The Two Week "Mini" Disney Vacation - Page 12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Good luck at work with the full moon, Coop. for a not too crazy and quick passing of time, so you can get to burn out day!
One more day Sparkly Toes! Then burn out day and I think some list making myself!

Yeah - I was the one with blisters! And I wore broken in shoes - it was just that our room was sooooooo far away.

First of all: I love your writing style. It's like I'm having a conversation with you, and that's one of my favorite styles. Great job! Secondly, I am glad Meg is on the mend. She really is a beautiful dog. I've always wanted a golden retriever...But I live in an apartment, so that'll have to wait! I'll try to stay caught up this time, I promise I am glad you like my writing. I've never done this before and have been very self conscious about it. It means alot that you like it. Thanks. I HAVE been following your PTR. You NEVER have to apologize kiddo. I do understand what you are going through - BTDT. And I can let you know that you CAN come out on the other side (I did)
LOVE the thing about dogs answering the phone but cats letting it go to voicemail. All your kitties are beautiful! David is allergic, so I miss having them around. Your older kitty's picture just screams: I AM QUEEN! Love her attitude! Doesn't it just? And she is!
I don't know why, but reading that made me tear up a little bit. Your love for each other is so apparent in the way you write about him and it's very sweet.
Like I told Sparky - Ain't it sickening? But it's how you and David are!

Glad to hear you have a night off finally. I don't think you need underwear if you don't plan to leave your room the whole time! Otherwise, if you want to go commando that's fine with us! Just don't wear white shorts, mmmkay?
I like cushionny! I go commando with my socks at WDW, I am a crocs girl!

You are so right about the lunatics. Luna (moon). I knew that!
I can't wait to see your lists!
Like I said, not sickening...really cute! Jess and David are real sweet together too, your right!
Coop is hard at work, and I have an unbelievable second night off.Too far away to think of anything for our trip, just got a few things crossed off my "chore" list tonight. I did find my small pocket reading glasses, for menus and such.I can usually see everything but print with them off. I did see some cool T's that I would wear on the trip, but I think we're only there for 10 days,so I don't really need T's for a month, HAHA. Did read some cool things on "Chip and Co." if you want to do some Disney reading, and some recent history,it's a cool website.I think they go back to 2009.Coolest thing today: Monsters Inc. ride??? maybe.

I read about that too. I follow CHip & Co. on fb. It sounds super cool. I love the Laugh Floor at MK, SO funny! But I would love to see more from that movie, it's one of my faves!
The only way you would need that many shirts is if you changed them half way through the day, 10 X 2.
Glad you had a nice relaxing night off!
. Warning: I will definitely be doing the food porn pictures for my TR.
Can I be the first to say "yay!!!" [/QUOTE]
Yes you can!

I will pick him up some underwear. Nobody has to worry. Like I said - we are NOT commando tourists!
You caught that - (lunatics). So true though! Lists will be coming up soon!

That "honey do" list is never ending is it? Where were your glasses THIS time?

Everyone says Chuck sounds like Sully (John Goodman)! And hey there - Ms Sparkly Toes - don't give him any ideas. He will have us running back after lunch just so he can change his clothes and socks!
Another work week done! Let the burn out day commence! I’ve had worse full moon weekends so I can’t really complain but thanks for all the pixies!
List making has started! Actually it started a while ago.
The major stuff:
Resort - BLT - 11/3-11/14 - paid with DVC points
Annual Passes - paid - (will pick up and activate when we arrive)
MVMCP - paid - (have already rec’d those in the mail)
Wild Africa Trek - paid (soooo looking forward to this! - this is our birthday present to each other)
Deluxe Dining Plan - paid (we will still have a lot left over even after our ADR’s!)
Lunch with an Imagineer - reserved (this is OOP and had to be reserved with my travel card)
Minor stuff - yet to get
Tanks, t’s and new underwear (for Chuck too!) Maybe some jeans. The hard part about buying clothes is that we are both dieting and may be a different size come Nov (hopefully!). Also right now, I am “in between” sizes which makes it more difficult. If I lose enough - I won’t have to get new jeans because I already have my “skinny” jeans - LOL. That is my goal! We already have shoes.
The car holder for the cell phone/GPS
Travel shampoo, soap, toothpaste etc. We have a container that is about the size of an Owners Locker and we were going to fill it with this type of stuff (the stuff that we would leave in a real Owners Locker) as a trial to see if we came up with enough to justify getting one. (did that make sense?)
We already bought new luggage (with wheels). After last year’s lugging our stuff halfway around AKL because we were at the very end of the Kudu Trail. And these fit perfectly into the Mini - we already tried!
Financials-
I’m not sure if I explained financials to you all. We have two different “piggy banks” . One gets a couple hundred dollars per pay - period. Then we each get an “allowance” of $200 per pay. This pays for going out to eat, gas for our cars, any extras that we may want/need. Then at the end of the pay period, what is left over from our allowance goes into the second bank. For example -I get $200 but have to buy $40 worth of gas. Then BFF and I go out to dinner for another $40. Then I get a pedicure for $50 and buy something from Avon for $20. I then have $50 left to put in the piggy bank. It’s fun. Sometimes challenging but we like to see who can put more in at the end of two weeks. (It really makes you aware of where your money is going.) DH wants to continue this even after our trip. (We used to do this with $100 each per pay but gas prices went up!) We also have a travel card, which is basically a MasterCard that is like a credit card but is prepaid.
Like I said above - almost all the major stuff is paid for already. We just need to save for souvenirs, tips (and any alcohol I may have - DH doesn’t drink at all), extra treats from F&WF, the Lunch with an Imagineer (which is about $150). Also need to save for travel - hotel, gas and food on the way down and back from the World(that will be what we use the funds from the second bank for)
One of these times we will be able to go down and not have to buy a whole new wardrobe or all of these extras! Sheesh - it seems like a lot! Does everyone do this? (buy new everything for the trip)
It’s too early for packing lists etc. This is just an overview. Any comments/suggestions? Anything I’m forgetting? Right now I’m just treading water. Waiting till it gets closer and we can plan the packing, etc. 78 days! Still counting - still dancing!
I this quote! “There is a natural hootchy-kootchy motion to a goldfish.” - Walt Disney
I will pick him up some underwear. Nobody has to worry. Like I said - we are NOT commando tourists!
You caught that - (lunatics). So true though! Lists will be coming up soon!

@ we are not commando tourists! I like that!
I John Goodman! him! Sorry about the shirts, if you were going in July or August that would probably be a great idea...heat sweat. But I think you will be fine in November.
I only buy what I absolutely have to when I go. But don't worry about it, I have read where tons of people on here buy all new stuff to go. I just don't have it to do, the money is going to WDW itself. KWIM?
Glad to hear you have finished with work and are on burnout day.
Don't know how I missed this PTR, and then when I found it I wanted to make sure I had ample time to read it (so the boss left at 3:30 for vacay - it was time to start reading). Congratulations on the DVC!!! Love the plans, what wonderful ADRs and I love that you have time in there to just relax and take a breather, it so makes the vacation so much better. Once we started to realize we would be heading back each year the commando style of touring really ended...we still have some commando days but we also have those wonderful, whatever we feel like doing days and they are the best.

for continued saving! 78 days and counting!
I do know what you mean. I just wish I could get to the place where we don't NEED new jeans, shorts, t's etc (usually because of weight changes)

- and that you waited for the boss to leave to read! We learned last year that we like having "downtime". Those days to us end up being the best times!
