Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Reading this and seeing the pics brings back our amazing memories from getting to go to DLP this summer! We used our DVC points to stay at Sequoia Lodge, which was a beautiful hotel (and had a shower curtain). Also they sold the DLP wine in the gift shop! We too thought many of the rides were more intense than their WDW counterpart. Most of those we liked, except Space Mountain. I now know why the lady in front of me took her earrings off before getting on. Wish I would've done the same the way it slammed my head around in the head rest. We also rode the RC Racer, and I think I kept my eyes shut almost the entire time! It was a really long wait for a less than 5 min ride! I wish we would've been able to try more sit down restaurants there, but being on a tight budget, it wasn't happening! We ended up mostly eating in the Disney Village (and the Rainforest Cafe does NOT have the same type of menu as they do here at home)!

I so wish I'd known that or thought to look for it in there!

Lovely to read your thoughts on DLP. We all like it very much but it doesn't pull at my heart strings the way both Florida and California do but maybe that is because it is easily accessible. Have a lovely birthday trip.

FINALLY! I am caught up. I just loved reading this and really took my time to catch up on it. Your fall tree pictures are stunning. The trip, though short, looks like fun. I really loved those Halloween decorations too. It was a bit of a disappointment at WDW after seeing your Paris ones.

Once again, thanks so much for sharing your trip. Now waiting for the "big" one!!!!

The pre-trip report for that one is already underway in the WDW Trip Reports forum, so no more waiting...

Thank you so much for sharing your trip report with us, Cheryl. It's taken two days to read it all, but the photos brought back such memories that I was almost in tears. I'm a Francophile through and through, adore the theming of that park and think the castle is the prettiest in any of the Disney parks. I love the scale of it which helps to fit the whole "jewel-box" impression. While I find the Studios to be lacking compared to those at WDW, it's still a fun place - I was even brave enough to try the Toy Story Parachute Drop even after a 15 minute stoppage for "repairs" to the mechanism ( just a tiny bit less scary than my flight from Barcelona to Orly, when the mechanic fixed the non-working engine by hitting it with a heavy instruction manual!!)!
While I truly dislike most of the "service" in DP, the friendliness of the characters is very special. The ever-present cigarette smoking (nope, I was told that they " don't care to enforce the official ban) and the endless hassle to get a GAC and then have even the needed accommodations for parades refused (seriously, I can not stand for long periods and I'm in the roped off area, so WHY, Mr Cast Member, would you allow a wall of able-bodied people to stand right in front of the bench to which you assigned me? And Mr Assist Manager, that man has no legs and is in a wheel chair, but he's not allowed to bring his 3 family members into the "handicapped" area, which had plenty of room?!). Umm, no, I can not sit in the back seat of the Peter Pan sleigh-my knee doesn't bend like that, but it's that or nothing because you refuse to listen or read my GAC! And I speak fluent French, so there was no communication problem-grrrr Service and maintenance is NOT up to Disney standards!
The Alice maze is my favorite! Can you just imagine the troubles with putting one of those in WDW??? The unruly American kids would wreck it inside of the first hour and parents would come armed with their attorneys on speed dial!!
The resorts there, for the most part are mediocre. My heart's home is the WL at WDW, and the Sequoia Lodge staff is great, but peeling wallpaper and the lounge floor covered in trash? To be honest, the last time I was there was a cold, wet early November and while we were in the main, Montana building( thanks to the lovely front desk manger who kindly gave me a room upgrade when I inquired) and the outer buildings were packed with UK tourists with huge families. They'd bring tote bags of belongings to the lounge early in the day, spread out and leave things hogging up all of the couches and spots by the fireplaces- enough alcohol and they didn't hear their small kids running and screaming through the lobby and through the lounge!! I was a wee bit thrilled to know that we Americans don't have all of the bad manners in the world!!
For those who didn't care for the Yankees logo at the Hotel New York: the corresponding one at the other end of the building is the Mets!! The skating rink is still outside there in the fall and winter.
Has anyone tried the Princess Luncheon in the park? It takes about 2 hours but the food is good, beautifully presented and there's a load of character interaction. Great when it's pouring rain, which seems to be the norm there from October thru April!!
A word of caution, if I may? While the enclosed corridors in back of the shops on Main Street are lovely and handy, those €<>#% tile floors can get very slippery when they're wet! The ceiling is pretty, but I'd rather see it from any angle other than parallel to it!!
OK, enough from me, and again, thanks for sharing. Cheryl, when will you be at WDW? We arrive on the 10th and leave on the 20th- love to meet you and Mark if the timing works!
Suzanne

That's good to know about the Mets - maybe next time we're there, I'll have to try and photograph that, just to be completely fair!

Is that the one just behind the Castle in Auberge du Cendrillon (did I remember that right?) - I like the idea of it, but the price is just crazy! I always get put off by that...

We're there from 6-15 December, so drop me a private message with your plans and maybe we can work something out if some of our park time coincides. Also, there is already a PassPorter meet planned for the Christmas Party on 11 December, if you happen to have tickets for that?
