As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

My ds10 has asked to go to legoland in Atlanta. (We live north of Atlanta and it would be an easy under 2 hour drive).
When my kids hit the double digits (10) I have a "tradition" of taking them on a 1 on 1 trip for a few days...
I took my oldest to Washington, DC for a few days; my second oldest to Disney World for a few days; and my third on a cruise for a few days....
Well, my first thought when he said Legoland was Orlando- and I thought I'd suprise him and stay at the Nickelodeon Suites which I know he would love!
But then I realized he was talking about the legoland in Atlanta and he doesn't even know one exists in Orlando. Part of me feels bad to just take him to Atlanta when the other, older kids have had more elaborate trips.... but if that's what he wants... and of course I would find other things to do in Atlanta and we would get a nice hotel (wish Atlanta had a Nickelodeon hotel!), ect....
Anyhow. In researching the two legolands- they seem to be completely different. The one in Orlando seems to be a full fledge theme park. The one in Atlanta is mainly a bunch of lego type activities with a just a few rides mixed in.... I think he is visualizing doing lego stuff- like the one in Atlanta; not a bunch of rides....
I'd love to hear from someone who has been to both and hear a comparison.... Or if you've been to either- what was your experience? Did Orlando have "lego activities" or is it just all rides? I got a good feel from their websites, but it's hard to know exactly what all they have to offer....

Don't know about the one in Atlanta, but friends have been to the Lego Discovery Center in Chicago and said it was a "store on steroids." They were visiting relatives in the Chicago area anyway, but said it wasn't worth a special trip.
If the one in Orlando is like the one in California (and I believe it is) there are more rides than opportunities to play and build with Legos. And a 10 year old is really at the top end of the market for the rides. So that may not be the best option, either.
You have a tough choice on your hands. You might be better taking him to "Atlanta for a few days," per your practice, and making the Lego place one of your stops. Then you'll have other places to go and things to do if it isn't what you'd hoped. Doesn't Atlanta have a fabulous aquarium?
I agree with above, I think Atlanta is just a discovery center (store with extras) and Orlando is definitely a theme park. DS was 10 on our last trip to LEGOland (in FL - he was 8 for the one in CA) and he had more fun than DD (who was almost 13). I guess it's a tough decision. Could you do any other parks/things in FL or are you just going for LEGOland? There is a water park there now, so you could spend more time. In Atlanta you have other things there to occupy your time as well, not just the LEGO center.

Near the entrance is an restaurant that has a kid area with legos. There are lots of things to do in Orlando including playing with the blocks. There are lots of kid friendly rides. I liked the park even if I was hit with a downpour while in the far end of the park. I recommend the Orlando park to families with lego maniacs. Never been to the Atlanta one though so cannot compare. Try youtube and online to see what is available at each park.

Did the Orlando Legoland have lego activities in addition to the rides?
This was the only activity that I'm aware of, although we didn't go inside! Imagination Zone - LEGOLAND They also had a watershow, since it's on the grounds of the old Cypress Gardens. There is also a walk thru the gardens area beautiful trees.
