The Good, The Bad and The Buggy - Nov 2011 TR - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Dinner at CG sounds like it was a success! I just love purple potatoes! Seeing the fireworks from Main St is amazing isn't it? You got some great photos of the Alice section of the MSEP!

We still did see the fireworks, just not from CG. But it was a great dinner and night overall.

Sunday 11/6/11 - Food Picture Warning - (but they are low light)
Again - up before the alarm. (don’t tell me I’m turning into a day person?!) We showered/dressed and had a cup of coffee while checking the weather. Then we headed over to the monorail. It’s easy catching it - just down to the 5th floor of BLT and across the Skyway bridge to the CR.
5 legged goat in the mural
We were off on our way to Kona Café for breakfast. I had to try Tonga Toast.
Frankly - I just don’t see what the big deal is. I make better French toast with homemade banana bread. Chuck had the Big Kahuna platter which he said was ok.
The pinapple pancakes that came with his looked good though. He got Kona pressed pot coffee and I got the juice. It was good - but not worth a repeat for us.
After breakfast was done, we headed out for the busses because we were off to AK. We got there around noon-ish and did quite a lot. FOTLK (we were giraffes)
and Rafiki PlanetWatch
and Kilamanjaro Safari
Then Chuck wanted a corn dog, so we found a cart. Sorry - no pics of the corn dogs. Chuck still didn’t want to ride EE and we opted out of Kali River because we didn’t want to be wet all day. We came back around toward the Oasis because we didn’t want to be stuck in the back of the park once the parade started. So we found a rock wall and got a Mickey ice cream and hunkered down for the parade. I did take pics of the parade with Chuck's camera because my battery was dying. Now for the life of me, I can't figure which memory card they are on. Sorry. Chuck also got a frozen banana and a souvenir bucket of popcorn. Yay for snack credits! BTW - corn dogs are not snacks nor are they meals. Hmmmm? We paid OOP for those. After the parade - another first for us - we left AK for the day and caught a bus back to BLT. It started to rain a bit so Chuck took a nap while I had a cup of tea, watched Beauty and the Beast on Family Channel and got on FB and the boards.
We had ressies for HDDR at 9:30 - Cat 1 seating. Around 8:30 we went to the boat dock to catch the boat over to Fort Wilderness.
BLT and CR from the boat - blurry because the water was choppy
It wasn’t too long but the water was a little choppy. We didn’t exactly know where we were headed but followed the masses. This was our first visit to the Fort and to HDDR. We were early - too early for the pictures just yet so we checked out the pin booth. Chuck has started to take up pin trading - oh boy! We bought some locking backs because there are a few pins he just doesn’t want to lose. We finally got our pictures taken (we didn't buy them though) and then everyone started to line up to go into Pioneer Hall. Chuck and I waited a bit for the line to shorten because we had a good seat on a bench out front. Finally went in to the Hall and we were seated - right up front.
They were good seats. We started out with corn bread and salad. Then they started the show and brought out the meal. Chicken, ribs, mashed tates, beans and corn.
Cornbread and salad
Fried Chicken
Ribs
Mashed potatoes
baked beans and corn
Strawberry shortcake
They just slammed the metal containers down on the table and kind of gave me a start. I really liked how they had the metal dishes and drinks in mason jars. Toward the end of the meal, they started picking people for the finale. No - Chuck was not picked. But the strawberry shortcake was yummy. All in all - a cute, corny show. I was very impressed at the improv ability of the players. Good talent! The food was full of carbs, starchy but stick to your ribs down home comfort food. It was very filling and very good. We had happy bellies and ready to call it a night.
After the show, we MAY have been able to catch the boat - last boat was at 11:00 but I wasn’t sure we could make it. And if we didn’t make it, I was afraid the busses they provided would be gone too so we just took the bus. Made it back to BLT and went off to bed. No alarm set for the morning - we were planning to sleep in!
Up next - another Epcot day (at least this one is a weekday)
Looks like a good day at AK, how was the parade? We've yet to catch that one, wondering if it's worth us sticking around for. Dinner looked good at HDDR, I haven't been there since I was a kid, but it still looks the same from what I can remember. I think a trip back is in order for me

Finding pics of the AK parade so Coop can post asap.
Hoop de Doo is probably one of those things that a true Disnephile(???) should do at least once, with or without kids. Not quite sure it's worth 2 dining credits, but the entertainment/dinner combo is why. OH btw,for all of you who detest "herding" you don't have to be first in line,or hurry to get your photo taken.Your place is reserved for you.We were nearly last, due to the fact I HATE being herded like cattle, and when we walked in we were seated near the front and had great seats for the show.
As we went to and from the parks, you could start to see the beginning of the Christmas decorations being put up.At times you don't really notice the change, then as you enter, say Hollywood Studios, you see the huge Christmas tree up,or the garland on the entrance gates. As I noticed more and more,I was actually getting excited to see the Osborne lights, but also a little sad,as I knew it would be our last night.
HDDR looks like a lot of fun! Glad you enjoyed your full bellies of food!
Sorry Kona wasn't the best, but at least you've tried it. That's how I feel...I know I won't always like the most popular places, but I still need to try them all out to decide for myself if I like it. That being said...I'm itching to go back so I can try some more restaurants!!!

The parade was great! I really liked how some of the floats were giant animals puppeted by people. I found the pictures and will post them so you can see. Dinner was good at HDDR. You should try it again!

It seems like I have a lot of AK pics - but that is my favorite so I'm partial.

Yep. I tried it. It was ok. It was filling but like I said - not worth a repeat for us. I do try to heed the advice of people here and it was highly recommended.

It is definitely worth a shot. We had a good time. The talent was good. The show was funny and the food was good. I would do it again. Probably not right away (because there are so many other places to try) but in the future.
