What will it be for trip #3? (August 5-14, 2012) - Page 36 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We have some concern about no stroller as well - we seem to bring a lot of stuff to the parks! I like the idea of each child having their own fanny pack....wonder if I can find any around here.....hmmmm....got me thinking now! If not, I will be paring down what we bring into the park by a lot! We always threw bottles of water in the bag, fans, 'big' ponchos, sunscreen....tons of stuff. Now we won't be bringing the water, the kids can carry fans, I bought dollar store ponchos (with Canada flags all over them ) which we'll carry unless they are calling for all day rain - then we'll bring the 'big ones'. I'll be thinking carefully when I pack the bag!

We also loaded up the stroller with all of the things you said. We will leave out water bottles and utilize free cups of water that we can get from CS food stands. Those dollar store ponchos should fit in the fanny packs. Not sure about the fans....We have one of those bog fan/water bottles that we bought at WDW in 2010 and it seems large for anyone to actually carry--we used to have it hanging on the stroller. Whew!

Yesterday was a crazy day...I left at 8am and returned about 10pm...
DD had her last voice lesson of the summer in the morning, then we had to drive about 45 minutes to pick up DH's old trumpet that was re-conditioned for DS to use in school band this year...then back near home for a playdate for the kids while I drove to work (30 minutes and back)....Then...the curveball...
Our dog was not adjusting well to life with my friend and her 3 kids and big dog. She had been having daily accidents and the stress was wearing on my friend and causing stress in their marriage. Although she kept saying that she was positive things would turn around, it had been a week and Marlo seemed content, but still peed and pooped. So I called my brother yesterday to see if there was anyway they could watch her while we were at WDW. (That was the original plan, but when we added the cabin trip the week before it would not work for them and we thought it would be easier on Marlo to be at one place for 3 weeks instead of going for 4 days, coming home only to be sent away for another 2 somewhere else--we were WRONG!).
Amazingly, they were eager to help (and DB's GF LOVES our little "purse-sized" [compared to her monster dogs] and wsa disappointed that she was not to be visiting). So...after work, I had to get the kids from the playdate....drive 90 minutes to my friend's house...then 90 minutes in another direction to my brother's and then the hour drive home. (Again...SO GLAD WE ARE NOT DRIVING TO WDW!!!).
It was the right thing for our dog. I have never seen her so excited as when we arrived. I was afraid she would pee from excitement! Luckily, she did not. The entire drive to DB's house, she was glued to my lap/chest. At my brother's she barely left my side, but she did greet DB and his GF excitedly as well. We hung out for about 2 hours and she went potty outside while I was there. She got used to the big dogs who seemed like gentle bears. A few times when we went outside to play (they have a huge yard and my kids got to ride a 4-wheeler) Marlo went over to my van and sat down by it. She obviously did not want to be left behind. It was hard to leave her. I feel bad that we had not had her home the past week. I had no idea how hard it would be on her.
A bad thing...My brother has a dog that is a very mean dog. It was a rescue vizsla. He fell in love with the breed after caring for my friend's vizsla (same as above) after she had her 3rd baby. Katy's dog is well-bred, well-trained and had a great home. It is an amazing dog. DB's dog...clearly has issues. He has bit both my girls in the past (mildly, but we told him he could never again bring the dog to our house). Recently he bit the GF so she needed stitches. She told him he needed to get rid of the dog, but then was willing to give it another chance. This dog was the main reason I did not want Marlo to stay there. Last night, the dog escaped the basement (I think one of my kids went down to explore) and somehow ended up biting Delaney. It happened when I was outside helping Marlo acclimate. Hannah ran out and said "Buster bit Delaney" and I ran it to hear shrieks of horror. The dog had bit her on the write. There are tow spots where it broke the skin. It looked puffy and starting showing signs of bruising right away. She would not really allow us to examine it much. We put bacitracin on it and a bandaid.
Anyway...got nothing done for WDW yesterday...Today I need to finish up a project for work...put everything in the suitcases...and clean the house. I do not expect to check back her (if I can keep myself away) but I will likely post updates from WDW.
