wasn't much more to do so when you were also adding the parkhopper option. Well, today was the day we planned on heading to Blizzard Beach, and everyone was really looking forward to it.
I should also note here that for the past several days the weather was quite warm, with highs in the low 80s daily. Today, there was going to be a drop in the temps, with highs only being in the low 70s. Definitely not my idea of swimming weather , but we decided to give the water park a go anyway since the girls were really looking forward to it.
We slept in until 8:30 or so, grabbed some breakfast and changed into our suits, before heading out to the bus stop shortly before 10. We waited, and waited, and waited some more, but not one bus for BB had gone by. Finally, when another park bus pulled up, Chris went and spoke to the driver only to find out that BB was closed today because of the weather. Certainly not what I was expecting and we were all a little disappointed, but what can you do? We headed back to the room to decide on a game plan, we figured we’d use this day to just relax and enjoy some time at POR and maybe stroll over to explore POFQ.
First up was a stop at the Fishing Hole. I had done a little research about this at home, and several websites claimed that they used hot dogs for bait here (which I thought was odd), but that is not the case at all. They do use live worms, and I was surprised to see this sign when we walked up to the rental window.
At first I thought to myself, great, another strike out for today. But, we let the CM know about Kaeli’s allergy and he was able to give us worms that did not have peanut shells in them. He did warn us though, that the rental poles could have traces of peanut on them, since others using them before may have had peanut shells on their hands from handling the bait. I always have Clorox wipes with me, so I just wiped down our poles and gave Kaeli strict instructions to not touch her face with her hands while we were fishing.
We spent about a half an hour fishing, with not one single bite! Not even a little nibble. There were some others fishing as well, and I don’t think any of them caught anything either. Oh well, it was an experience, and the girls had fun, so I guess that’s all that matters. We finished up and set off to return our poles, making sure that Kaeli washed her hands thoroughly in the sinks they had on the dock before we left.
We took our time, just strolling the pathways around the resort, eventually ending up near the Marina. The girls had seen others riding the Surry bikes and wanted to try it out, so we decided to give one a try. Oh my gosh, what hard work it is to pedal those things!! We enjoyed it, but after two laps around the river, Chris and I sure were pooped!
We had all worked up a big appetite by now , so we decided to head over to Riverside Mill for some lunch after returning the bike. The girls, however, wanted to make a pitstop in the arcade first. We were about to buy a game card for the girls to use, but luckily a woman let us know that all of the games were set on “free play” right now
We probably got a good half hour in on the games before they switched off of free play, which was perfect for the girls. After that, we crossed through the lobby and grabbed some lunch at RM. Everything was delicious again, and the girls enjoyed the tv and kids seating area when the were done eating. They were so enthralled with the coloring pages, it was hard to drag them away.
We decided to head over and check out POFQ, and as we were leaving Riverside Mill we heard a strange sound and then the lights went out. Abby was quite worried, looked at me and said, “I thought you said the power doesn’t go out in Disney, Mommy??” The whole week leading up to our trip at home in our cold and dark, powerless house, I had been telling them that the power was not out in Disney, and not to worry, we’d be fine once we got there.
We hopped on the boat over to POFQ, still not sure what had caused the power to go out, and whether or not it was just the main building that was out, or the whole resort.
When we entered the pool area at POFQ, the girls wanted to try out the slide (which was a little creepy to me ), but the lifeguards were clearing guests out of the pool. Apparently the power outage was more widespread than we thought, the entire resort (both POR and POFQ) was affected by it.

Well that stinks the water park was closed due to weather. Sounds like a nice stroll aournd the resort well until the power went out!! Hope it did not last long!

That's weird about the power outage. Too bad BB was closed! My boys had fun drowning worms at the fishing hole too. They may not have caught anything but good memories!
Arnaud and I took a weekend cruise on Norwegian once and at the private island a woman was taking hot dogs from the buffet into the water and feeding the fish, I thought it was gross but sure enough fish were everywhere!!!!
The fishing did look fun, plus I think spending days around the resort are always cool. I do love POR and when we walked around FQ too I loved that as well.
Well it sounds like you guys made the best of the day with BB being closed!
Except the power outage! That had to be scary for the girls after what they just went thru back home........hope it doesn't last long.
