Goin' Down the Bayou, a PTR ~ November 1-10 - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Tuesday will be our AK day, and we'll be there bright and early for an 8:05 am breakfast at Tusker House (another first for us!). Hopefully the good weather pixies will be with us this day, it always seems that we get shooed out of AK earlier than planned because of rain We've still got so much stuff in this park that we haven't seen , so we'll need lots of time!
Hopefully this time we'll get to do some exploring along the Jungle Trek and Pangani Forest trails, FOTLK and Finding Nemo the Musical are high on my list as well. Of course we will hit up some of our favorites like the Kilamanjaro Safari, EE and the character trails. Last year Abby was just shy of the 48 inch mark for Primeval Whirl and was really dissappointed Well, she was excited to find out at her last doctor appointment that she had hit that mark and then some! But now what am I going to use as motivation for her when she won't eat her veggies? So, of course, that is on our list too!
At some point in the afternoon we will make our way back to POR for a little rest, and then it's back to the MK for the evening. Tonight it will be dessert for dinner, as long as I am able to score a reservation for the Wishes Dessert Party. Does anyone know how far in advance they open up the dates for the party? I've checked online and called, but no one can give me an answer I'm thinking dates for November would open up late summer/early fall, does that sound about right?
131 Days to Go! I would do it. I would kiss a frog. I would kiss a hundred frogs if I could marry a prince and be a princess.~ Young Charlotte to Tiana
Up Next: Day 6 Plans, a Blizzard and some Relaxation
I agree AK and rain aren't my favorites either, so I hope the sun gods are on your side for bright beautiful day. We did Tusker House for breakfast once and thought it had great food and character interaction. I was told by a CM that the dessert party dates would open up in August, so sending some pixies that the date works out for you.

Great plans for AK. Good luck with the Dessert party Res. I tried to book for last October and never saw anything on line and I began at the 180 day mark and when I'd call nothing was open so I gave up and just figured they weren't doing it. But they did have it so I don't know when people booked it becuse I checked online from 180 days to just about 1 week before our trip and there was never anything open online.
Good luck - I would keep calling and not trust the Dessert Party online system.
We're hoping for a TT soft opening while we're down there, or an early re-opening. We'll keep our fingers crossed with you.
Coral Reef was Tyler's choice this trip, but he has no problems eating the fish in front of the tank. That's hysterical!
Congrats! Abby on hitting the PW height requirement. Just don't go on it right after you've had pulled pork from FTB...trust me.
Good luck with the Wishes Dessert Party. Let me know when you hear anything...I might actually look into that if there's stuff for the boys to eat.

AK is the only park that I don't like in the rain, I guess because so many of the attractions are outdoors. Any other park and I'll gladly get on my poncho and keep touring, but no thanks in AK Glad to hear good things about TH, I am really looking forward to it! I hope that CM was right about the November dessert party dates opening up in August

Good to know, I'll definitely keep calling instead of just relying on the online booking system. I'm sorry you missed out!

I don't think I want to know the story about the pulled pork and PW, I'll take your word on it and won't do it
I never thought of doing the dessert party because of Kaeli's allergy, I figured there wouldn't be much for her and it wouldn't be very nice of us to be pigging out on tons of things in front of her. Then I made a comment about it on a post last year, lots of people said that they are very accommodating to allergies there and will make up special plates. I contacted special diets about it, just to make sure before I make a reservation. I know that your boys have more allergies than us, but I'll let you know what they say!
This weekend is my get caught up on PTR/TRs weekend so here I go!
Thanks for your review of the GWL. I have been tempted to check out the one here in TX. I'm sure there are some differences between the two but they should be pretty similar. It seems it would be a cool place for a weekend get away!
That was awesome you ended up with an extra night at WDW because of the cheaper airfare. I'd take that trade off any day!
Your dining plans look delish and I will keep my fingers crossed for free dining during y'all's stay.
Loving your countdown quotes and the countdown calendars were a great idea. Funny how kids don't fight over certain things.
How sweet of Kaeli not to want to make the fish in the aquariums not feel uncomfortable by her eating fish in front of them. And then you mentioning she was apologizing to the ham for the pig. So adorable. She may decide to give up eating meat if its that concerning for her.

Gotta love the Disney math! I'm so glad we added the extra night, it looks like 11/1 is going to be the cutoff if they extend free dining so we'll just make it!
