There’ll Be a Smile Where a Frown Used to Be - PTR - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

You're one tough lady to have a broken nose and a fluid filled knee and didn't think it was bad enough for a doctor. I'm going to be starting the couch to 5 k this week, but I'll try to be extra careful now! Good luck!!
I kind of fell off the face of the earth for a couple of weeks, so I'm just getting caught up.
First, your ADRs look great! I truly do hope Matthew can join you, but I totally feel your pain about the "possible" extra person. For our 8-day trip in December (when we were already a party of 8), BIL first told me he'd be joining us for the last 3 days. So I made ADRs accordingly. Then he decided about 2 months before the trip that he'd join us on Day3 instead, so I had to change all of our ADRs to a party of 9, including our Candlelight Processional package -- ummm, hello! He was completely shocked when DH told him that we'd already had our plans in place for 4 months by this time. I'm glad you got it all worked out!! Sorry about having to cancel Brown Derby and Flying Fish, though.
Second, OH NO!! I hope you are healing up nicely in time for your trip! You poor thing. I've definitely taken some bad spills (including some "flights") while running, but nothing that bad. Glad your glasses will get fixed on the cheap, though -- way to find the silver lining!

Hard to imagine how you managed all that damage just jogging--sounds like you were in a bad car crash. You really must have been flying!
I have to laugh about it now, but it wasn't too funny right after it happened! I was going pretty fast but only because we were running downhill. I'd never fall if we were going uphill!

My Cody dog is the best! She's absolutely devoted to me.

Lol!!! You are so right. I need to become a couch potato - it's so much safer!

On a lighter note The GIRLS don't go to camp till Friday and they love it there The people that own and run it have younger kids and love to play with my 2 So while they would prefer if Daddy stayed with them they do okay Considering how things might go with some of my family that might not be such a bad idea.
I'm glad your girls enjoy camp. My baby-dogs don't so I'm still sad about leaving them.

The funniest/saddest thing about this is that people who know me weren't surprised that I would trip while running. I am known for my clumsiness

I am on the mend and feeling really good. I'm not supposed to run again for a few more days, but I think I'm ready!

Good luck with C25K!!!! I LOVE that program. I always think I have a low pain tolerance, but a few years ago we were hiking and I twisted my ankle. We turned around and hiked 3 miles to our car. My husband said I had a bad sprain, but he didn't think it was broken (he's an engineer, not a doctor). It was super swollen and black and blue. It hurt, but I walked on it for two weeks. I had these horrible shooting pains and finally decided to see my doctor. It was broken and I had to have a cast. I don't know if I'm tough or crazy.

I am soooo glad that someone else occasionally falls when they run. Sometimes it just can't be helped - at least that's what I tell myself!!!
My 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Norwood, told me more than once, “An idle mind is the Devil’s workshop” and “Idle hands are the Devil’s tools”. Well, I’m certain I wasn’t the devil’s plaything, but I sure had lots of time on my hands the past few days as I healed up from my fall. What better way to spend it than re-planning our trip, which just happens to start in 10 days???
I spoke with Matthew and told him I really needed to have a better idea of his plans. He said he was about 90% certain he’d join us. That was good enough for me. I told him to make his airline reservations and I’d take care of the resort.
I Disney and added him to our room, dining plan and got his tickets. After I hung up, I thought about how much I disliked the idea of sharing a bathroom with three males . In my home I only use our master bathroom for showering or bathing. I use another bathroom for everything else, including my grooming. A one bedroom Villa at WL was not going to work for me.
I Disney again and asked if I could move to a two bedroom instead. There were none available! Uh oh. Changing from Steve’s favorite resort was not something I wanted to do without talking to him first. I was also feeling bad because Eric had hopes of being a Family.
When he came home from work, I told him Matthew would in all likelihood be joining us. I mentioned the bathroom situation and the fact that there were no two bedroom villas available at WL. He is such a great guy – he said he completely understood why I would hate sharing and said he would have no problem giving up WL if I could find a resort that would allow me to have my own bathroom. He also tried to reassure me that once Eric used the night vision goggles to see the animals, he’d forget all about being a Family. (I hope.)
So, I thought and thought and thought . I don’t want to break the bank on this trip - we just went in January, and we are planning to take my brother’s two youngest daughters in June. It might be different if WDW trips were the only vacations we take, but they aren’t and we aren’t rich. I knew that the Kidani one bedrooms have two bathrooms, so that seemed like a good place to book.
I WDW (again) and switched us from VWL to AKL-Kidani. I was pretty happy with that for a few hours. But then I thought about the boats that Steve would miss. And how weird it might be for Matthew to share a sleeping area with a 12 year old, even though they are cousins. Since SSR and OKW are less expensive, I decided to book a two bedroom at OKW. It is such a good thing that I never speak to the same CM when I call.
So, now we were set! Until I spoke to Matthew that evening. He said that looking at the resorts, he’d prefer a two bedroom at BC or AKL. He said he’d gladly pay the difference for a two bedroom at whatever resort I chose, but those would be his preferred resorts. Grrrr. But then he said something that turned everything on its head – he said, “There is still a very slim chance that I might not join you. It might be unnecessary for us to get a two bedroom. I’ll still pay for the upgrade, but it’s something you might want to think about.”
I thought about it – for hours – and finally decided to go with a one bedroom at AKL-Kidani. I really don’t want my son to pay for a bedroom that he might not use and I don’t want to pay for it either. Matthew said that he’d be happy on the chair-bed as his penance for being unable to give me a firm commitment.
I’m pretty sure that we’re locked in at AKL. But I’m not doing online check-in for a few days just in case……
I'm glad you didn't have to have the fluid drained and that your MD says you'll be ok for WDW!! I just have to laugh at the saga of booking/cancelling rooms. I understand the reasons you made every choice you made, but all the same it made me kind of glad I travel solo! Seriously, though, your 3 (or 2) guys will be great travel companions judging by how they're going along with the changes!
Sorry to hear that your plans are still so up in the air at this date. THat Mathew will will be able to join you before he reports. Think it will go a long way way with showing young Eric that he is not alone and has family he can turn to.
Side note The Girls did great at camp BUT went nuts when I picked them up They were pulling me so fast tring to get to the car that I lost my footing and had to let go of the leashes just in time to keep from being dragged under the car. (Hint a PRIUS isn't that high and while I may be skinny I am not that skinny
