Wait!!! Wasn't this supposed to be a weekend trip? TR COMPLETE 11/2 - Page 20 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Whew! That was some evening! I am so glad that the Duffy incident and the missing Angel incident were both resolved peacefully!
Okay, your running conversation at La Hacienda was absolutely priceless. I could just hear Jasmine interjecting every so often with her practical thoughts on the matter. Her recounting the demise of her baby blanket was the topper.
And tell Jasmine that the same thing happened to me with mole sauce. It sounded good, but when I finally broke down a few years ago and tried it at our local Mexican restaurant I couldn't even eat it (thank goodness for chips, salsa and margaritas).
Ah, the joys of motherhood! I'm just glad everyone was ok in the end, including Duffy's twin! I "lost" my daughter for about 10 seconds at DL when she was about 5 or so...it was the longest 10 seconds of my life! I can't imagine what you were feeling when you couldn't find Angel.
You know, a part of me knew she was ok and if I had just stopped to breath I would have realized that. I think I was more nervous because I thought she never got into the room and that she had been wandering alone for 20 minutes.

She is really attached to her Duffy, not sure if it was because I brought it home for her from the one trip where I went without her or what, but she has slept with Duffy curled up in her arms every night...and when I saw her so upset, I as shocked that she just knew it wasn't hers.

It was definitely a rollercoaster day...thankfully there was no more drama for the rest of the trip.

Love the Duffy story and I can just see Angels beautiful eyes filling up with water ad I know it broke yur heart....but awesome CM to the rescue....love the idea of the twin!
Must be a teen thing because AJ is capable to doing plenty half asleep and remembering none of it....glad Angel was never truly lost!
Danielle
If it is a teen thing I would love to know when they grow out of it still do not know how she totally forgot that her sister ever came back to the room - guess I should be thankful that at least when she opens the door in her sleep it was not to a total stranger

Kate was amazing and Angel...well it definitely took a while for me to calm down. We talked about it the next day and I explained to her that I know she knew her way around the resort, and that I know she is getting bigger and that I would have been fine with her meeting me in the lobby but that next time she should call me or text me as that is why she has a cell phone. I think she got more scared seeing me so worried because for the rest of the trip she stuck close and if she did want to go see something in the store or something she reported every move to me.

Glad everything worked out. Your Duffy story makes me want to fill out an appreciation card for Kate as well!!! Where does Disney get these people???? Do they drug them? Is it mind control?? I really don't care as long as they keep it up. Simply amazing.
Kate was amazing, don't know how she came up with that story so quickly but it really saved the day.

Now looking back I know she was ok, she knows what to do if she was lost, it was just that moment of her not being in the room, and it was dark outside....I was so happy when I turned and saw her (then of course I wanted to shake some sense into her )

Thanks Kim, it was definitely a wild day.

I told Jasmine about what you said about mole sauce and she smiled and said "at least it is not just me".
Jasmine's practical thoughts can be hard to handle at times...she has always been "an adult" stuck in a kids body, much more literal, not much into the innocence of being a child. Not a bad thing...just scary at times. Angel on the other hand, well she is a kid at heart so at times it can get a bit sticky as they are both so different. In the end though she was a good sister and when she saw how happy her sister was she was happy.

When I look back I think it all happened in the matter of 5 minutes but it was a scary 5 minutes, just wished I had taken the time to look in the lobby during my first run through....it would have saved me some panic time

Jasmine felt really bad later...she said she really did not remember her coming in, guess when she is tired she is tired. I explained to Angel a quick call on the cell phone would have allievated the whole problem...of course she did not think about that before she went to look for me.
Before the trip I had asked the girls to look at both WP's to see which one they wanted to do on our "next" trip. I really thought they were going to chose BB as we had done TL last year but in the end they both wanted to head back to TL.
Now that Angel knew that the "next" trip was now I asked the girls again if they wanted to head back to TL or try BB, but they both still wanted TL (as they both wanted to swim with the sharks).
We slept in a bit, I think we all started moving around 8, we headed down for a snack at the Mara and we had a discussion about last nights events,Jasmine apologized for not remembering that her sister came in, and I explained to Angel that I know she is growing up but that she has a cell phone for a reason and if she had just called me first I would have been fine with her coming to the lobby as I could have been waiting. With that out of the way we were at the bus stop around 9:15 and today we had our longest wait of the trip (maybe 15 minutes at the most). Angel stopped to pose while we waited.
There was only us and other family and we picked up a few families at Kidani and soon we were off.
I decided that since I already had my AP and we were only planning one water park this trip I would just use the DVC / AP discount for tickets, once that was taken care of we headed in. We got some cute pictures on the photopass and I will add those in as soon as I get the CD (I ordered it yesterday so hopefully it will be here sometime during the week).
Angel stopped to pose before we headed for some fun.
Angel had been asking for googles so we stopped at the store to purchase a locker and her googles. With the purchases we headed and searched for our locker, droppd off our stuff and headed off. We found a chair on the left side of the wave pool, near the little kid slides. It was the perfect spot as there was a lazy river entry entrance right behind us and the other slides were on the side of us. We dropped off our stuff and the first thing the girls wanted to do was the lazy river.
Now Angel has really improved in the swimming department and she wanted to swim the lazy river...so while she did have a tube here and there, she swam more then she floated. She was having a blast as she kept reeling Jasmine and I in if we floated to far from each other...and it there was bottlenecking she helped us get through. She also saved the day as a little girl had floated to far from her family and began to cry so Angel helped stop her from floating until her parents made their way over
We made out way around the river twice and then the girls wanted some slides. Now Jasmine (who finally realized she enjoys water slides last year) does not like enclosed spaces so she did not want to do the body slides which was fine with me (as I do not have fond memories of body slides ever since a not so nice slide at the Haunted Mansion in Long Branch when I was about 12 - see it was a bad slide as it still haunts me now ), so we headed to the falls. First we hit Keelhaul Falls, after a great trip we headed over to Gang Plank Falls, now the wait time was posted for 15 minutes but it was longer...but we were just talking and laughing and on the way down soon enough and the girls were ready for Mayday Falls. I rode first with Angel second and then Jasmine (as she wanted one of us in front of her and one behind her)...she was hysterical as all those little speed bumps, not sure but the kids ended up coming down backwards. We all had a great time and we decided to head over to the wave pool for a bit as the lines for the slides were getting abit long.
Jasmine took some sun and made friends with an older gentlemen from the UK, they were deep in conversation and Angel wanted to do the "kid slides" that are right on the side of the wave pool so I sat and watched her do that for a bit.
The kids wanted more fun so we headed over to the shark reef, there was a 40 minute or so wait and suddenly Angel was nervous about doing this so I asked Jasmine if she wanted to do it but she said there was no reason to wait she would do it another trip and we decided instead of walking back around we would take the easy route and we headed back to the lazy river.
A cool breeze started to give us a chill as we made our way around to our exit and the sky was getting a little overcast but you could see the sun trying to break through so we headed back to the slides again. Forgot if we did Keelhaul or Mayday, it was whichever had a shorter line and then Jasmine wanted to relax for a bit so Angel and I headed to the wave pool. We were in there for a bit when I felt like someone splashed me...but when I felt the splash again I knew it wasn;t someone splashing but instead these massive raindrops hitting the pool
The sun was coming through so most of the people stayed where they were but something told me to get out of dodge quick so I grabbed Angel, Jasmine was already getting out stuff and we made out way to the lockers. The rain was getting harder but the sun was still breaking through so we grabbed a snack to decide what we wanted to do.
People were heading in (I felt bad for those guests coming in just as it started raining) but after discussing it with the girls they both felt like we did all we really wanted to do, we could have stayed and enjoyed the wave pool a bit more but they were fine heading back to the resort so we got our stuff, returned our key and made our way out of the park.
The rain was still coming down until...we got to the bus stop and it stopped, and the sun came through and I said to the girls "we could have stayed, do you want to head back in" but they said no, they were fine with our decision and boy was I glad because as soon as we headed on the bus.....the skies opened up and as we were driving off Angel said, "look mom, guess the Typhoon came back to the Lagoon"
A typhoon it was. It was torrential rains, so bad that as we were driving the splash from the bus tires were hitting the windows like huge waves. While we were on the bus the driver who was talking to another driver who was on the bus got word that both water parks were being closed. I am so glad we missed the mass exodus.
The strangest thing was as we got closer to AKL the skies brightened and it was dry when we got back. The rain had not even made it to us yet (I knew it was hitting Universal as my sister had texted to say it was pouring). When we got back to the resort we started to get a few drops but the "typhoon" never materialized.
Angel wanted the pool but they had closed it I guess as a precaution for the storm that never made its way here so while we waited for the pool we headed over to the Mara as suddenly we were all starved.
Up Next: Afternoon fun at the pool and an amazing dinner

Wow, that was a lot of drops on ToT. Sorry about the "pop" but at least you got to ride it once.
What a great day at the pool too! We don't normally take breaks but I think we are going to try this trip.
And you certainly had quite an emotional day at Epcot! What an amazing CM to help out with the Duffy situation. And that 'lost child' chill and knot in your stomach...nothing like it! Even if it's only for a moment, it feels like forever! Glad it all worked out.

Sounds like a fun day at TL! I haven't tried the water parks yet (since we're all wimps and are afraid to travel to Florida in the summer ), but I really want to try it someday!

Thanks for posting info about TL. I have yet to do a water park at Disney. I feel your pain about Long Branch! I grew up in NJ and my only memories were of the Jersey Shore slides and horrid memories of Action Park in Vernon (now Mountain Creek). Scarred me for life, even when I lived around the corner from Six Flags I would only go to the ride park never the waterpark. Same goes for Dorney Park.
I think it's about time to visit a Disney waterpark and I'm still on the fence but your post is kinda pushing me into the direction of yes!! Hopefully it will be warm enough in October!

Glad you had a great time at TL, despite the shortened day due to the rain!
It was a great day, but I was ready to go. I love the water parks but a few hours is enough for me so when the rain came it seemed to come at the perfect time.

We never really took breaks either, now I cannot see a trip without them, not every day but I really think it made the trip feel more relaxed, yet we still got to do everything we wanted but we did not have that exhausted feeling when the trip was over.

I always said I would never go in the summer, it really surprised us that it wasn't that bad...sure it is hot and humid but the summer lets us have longer trips, and the heat...well it gives us a reason to really stop and take time to enjoy the resort and the pool.

I think you should definitely go. I don't like Dorney and like you said....nightmares still remain from Mt. Vernon but we really enjoy the water parks at Disney.

It was a nice relaxing morning and a change of pace from the parks, definitely a must do during the summer trips.
Love your morning at TL...I agree it is a great way to escape the summer heat and humidity....like a mini vacation within your vacation. So glad you escaped before the skies opened up.
Looking forward to what the evening holds.....
