Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Adventures by Michele: The Grand Canyon Installment 3

Installment 3: A Few Changes and Updates

July 6,2012 - Fly from Columbus, OH to Las Vegas. Rent a car, and drive to Grand Canyon National Park.
Change of Plans: We will no longer be staying 1 night at the Bright Angel Lodge and Cabins.
Instead, we're booking a room for 3 nights at the Yavapai Lodge.
http://www.grandcanyonlodges.com/lodging-413.html
We'll stay in the room the first night, and return to it on the third night. On the second night, we'll stick with our plan and reservation at the Phantom Ranch. Huh?
Why the change? My husband remembers hiking out of the canyon with his dad many years ago, and having no where to shower or rest because it was hours before they could check into their lodge. By keeping our room, we'll have a place to go to clean up, cool off, and rest. Also, the El Tovar looks amazing, but we'll actually save money by staying at Yavapai. We'll probably visit El Tovar, and eat a meal there, but we couldn't really justify the cost of the room, especially since we won't spend a lot of time in the hotel.

July 7 -Leave the Yavapai Lodge (without checking out) and hike the South Kaibab Trail to the floor of the canyon. (7.8 miles, about 4.5 hours.)
Stay 1 night at the Phantom Ranch. I'll be alone in the Female Dorm, and Peter and Chris will be together in the Male Dorm.
www.grandcanyonlodges.com/lodging-704.html

July 8 - breakfast at 5 am, pick up sack lunches, and begin climbing the Bright Angel Trail to the rim. (9.5 miles, about 8 hours!)
Change of Plans: We'll return to our room at the Yavapai instead of checking into ElTovar.

July 9 - After we wake up and eat breakfast, we'll drive to the Havasu Canyon Trail Head. We will once again hike into the canyon, and see the breath-taking water falls.
Change of Plans: Instead of staying 2 nights at the Havasupai Lodge, we'll stay 1, and hike out the next morning.
http://www.havasupaitribe.com/lodge.html

July 10 - Hike out of the Havasu Canyon and drive to Las Vegas.
Change of Plans: Instead of staying 2 nights at Club 36, we'll stay 3 nights.
http://www.bluegreencorp.com/explore...px?ResortID=95
Why the change? The offer at Club 36 in Vegas is actually for 3 nights. We decided to save a little cash by staying a free night in Vegas, instead of a costly night in Havasu Canyon. We might live to regret this change. The waterfalls look amazing, but we feel like 2 days there might be too much. In addition to staying the night for free, we will have a kitchen and laundry facilities in our suite at Club 36. Even if I don't like Vegas, I can see the big attractions and then chill in our room with a good book.
I still have to arrange this with Club 36, but I was told that I could add the 3rd night at any time. We won't cancel the 2nd night in Havasu Canyon until I'm sure this will work out.

July 13 - Fly home. Sleep.

Installment 3: Addendum

Good news for us! We checked with Blue Green, and staying the 3rd night isn't a problem. We now have our 3rd night in Vegas confirmed. We still need to cancel the 2nd night a Havasupai Lodge, which should be easy.

Arrow Adventures by Michele: The Grand Canyon Installment 4

Very little to report at this time, but excitement is mounting!
I was able to cancel our extra night in Havasu Canyon, and I booked our flights on Southwest about 2 weeks ago. I'm glad I waited, because fares seemed to be on the rise for a few months, but then I checked them and they had dropped almost $100 per ticket!

Honestly, I've spent almost no time planning this trip since my last update in January. I assumed I would use snow days to do some research and write pre-trip report updates, but we had very little snow/winter in Southeast Ohio this year. In recent years, I've had 5-10 snow days with which to catch up on fun stuff like this, as well as closet cleaning and the like. This year we had only 1 snow day. In addition, I ran my second marathon 2 weeks ago and all of my leisure time seemed to go into training for the race. Though I didn't beat my finish time from my first marathon (in 2011) I gave it my all, and I'm proud of my effort.

Congrats on the marathon - I fully admire anyone who can complete one of those, never mind the time!

Sounds like you scored a good deal with the flights.

Just found your trip report. I have only been to the north rim (pioneer cabins) but I cannot describe the experience. It's like being in a postcard. Every where you look there is natural beauty.

That's good to know since we are will be staying there for 4 nights....looks pretty rustic but as long as there is a shower and a commode that flushes, I am good!

JuliB, When we stayed the pioneer cabins were very rustic but my understanding is that they have since been renovated. They are clean and a decent size. it was wonderful to be able to get up as the sun came up and walk to the rim of the canyon. We also had all kinds of wildlife just outside out door, including deer.

There wasn't television or internet when we were there and by the time we got to Springdale (after being at GC and Bryce), I thought my kids, who were never big TV watchers, were going to kiss the TV.

LOL! I am not that much of a TV watcher but I do love my laptop. I guess I will manage to do without it for a few days!
