Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Magic Kingdom or Disney Quest?

I'll be onboard the Norwegian Gem this coming February. We stop in Port Canaveral for a day. We'll be there on Tuesday the 28th. The boat should dock around noon and we have to be back onboard by 9pm.

In your opinion, is it worth it to go to the MK or should we just go to Downtown Disney and Disney Quest?

We should rent a car that day. The other option is to take the package that Norwegian offers, witch means transport by busses. We visited the Mouse in 2007 and 2009. I really want my Disney fix, but is it worth it for the price?

Transport should take about 1h each way, witch means we would have 6-7h tops in Disney. Need help!!!

To me, 6-7 hours in the park would not justify the cost of a one day ticket. I would stick to Downtown Disney, or even resort hopping instead of the parks. Maybe book a character meal at one of the resort restaurants for that Disney fix.

I agree with the idea of a character meal at one of the resorts. Not enough time to purchase a park pass. Downtown Disney just wouldn't do it for me.

We have never been to Disney Quest. If we feel like going on rides and doing a little shopping, would that work?
Even if it breaks my heart, I have to agree that 6-7h in the parks is not enough for the price.
Thanks for the suggestions. We've done lots of resort hopping in 2009, witch we loved and a character meal could be a good idea. We've done breakfast and lunch, but never done dinner...

I like the idea of a character meal. However, you may struggle to find one for lunch outside of the parks. I can't think of one off the top of my head. However, there's nothing to stop you visiting some of the resorts and exploring those and having a great non-character meal there.

Chef Mickey's is breakfast or dinner only, not lunch. They occassionally do lunch but that's only at the busiest times of the year - i.e. the middle of summer when all the schools are out and if they're offering free dining.

Anyone have experience with DQ? Would it be a good place to spend a 5-6h? My kids (10 and 8), would love to go on rides. I thought maybe that was the best way, without paying the price of a one day park ticket!?!

The only time I've ever been to DQ is in 2003. We spent about 4-5 hours here. I really liked the Virtual Pirates of the Carribbean and the Jungle Cruise simulator. There's lots of other things to do as well.

Don't forget the rest of Down Town Disney is available to you at no cost!

That's what I was thinking. 4 to 5 hours is enough to tour DQ and that would leave some time to explore Downtown Disney a little more and do a little shopping...
Thanks Jennifer!

I vote only go to DQ if you have an addon on your tickets -it is NOT worth the admission price.....ugh, noisy, crowded, old video games, just not worth it. It needs a seriosu update, the only reason we;'ve gone in the past was b/c of free extrsa on our tix, and my gaming guys got sick of it quickly......
I vote for a character meal at Chef Mickeys and resort tour then hitting DTD for a while if you can't justify the MK for one day.....

Are there other options besides coming into Orlando/WDW? What are they offering nearby the port? Kennedy Space Center? If, they offer KSC, I'd do that instead.

I agree with 6-7 hours not being enough to pay for a ticket. I like the idea of a character meal and then maybe some shopping in DTD.

We like DisneyQuest - I could ride the Pirates ride all day long! Those are "virtual" ride though, and not park rides. But they are still fun. When we went in 2009, when the CM came by and said it was 11 and they were closing, I honestly thought he was joking until I look at my watch. We never even made it to the Disney store. I could spend hours in that huge Disney store too, so maybe lunch and shopping would be better? Depends on your kids (and you).

I will say you said you have 6-7 hours is that minus the time ride to Disney and back to port ?
The reason I say this is that MK would totally be out of the ??
And as per DQ POTC is the best thing they have there maybe one or two other
I love it for the graveyard of old video games like frogger , mr.do , super PAC man , asteroids , and more this is where I stay the most or if they have any pinball games , it is a nice place to kill a few hours , but since I'm one person that still goes there they really need an up grade badly .This is why if it is an add on it is worth it but if not and I remember it is like 45.00 for anyone over 10years old .this is why people say it is not worth the trip ! If you have not did it it be be alot of fun or you might say is that it on the way back to port .
Good luck on choosing :0)

We were in the same situation but it is following our cruise we have 1 1/2 days until our flight home. Hmmmm.......what to do?

We decided to stay at the Poly (just LOVE this resort) but no park tickets - way to costly! So, we are spending our time resort hopping and DTD.

There is also Disney mini-golf (two courses) which is located up by the Swan/Dolphin Hotels as an option.

Have a fun trip!
