A New Grade, A New House, and A Surprise! TR August 21-31 - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

This morning we have an early ADR at Akershus. We've been here for lunch before, but never breakfast and have heard that it's pretty good. We're not overly picky people, so I am sure we'll find something to eat! Any idea if there are Mickey waffles here??
We will be meeting BF and her family here, then I'm sure we will start our touring with them as well.
We're hoping to be done breakfast by park open and we'll head over with the masses to ride Soarin'. Then we'll meander around Future World checking out whatever we feel like - Sum of All Thrills is definitely on the to-do list this trip as we've never tried it before.
When World Showcase opens, we'll make our way through the countries and grab something to eat when we are hungry. In our discussions about "next year's" (fictional!) trip, both kids have expressed a desire to look around each pavilion more. We have 3 days scheduled for Epcot, so I'm sure we'll have time to do just that!
Whenever we've had enough, we'll head back to the resort for the night and I'm sure we'll swim There will be little to no commando touring this trip. We've been enough and are here long enough that we will see what we can and just 'be'. I am soooo looking forward to that!

What a cute story, wait until you wake her up and tell her she is going. I am so excited that you kept this surprise, I think it will be a great reveal.
Great plans for Day 2. Unless they changed the menu, there was no Mickey Waffles at Akershus. But the breakfast is really good!!
Glad to know the breakfast is yummy! We are planning on eating breakfast in our room most days, so only a few chances for those waffles! Eating in the room just makes getting ready so much easier; kids get ready, then eat while we get ready.

I absolutely cannot wait for this!!! We saw it last trip, but DS was too small, so we didn't bother. Now we're good to go! Any idea if DH can design with DS, but I ride with him? DH isn't a fan of rollercoasters....

Mickey waffles are not officially on the menu, but they can make them there. We ate there in 2010 and I remember them making some for my DDs.
Good to know about the waffles! We'll definitely ask, and if the answer's no, we'll still enjoy our breakfast!!!

I hope so!! Today was Alex's birthday and when we were chatting yesterday about what he'd like to do today, Sabrina piped up "Go to Disney!!" I laughed and asked her if she was paying since we were spending all our money on a new house. She said she had thousands hidden away (yeah, maybe in Monopoly money ) and she was taking us to the "Beachy place Mommy wants to stay at one day". So sweet.

Today is another early day - EMH at MK! I loved EMH here last time we made it in time for it, so we will definitely be here for rope drop and get in a few of our favourite rides before the official park open time. Last trip, we grabbed breakfast at Main Street Bakery and ate outside, watching the citizens of Main Street and the people making their way into the park. Heavenly..... Hoping to somewhat recreate this for this trip.
We really have no major plans for this day until dinner at Ohana' tonight. This lends itself nicely to my meandering plans for this trip We however, definitely be heading to the front of the park to grab a Princess FP so DD can meet Rapunzel; this is all she talks about for our fictional future trip. Hopefully we'll get there early and not need the FP, but we'll see!
Mid-afternoon-ish, we'll head back to WL and get ready for our dinner. It is our first time eating at Ohana' for dinner and DH is very excited for the skewers of meat . After dinner we'll probably head back to MK for a bit, then maybe return to the Poly to watch the fireworks. Tomorrow is our one and only AK day, so we'll need to make the most of it, so maybe early to bed?? Only time will tell.....
Day 4: August 24
Today is AK! I really like this park, but DH is the total opposite. He'd avoid it completely if given the choice (he's not... ), so I need to make the most of the day we have. None of us have ridden EE before, so we'll be heading straight there at rope drop (or whatever it is now!). I'd like to stay in the vicinity of Yak and Yeti since this is where we are having lunch (Yak Attack! Another first )with my BF and her family. So, we'll probably do Kali, MJT, and maybe Flights of Wonder (another new to us thing!).
After lunch, I'd like to try and get to Camp Minnie-Mickey during a Lion King show, see the characters, then head in to the next show. Last but not least, Dinoland! We can't come to AK without a visit to the hottest spot on earth. I mean....the Boneyard. Last time we were there, DH joined other dads in the 'waterfall' to cool off - poor kids never had a chance to get in there
Anything else we get to will be a bonus to me. Here's hoping it's not a lousy rainy day! (And now I've probably jinxed us....LOL!)
