Running Through Walt's Original Magic Kingdom **COMPLETE 10/9** - Page 12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I did not take any notes for race day, so I'm going from pictures and memory...mostly pictures. I remember walking through Downtown Disney to get to our hotel, because I stopped and called my parents to let them know how the race went. We went to the hotel, showered and headed out, because we had a very special breakfast to attend! First, a closeup of the medals we'd earned:
Disneyland half marathon medal. If you finished this race, you got one of these.
My favorite medal - the Coast to Coast. We'd earned this one because we ran a Disney race at both WDW and DLR in 2011.
We'd gotten a voucher for one meal with our Costco package, and we'd chosen Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel. Although we had a reservation at 12:00, we had to wait for a bit. My receipt shows that we prepaid for our meal using our voucher at 12:08. Duffy visited with Mickey and Minnie while we waited.
Once we were shown to our table, we helped ourselves to the buffet. Here's the only plate I remembered to take a photo of:
Duffy wasn't very hungry, but apparently, he was thirsty!
One thing I'll say about this restaurant experience: it sure had an eclectic mix of characters! First, we saw Baloo, and then Cinderella, followed by Belle in her blue dress. We told each character about how Duffy belonged to our daughters, and they all gave him lots of love and attention.
However, that attention was nothing compared to what the next two characters offered! Here is some photographic evidence:
This photo is so blurry because I was laughing so hard!
The highlight of the meal was when Chip sat down at the table and started communicating via the paper table cover. He'd ask us questions by writing them down, and we'd answer him out loud. It went back and forth like that for a while, and eventually, he drew a picture for our youngest daughter.
So much fun! I don't know if only Chip is at this meal, or if Dale just didn't show up at our table. It would seem strange to have one without the other...

Soooooo jealous of this medal!!!! I did this in 2010 and got the big number 5 medal for the 5th anniversary. Had I known that, I would have held off on doing the coast to coast for 1 more year. Oh well. I guess I have to just do this race again to get this gorgeous medal!!!!
We also had a wonderful interaction with Chip at Goofy's breakfast. And only Chip, no Dale. He was great fun and wrote on our table too! I'm glad you got to experience that as well!!

It IS pretty, isn't it? Sorry you got the 5. Bet they thought you would think it was pretty special... The funny thing it, it looks like the Old English D that is the symbol for the Detroit Tigers! That's what I think of when I see it. I do love the C2C medal, though.
How great that you got the same kind of interaction that we did with Chip. I was laughing SO hard; it was great to get that kind of interaction, even though we were adults with no kids!
The breakfast I went to at DL also had a crazy mix of characters. At first I thought it was strange, but it was so much fun because you never knew who would come out next. Funny, we also had Chip but no Dale-- and Chip had us all laughing, too, dancing and carrying on.
Our park for the afternoon was California Adventure, because we had a reservation with friends at Ariel's Grotto for dinner. We had mostly been spending time at Disneyland and hadn't been to CA since our first day, so we had lots of catching up to do. First, we took a silly picture of Duffy with a very big hat!
We'd been told not to miss the Aladdin show at DCA, and our Costco package had come with priority seating, so that was our first stop once we hit the park. It was awesome! We started chatting with the lady next to us, and found out that her brother was in the show! We weren't really supposed to take pictures, but I snuck a couple (non-) ones anyway:
The Genie was the highlight of the show!
The big man to the left of Iago (with the blue plume on his turban) is the brother of the woman next to us
After the show, we wanted to see if we could set up a meeting between little Duffy and his lifesized counterpart. We happened upon Lightning McQueen and Mater out for a meet with a fairly small line, so we visited with them before heading to:
We had to wait quite a long time, and it was hot standing in the sun, but it was worth it.
Duffy waited very patiently, and once the big guy arrived, we'd been there a long time, so we took a quick photo and went over to visit with another of our favorites:
We purchased this birthday Duffy for our oldest DD, who would be turning 12 the week after we got back from DLR.
I guess you're determined to finish up with this report so you can move on-- as soon as I post a response there's another update!
I must have missed the announcement or sign that said no pics during Aladdin-- I took a ton of them (no flash, of course)! What a great photo of Mickey with birthday Duffy.
Next on our to-do list was Monsters, Inc.: Mike & Sully to the Rescue! We passed through A Bug's Land again on our way to the Hollywood Pictures Backlot:
Check out the "baby" in the stroller!
Light fixture!
The parade was going on as we made our way from one end of the park to the other:
We waited a long time for Monsters Inc., but I knew we could ONLY ride this here, and at least it was inside and not in the hot sun!
I had my Disneyland Hidden Mickey's book out, so the CM told me about a couple to watch out for. There's one in this picture!
This ride moves VERY fast, so most of my pictures didn't turn out very well.
I love this scene in the movie. She can't speak intelligible words, but she's potty trained?
CDA are my son's intials
Usually, Roz talks to people as they go by in the cars. She had nothing to say to us.
Dinner was up next! We probably had about 30 people in our Tour Guide Mike group eating at Ariel's Grotto tonight. Since we were such a big group, it took some time for them to figure out how they were going to seat us, but we didn't mind waiting. We were out of the sun, and had lots of friends to chat and catch up with.
We were finally seated in a separate room, which was out by the water. It was lovely! The appetizers and desserts were family style, and the entrees were a la carte.
Our antipasti tower included: Salami, Marinated Mozzarella, Tomatoes, Gherkins, Olives, Red Pepper Bracelets, Chilled Vegetables with Pesto and Ranch dips, and "Jewels of the Sea" Fruit Gelatin, String Cheese, and Seasonal Fruit, A Mixed Greens Salad served with Ariel's Grotto House Vinaigrette, Sourdough Pull-apart Flower. (Obviously, we had seafood, too, which is not mentioned in the allears menu)
We enjoyed some adult beverages, beer for DH and this Very Berry Punch for me
Cioppino: Lobster Tail, Scallops, Sustainable Fish, Green-lip Mussels, Shrimp, and Bilbao Chorizo in a Fire-roasted Tomato Broth.
Lava Cake, Chocolate-Chip Strips, French Macaroons, S'more Chocolate Bites and a White Chocolate Conch Shell of fresh Berries. It was really a wonderful, relaxing way to end a fabulous, fun-filled weekend. It was also quite pricey ($120 for the two of us, including tip).

Yep, I want to get this one done so I can finish my marathon report from January. Maybe it wasn't the PHOTOS I wasn't supposed to take...it may have been the video I was thinking of!
Wow, you have been busy with the updates! What an amazing time at Goofy's Kitchen - such fun memories! I remember having a great time when we last ate there and I'm hoping we'll get to go back in December.

I went back and forth on which character meal to do. I'm glad it worked out so well.
