Rain, Sunshine & Cupcakes ~ June 24 - July 3 - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Monday June 25 part 1
A special birthday celebration
I woke up at 6:00 am and quickly looked out the window. It was still raining pretty hard. Bummer! I got ready anyway and woke up the rest of the gang. While they got ready I called front desk to ask at what time did the busses start running because we had a 7:50 am adr at Chef Mickey’s. She told me they start early and that I should be at the bus stop at least 40 minutes before my adr. I also asked her at what time did the gift shop opened. The night before I didn’t buy any ponchos, thinking that in the morning the rain would’ve stopped. But TS Debby had other plans and she wasn’t going anywhere . The CM told me that Fulton’s opened at 8:00. Oh great! Now what? A minute later the same CM called me back to make sure I knew that I had to take the MK bus and then make my way over to the Contemporary. Great customer service! Gotta love Disney!
At 7:00 we left the room. It was still raining steadily with no sign of stopping. The guys had on caps but since I didn’t have anything to protect myself from the rain, I took a small towel and covered my head. I also covered Adriel with a towel because he’s asthmatic and I didn’t want him to get sick. The good thing about our room location was that it was very close to the West Depot, which is the first stop for MK busses and second for the rest of the parks.
It was probably 20 minutes before a bus arrived. I was getting kind of nervous about not arriving on time. On the way I felt something tickling my throat and couldn’t stop coughing. This went on for a couple of minutes. I probably had the guy next to me thinking I had some kind of contagious illness.
We finally arrived at MK and the rain was really coming down now. We walked/ran towards the monorail as fast as we could. We were soon on the monorail and on our way to meet Mickey and friends. We got to Chef Mickey’s right on time.
I checked us in and got our picture taken, which we later bought. Less than five minutes later we were seated. Our server took our drink orders and told us the order in which the characters came to the tables. Goofy was already out! I sent the guys over to the buffet to get their food. They arrived just in time!
The kids with Goofy!
Arben could easily get a job as Goofy!
Mickey wasn’t far behind!
After that, I hit the buffet. And here’s what I had.
Bacon, breakfast pizza, scambled eggs and potatoes.
While I was away, they brought Abniel’s birthday cupcake. We sang to him and he made his wish.
They brought one for AJ too. I had noted his graduation in the adr.
The birthday boy!
It was Donald’s turn to visit us.
Then Minnie Mouse.
And last but not least, Pluto.
I had a second plate which consisted of fruit and yogurt. Sorry no pics. I have to admit that I didn’t eat much. I’m not a big breakfast person. So I probably ate about half the food I got.
After we were done, we settled the bill and headed out. Arben took Abniel and Adriel to the bathroom while I went to the gift shop with AJ to buy some ponchos. As I entered the shop I noticed a CM’s nametag and saw that she was from Puerto Rico. So I started talking to her. She was really nice and offered me some tips. I made my way over to counter to ask about the ponchos. They had them out and ready to purchase. $4o later , we had our Disney ponchos and were headed to MK.
Next up... The jerk with the bad ride mojo makes an appeareance
Sorry about the rain....glad you made it to Chef Mickey's without getting too soaked. Breakfast looked like great fun. Angel picked Chef Mickey's for her birthday breakfast as well. Glad you are now armed with some ponchos...
Sorry about the rain and the lack of ponchos. DH and I got stuck in a big thunderstorm in 2009 when we were on our honeymoon. I think we ended up walking along the boardwalk in the pouring rain and then finally stopping to buy those (overpriced) ponchos. By the time we got to Epcot for our ADR at LeCellier we were soaked and ended up frozen with all the air conditioning. I learned to always bring the ponchos.
Other than the rain it sounds like a wonderful start to a birthday! I bet the boys had a great meal. We enjoyed Chef Mickeys on our last trip.

Nice breakfast. It looks so empty in there. It always seems to be chaocitc, so you hit it at the right time. Glad you finally got your ponchos. I brought cheay dollar store ponchos last year...but Claire hate it and insisted on a Disney one. Rather than hear her wine half the day I borke down and got one...and I admit it was much nicer than the cheapy ones we had.
Breakfast looked like a lot of fun! I always love CMs for breakfast It is a bummer about the rain, but atleast now you have your ponchos and can try to make the best of it!
Sigh...now I'm even more sad that we didn't fit Chef Mickey's in for breakfast this trip. Sorry about the rain, but glad it hasn't seemed to ruin things for you. Though...I'm a bit worried about the bad ride mojo guy you hinted at!

What a bummer about the rain. As soon as you left and I heard the news about the tropical storm, I was hoping you weren't going to have to deal with it. At least you had a great breakfast at CM!
