Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 14 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

How cool that both girls went on SM and both loved it. Evan rides "The Flitzer" in Wildwood and loves it. I tell him it is just like Space Mountain but he keeps telling me he is NEVER riding that. Too bad as I measured him this week and he is 44 3/4 inches. Again I told him big enough for SM but got same response. Gotta keep working on him...
Weird comment from that lady. I have to agree with you. If the kids want to bring some thing into the park, they should carry it. If they don't want to carry it then it isn't that important. No problem teaching them about a little hard work.
Great pics of MK! Wow, you got so much done this morning!
Thanks! We got so much done this morning, and there is still A LOT more to come

And that lady............seriously........buzz off the nerve of people!!! maybe she was jealous you had such well behaved kids!
how cool that a photopass photographer was there to capture those moments!!! Love when those kind of things happen!
I wish that they had more PP photographers at random spots in the parks, not just at the typical landmarks. Don't get me wrong, I like the posed shots we get in front of the castle, but sometimes those candid shots just showing the fun we are having are the best

It was a beautiful day, we really lucked out weather wise on this trip. I'm glad your daughter loved SM too

I was so glad that PP guy sought me out, we were getting ready to leave the area and I never saw him. I'm so glad I have those pictures now.

Ha! I wish I would have thought of telling her there were rocks in Abby's pack, I wonder what she would have said to that! Chris was not too happy with some of our early mornings, but after seeing how light crowds are so early he didn't complain again

So glad Abby went on SM, and love the pic of her after at the sign.
I love that picture too, she was so proud of herself for riding

- I love Chef Mickey's, though I've never tried it for dinner. Next time I will.
- $500 in Jet Blue credits! I see a trip in the future.
- Great Passporter meet! I'd love to meet some of my passporter friends someday.
- Kaeli's reaction to TOT was just like my son's. I think he was numb or in shock throughout the whole ride.
- Sorry your meal at MM was less than stellar. The same thing happened to me at 50's PTC.
- You had a great spot for MSEP. I've always watched from the hub. I may have to consider your spot in the future.
- Great meal at CRT! I guess I'll never get to eat at the castle since my boys refuse to go near any princess.
- How rude of that woman at the gift shop!
- It's been years since I've done Swiss Family Treehouse. We skipped it in june because my husband can't do that much climbing.
- Glad Abby decided to go on Space Mountain. Love the ride photo.
Ok, I'm glad I wasn't that far behind. Now to catch up on the rest of the trip reports.
Mayra! I'm glad to see you back I was just thinking the other day that I hadn't seen much of you here or on Facebook, and I was hoping that everything was ok with you!

Oh, they would ride those big rides over and over again if I let them! I just can't do that anymore

I don't know how I did 3 times in a row on BTMRR, usually twice is my limit! I hope you get to CHH next time, it's so good!

More please!!
Keep working on him! The girls love the Flitzer too, though we ride the one at Point Pleasant I think the fear of SM has everything to do with it being in the dark, I'm sure once you talk him into it, Evan will love it!
I really didn't understand that woman and her comment, I see nothing wrong with Abby carrying a bag in the park!

I was glad to get on CoP too, my family not so much
I'm fine but my laptop is not. It died suddenly at the beginning of december. I'm posting from a tablet, which I don't like at all. I'd been away from the boards for over a month. It seemed like a lifetime to me.

Lunch at CHH was good as always, sorry no food pics though! We backtracked over to Tomorrowland to use our FPs for Buzz, and I suggested that afterwards we head back to the pool at POR for a little while before returning to the MK for our dinner tonight at Crystal Palace. I was outvoted 3 – 1 though, I just hoped that not taking a break wouldn’t come back to haunt us later.
We wandered over to Frontierland, hoping that Splash would be back up and running now, but the girls got sidetracked when they saw Tiana out for a meet. I got in line with them while Chris went to grab us some FPs for Splash.
After our time with Tiana, we went off to meet up with Chris and I realized that the afternoon parade would be starting soon. We had some time to kill anyway, so we grabbed a spot across the way from Pecos Bills and settled in to wait. It was pretty hot in this spot, we were directly under the sun and there was no shade to be found , so Chris went over to the snack cart to get us some ice pops and water to keep us cool. We were chatting with a man and his daughter, who also happened to be from NJ, while waiting. They seemed nice enough, but as the parade moved along he really began to wear on my nerves. I should have known he was going to be a problem when his daughter complained about the parade being late and his reply was that “Mickey must have some diarrhea”. Who says that?? As the parade continued past us he was screaming and yelling at all of the characters, just acting really obnoxious.
After the parade, we still had some time before we could use our FPs, so we hopped on a raft over to Tom Sawyer Island, another first for us! The girls had a blast over there exploring the caves and fort, I was surprised how big that island actually is, it doesn’t appear to be when you are looking at it from afar.
Finally, it was time for our turn on Splash, so we headed that way. Abby almost bailed on riding this one, and I couldn’t figure out why. I knew she wasn’t afraid, this has always been one of her favorites on previous trips. Finally, we figured out that she didn’t want to get wet, but that was an easy fix, she agreed to ride if she got to wear her poncho and of course she loved it!
From there we headed to HM, Abby and I rested on a nearby bench while Chris and Kaeli visited with those Happy Haunts. On the way out, Kaeli decided to use some of her souvenir money to buy some HM ears that she had seen on my friend's daughter the night before, she wore them for the rest of the trip! Kaeli was also trying to talk Abby into riding after they were done, and she nearly succeeded! She and Chris got all the way up through the Graveyard when she chickened out. Oh well, maybe next year!
At this point it was getting close to our dinner ADR, so we headed off to the Crystal Palace to get checked in. We had just a short wait, so we sat down on a bench and just admired the view of the castle while we waited.
Soon enough, we were ushered inside and brought to our table. Dinner was delicious as always, and we had a lot of fun with the characters from the Hundred Acre Woods.
After dinner, we did a little browsing in the Emporium shops, but didn’t make any purchases this time. The girls decided that they wanted to do some swimming, so we made our way out of the park and found a POR bus waiting for us.
Back at the hotel, the girls quickly changed and we were off to the pool, where the girls swam a bit while Chris and I enjoyed a few drinks from Muddy Rivers. A little after 9 we headed back to our room for some showers, and it was lights out by 10 pm.
I guess this time not taking a mid-day break worked well! A great day, except for the weirdo at the parade. I can't believe that comment about why the parade was late-- ?????
Your TR is making me so excited for my trip in MAY! We are staying at POR and this will be our first time. We have stayed at POFQ, but never Riverside. Your family is so cute!
Why are some people just so darn strange. Hopefully he didn't ruin the parade for you guys.
Love the HM ears!!!
Your DH cracked me up in the SM pic. Poor Abby she looked so upset on Splash!
