What will it be for trip #3? (August 5-14, 2012) - Page 34 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I used to teach 6th grade foreign language but last year I got moved to 3rd grade (and I love it!!).
As far as the online check in, when I did it it the area for requests had nothing to select. I went back several times during the 10 days and this never changed. ( last year when I did the online check in it gave me options to pick from). So even though I did the online check in, I also called to double check that my previous requests were noted on my reservation, and they were. So all was well! Good luck!
I tried doing that on my last visit and HISTK had at least 50 people waiting to get into the playground.
Oh My!

Once again, it shows your great parenting skills that even though Ben secretly did not want him there, he still invited him,and what a blessing that turned out to be!!! We all need a friend who will love us for our good, bad, and ugly times (because we all have them). I'm so glad Hannah has found one for her. That little girl sounds like a keeper for sure! I hope they end up in the same class together this year. I'm sure your trip will be great, but I understand your worries.
Thanks for your kind and encouraging words!!
[QUOTE=stardust190;3996527]Ok so I'm late in reading your PTR, but I finished reading it before you left! Sounds like your planning was a little back and forth at times, but that you've got great plans for the trip now!The Boneyard was the highlight of the trip for DS.
I can't believe how much income you have from garage sales and surveys.
I will say I'm a little disappointed that you aren't driving...

Is the boneyard sheltered at all from the sun?
I think my garage sale tally has as much to do with our busy city garage sales as anythin else!
After a 2-hour drive to my friend's cabin....me and the kids are all very relieved that we are not driving to WDW!

It scared the daylights out of my youngest - so much so that we had to avoid roaring noises, fireworks and large dinosaurs for the remainder of that day. In fact, he woke up this morning yammering about "scary noise" and pointed to a plastic dinosaur the boys have in their room.
You might want to prepare Hannah for it, or help her to avoid that area until she's used to the sound.
Thanks for the warning about the boneyard. Hannah can react to sudden noises!

There are parts of the boneyard that have some shade, but the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground at DHS seemed to have more shade. We got to that area around 12:00 ish and it wasn't very crowded, but then again we seemed to have pretty good luck with crowds during our trip.

Ch-Ch-Changes July 2015

We are back from the cabin. It was wonderful but I am now facing a pile of laundry!
I just completed my nline checkin for POR. There were no requests available for me to check. When I clicked on the "special requests" button I was only given an option to check is I wanted a play yard. I was not given a phone number to call to confirm anything.
My confirmation noted the special request of graound floor, which is not really
I have paid for a Water (river?) view, only because that was all that was available with my discount--no standard and no preferred. I do not care about any water view but I did request to be close to laundry in case my food-allergy child has one of her bad reactions....When I made that request over the phone originally, the woman I spoke to kept asking me if I wanted a "ground floor." I eventually said yes if that will help me get closer to laundry. It was as if tat was the most relevant button she could click! LOL My requests in order of inportance are:
1. Close to Laundry
2. Close to main pool
3. Ground floor
View is not important. I would rather be taken out of the water view category if it means getting my #1 and any of the other requests.
I called Disney...and after entering all of the prompts in the system...I hung up after being on hold for 20 minutes.
I then set about finding contact information for POR so I could reach them more directly. I will try to call tomorrow as I would expect the more "regular" staff to be working on weekdays.
If my math is correct...I should also be able to checkin onliune for OKW tomorrow. We arrive there Aug 9 (our anniversary!). Perhaps I will look up their direct contact information as well. I would really love to have one of the one-bedrooms that have two doors on the bathroom so the kids do not need to enter our room to use the bathroom.

Sorry room requests have been a pain. Hopefully when you call you'll be able to get it all straightened out. As far as the Boneyard goes I don't think there was all that much shade. AK is the least shady park in WDW and I think the Boneyard follows that. There was some shade, but not much. Even looking at our pictures I found them all to be really sunny without shade. They do have some tunnels or something for the kids to run through that would probably be shady. We didn't go into them though as they had water running down them and we didn't want DS to get all wet.

So we should try for the boneyard early in the day! Thanks!
I tried to do online checkin this morning for OKW but the system did not seem to be working well. It kept re-directing me back to the sign-on page.
I decided to send a fax to POR and OKW to make my requests. It is the first time I have ever done that, so we will see hwat happens.
I tried again now to do online checkin for OKW and it worked!
My checkin options were different at OKW than POR.
In the requests area, I clicked on "special requests" and the following options appeared:
Room Requests:
Add up to 2 room requests. Though we try to honor all requests, we cannot guarantee them, unless otherwise indicated below.
Room Requests Requests Dual Lavatory Entrances
Request Miller's Road Area
Request Old Turtle Pond Road Area
Request Canal View
Request Fairway View
Request Canal View
Request Peninsular Road Are
Ground floor
Request South Point Road Area
Request Hospitality House Area
Near transportation
Housekeeping Requests Pack 'n Play® Playard
It also prompted me to add my celebration, which I did not see on the POR checkin.
You would think they'd all have more specific requests on the site? Maybe it's too much work to organize it all though, so they just take requests from those who take the time to contact them directly. Hope it all works out for you! Not much longer until you find out!!!!
