As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

You got a lot accomplished at MK...well except for getting something for lunch. We had a horrible experience at Cosmic Rays on our last day and I do not think we will eat there again unless they make some changes in the way they run things there.
I hope the next update will include a meal!
i honestly think that if i'd had a better plan (and not spent so much time just snapping photos) i really COULD have 'ridden everything' that day! but then it was a really, REALLY low crowd day, i was alone...and apparently EVERYONE ELSE was eating!

i am not even kind of kidding--i took over two dozen 'mickey halloween thing on the lamp post' pics just to get one good one. i LOVED that silly wreath!
Those pics are great! I love the Halloween decorations at the MK, they are so I do hope you find lunch soon, I too get the crankies when I haven't eaten, and well I know it's not pretty

Wow I hope you finally found your lunch--I'm so sorry that you didn't get your hot dog at Casey's--the new ones are really quite good! I love the MK all decked out for Halloween! Hope your last lunch ended up being wonderful! (BTW I, along with two other wonderful board members--managed to complete every ride at MK that was open that day and it took all day, even on a slow day. We started at 8am and didn't finish until just before the fireworks!)

and yes, the hot dogs at casey's looked REALLY good. i spent my time in line trying to figure out which one i wanted, as all three looked really good. there was a chicago style, a chili cheese, and something strange with pulled pork and coleslaw (which was the one i was leaning towards...so it's probably good that i couldn't have it, as it may have made me sick. plus they were HUGE!)
don't worry--i find food. just not in the most pleasant environment. i must get myself to the chiropractor right now but then i will finish...seriously this time!
Your pictures are just beautiful! I also love the MK at Halloween time - we've been there twice in the fall and those colours are the best! (course I still haven't done Christmas yet, so the jury must remain out for a while)
I am with you on the whole "I am here with my money - now come and serve me" being a big pet peeve of mine too! And, people, really.....the dining plan is not that complicated and they print tonnes of flyers that explain how to use it - what is the problem?????
Wow...I'm getting a bit worked up...a little grumpy myself today...missed lunch. Maybe I should head home and have dinner then come back on-line to see if you've posted again!

after the parade i decided to leave the park. i took a photo of the 'see ya real soon' sign over the exit--and frowned, because i didn't know when i'd be back next (more on this later...)
the plan for the rest of the day was to do a monorail resort tour--with camera. but i NEEDED to eat! i decided to start with the resort farthest from where my car was parked TTC...which is actually the resort closest to TTC, the POLY--because of the direction of the monorail. the plan was 'find lunch, take pics of POLY, continue to GF, stop, continue to CR, stop, monorail to TTC to car.'
i also decided that i'd take the boat to POLY, as i'd never done that before and it looked little and cute. there was only a short wait for the cute little boat--and i have to say i really enjoyed the little 'cruise'. i got some great pics of the GF from the lake.
i also really like puffy white clouds! the boat ride was VERY nice--and relaxing. but then i love boats. like to an abnormal degree.
i swear i was in better spirits when i arrived at the POLY...i really, really was. yes, i was still hungry...but i was calmer. and then i walked into captain cooks.
oh my goodness. i thought it would be empty, being a resort restaurant at 2:00 in the afternoon. um...no. it was packed with more confused diners. like VERY confused. so after watching several more people received the 'here's how the dining plan works' speech, i was finally able to pay for my pulled pork nachos. i do have to say that the ordering process here is much better than any other CS place i attempted (or managed to) dine at. you order from a little computer screen--so that was good.
oh--and the nachos were really good too. like really, really good. they were homemade-seeming chips that were VERY flaky and awesome...though half of them appeared to be potato chips (???) and i didn't eat those. but that was ok because it was HUGE. the pork was also good, and it was covered in this pineapple and red onion salsa that went so well with the pork (and, surprisingly, the cheese) i HIGHLY recommend the pulled pork nachos from captain cooks.
i'm honestly hungry just thinking about it!

...i decided i was now tired (all those carbs, after all!) and headed out to the monorail. it was around this time that i realized what i needed to do--i needed to be in air conditioning somewhere quiet. so when the monorail stopped at the GF, i didn't get off. i rode it all the way back to TTC, and when the little voice over the speaker system said 'if this is your last stop here in the magic kingdom, we hope you had a magical time...' i realized that it WAS, in fact, my last stop.
there's nothing more exciting to tell, as the rest of my trip consisted of laundry, packing, and driving to the airport. though i do have to say that i loved having a washer and dryer in the condo--i came home with my clothes already washed and ready to hang back up!
you should note that i did freely decide to leave WDW five whole days early--i flew out on a saturday but was scheduled to stay until thursday. i ended up spending 15 days in the world--not 20. why? i explained it here, on my blog...
...i hope that will make some of you understand why anyone would decide to leave the happiest place on earth even one minute early. it wasn't WDW, it was the amount of time i'd spent there.
but of course now i'm sad, because i don't know when i'll be back next! however...i was looking at crowd calendars the other day (for a friend--i swear!) and there's really only one 'good' week to return that makes sense for me and my research. and as i probably will 'have to' go back sometime before finishing my book, i just spent the last half hour looking up flight prices for the first week in december. oh and there's availability at POP, too. i checked THAT out as well! though i need to call to see about an AP rate! of course, nothing is booked. yet. but you can all feel free to place bets on how long it will take me to book that trip!
Glad you finally got some food! Sorry that the trip is all over! Looking forward to your final thoughts (and the details on your December trip!)
it's becoming more and more ok that the trip is over. this is directly related to the direction the december trip is taking. those betting should really LOWER the number of days that it will take me to book another trip. possibly consider wagering HOURS instead of days.
my husband is currently sitting across from me, holding a pen and my old passporter. he's starring restaurants. this may end well.
