Suggestions on where to travel this summer please - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Hi! Everyone,
I haven't been around much. We have been searching for a new place to live and have finally found one But we have til the 14th of Aug to keep ourselves busy. I need some suggestions.
We were thinking of heading to Spokane Washington, but from there, we don't know where to go. Should we go to Colorado??? What about Seattle??? (heard some nasty things about the crime rate in that area). We need an area to keep a very active 6 yr old busy. We always dreamed of traveling throughout the states, but now that reality has hit, and i have no time to plan it, I am feeling very overwhelmed. Any suggestions?????
We were in Seattle last September and loved it there. I'm sure every city has its crime hot spots, but we certainly saw nothing to worry us in the main tourist areas.
I can thoroughly recommend the Space Needle and the Aquarium and we loved the harbour cruise we took. I think all of those would be great for your six year old.
I've spent a lot of time in Seattle and I love it. The crime is very minimal compared to most other large cities and there are very few bad areas. I highly recommend the science center, a duck tour, Pikes Place market. Have you thought about going up to Paradise Lodge on Mt. Rainier? That is a favorite thing for our family to do.

Thank you Can anyone recommend a good hotel in Seattle that has a shuttle to Pikes Place Market and that area???
Does anyone have any ideas where to travel from Spokane???? We like places like South Dakota where there is a lot to do within a short distance. I would prefer not to go back that way although we love it there, we want to try someplace from Spokane and downwards or over etc.
From Spokane... I'd look into going over to Yellowstone. It's not too bad of a drive and it's one of my favorite places to be... right behind Disney! A hotel with a shuttle, that I'm not sure of. We've always had our own car.
If you go early in the morning to Pike's Place, it's not bad. Other places are easy to find spots, or we just did a lot of walking once we found a space. It helped when my brother worked near there, so we could just park in his parking garage, lol.
We stayed at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Convention Center, which was very well rated on TripAdvisor and we were very impressed with it. It doesn't have a free shuttle, but it's fairly close to the monorail and some of the major train/bus stops. I know they have a garage, but as we took our rental car back when we checked in, I don't know how much they charge.

despite the record heat, extremely dry conditions and numerous forest fires, there are still lots of places to see in Colorado.
The Denver Zoo just opened a new elephant area. That reminds me a lot of Animal Kingdom.
The Cheyenne Mtn Zoo in Colorado Springs has a really neat area where you can feed the giraffes.
Celestial Seasonings Tea company and Hammond's candies are two fun tours for young and old. Of course there is the Coors Brewery tour as well.
There are many fun things to do in the Mtns - Winterpark Ski Resort has an Alpine slide that is awesome! Buy your tickets in town at King Soopers, it's cheaper, almost 1/2 price. Glenwood Springs has a hot springs pool that most people enjoy. I cant' stand the sulfur smell of the water but the rest of my family loves it.
Not to mention the pretty mtn drives and hikes.
Thanks everyone!!! We are going to be living in B.C. So we want to take some time, while waiting for our house, to travel a bit. We have approx a mth. Sooooo this is why we are looking at places.
Any unique or smaller places in that area, that you think might be good????? We are open to suggestions. Don't want to do Victoria or Vancouver. We have been there numerous times. Just wish this wasn't during the height of tourist season. I don't really want to prebook. I know we are crazy

Will let you know what Seattle is like. that is the one city I am excited to go and see.
If you go to Seattle I would love to see the pictures. Is it true that it rains a lot there or is that true for Portland, Oregon?
The story is that it does rain a lot, but when we were there, it was brilliant sunshine and I remember on the harbour cruise, them saying that lots of other American cities get much more rainfall, but Seattle just has a reputation for getting lots of rain.
