Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

It sounds like y'all had another great day! You have a great writing style and as I'm reading it's almost like I'm touring right along with you.

Thanks for sharing your trip with is, can't wait to read more.

P.S.-I think McDonalds is still using the "I'm loving it!" slogan.

Oh... one thought about Star Tours came to mind... If you sit all the way in the back, and in the middle (you CAN ASK!!) you are least likely to suffer from the motion sickness! I can do the loop-de-loop roller coasters with out a problem, but the simulator rides get me EVERY TIME! I have learned to ask for the middle of the last row and that seems to work out best!

Thanks Olive - she was really happy that night. The whole day was just really, really good. We had a character breakfast, we did the Studios, we left after she won TSM, she had swimming time and then another charcter meal

Thanks Laurie. I love it when Abby's not shy with the characters and will actually talk to them and interact with them. I'm sure the people inside the costumes are use to it and take it in stride but it does make it more fun when Abby "participates"

Thank you so much April - I'm glad you like how I write my TR's. I try to write them with lots of info while trying not to be too boring - and I'm guessing I'm succeeding with it. I'm going to post more today so you won't have to wait too much longer for more.

It was Cheryl - and it actually makes me glad I didn't cancel the meal. This was the one meal I was concerned about way back before we even left thinking that we might not even want to go to it. Time wise, everything worked out that day so we could go to it and it was a nice way to end the night.

Really - sit in the back in the middle? I would think that would be a rougher ride. I suppse I could try and ask the next time just to see. Karen, I give you credit for being able to do the loop de loop coasters. There was one years ago at Busch Gardens I use to love (I forget the name and I think it's actually gone now) and when we went to Canobie Lake Park a couple of years ago, they had one very similar I couldn't wait to get on. Needless to say, once on, I couldn't wait to get off because I couldn't take it - it made me so, so dizzy. So now I'm very coaster shy - as much as part of me says "yeah, new coaster, let's try it" the other part of me thinks "get on and get dizzy - I don't think so" (and that's the side that noramlly wins out.)

Monday July 25 Part 1

Monday morning I woke up at 5 am to do laundry once again. I hate getting up that early but if I want to get a washing machine, it’s what I have to do. I did however take Lenny’s suggestion from the night before. Once I started the wash, I went back to the room and crawled back in bed with my timer set (I use a digital timer for timing the loads). When that went off, I went back to the laundry room, saw two people sleeping on the floor (there were other machines in use this time so I have to think they were waiting for their laundry) and quickly put my stuff into the dryers. I again went back to the room and crawled in bed a second time . When the timer went off again, I went back to the laundry room and started folding anything that was dry. By the time I was done with that, everything was dry so I finished up the rest, put everything in my bag and headed back to the room yet again. This time however I plopped the bag of folded laundry on the chair, set the alarm clock for 8 and went back to bed for more than a quick snooze .

At 8 when the alarm went off , I was still tired but I got up for the day and got ready. When I was done with that, I washed up all our mugs and started putting the clean mugs and some clean towels on the scooter for the day. At 9, I woke Lenny up but Abby woke up on her own for a change. We didn’t have any breakfast planned this morning so Lenny and Abby ate the Cheerios we had bought at Walgreens. I ran to the food court to get something for myself and we just took our time eating and getting ready to go.

We were finally out of the hotel about 10:45 and on the way to Epcot - our park for the day - I got the bright idea to go play mini golf . This is one of those things we try to do on our arrival day but because of our HDD ADR, we never got the chance to get there and I promised Abby we would do it sometime on vacation. The present seemed like a good time to me and everyone agreed. We headed to Fantasia Gardens and the bright idea of a few minutes before quickly turned into a complete nightmare. I wasn’t going to keep score but Lenny insisted we should when he got a hole in one (both mistakes - the hole in one and keeping score). Abby then noticed I was keeping score and she wasn’t happy when she noticed she was losing but I told her she’d do well if she took her time and focused. Then we got to hole 6

and Abby had a lot of difficulty with it. Instead of hitting her ball up and to the left, she kept hitting it so it went up and to the right. She got extremely frustrated and Lenny lost his patience and I was really trying to keep everyone calm. That didn’t happen though. Abby ended up screaming and crying in frustration , Lenny turned into a raving lunatic who refused to calm down and listen to reason. I obviously no longer enjoyed the game and although I tried to get Abby to calm down and continue, Lenny’s refusal to do the same thing kept her going. It finally got to the point Lenny walked off the course and Abby walked by a bunch of greens just to get to the very last one. I was not a happy camper in the least . And to make matters worse, once Abby and I got back to the car, Lenny kept going on and on saying Abby needed to be punished, that she didn’t deserve to go to a park for the day and that he was taking us back to the hotel. I had several comments to him but basically the only family friendly one I had for him was "fine, we can go back to the hotel but know this. I’m going to take Abby, wait for a bus and go to a park without you. I don’t pay several thousand dollars for a Disney vacation to sit in a hotel room for the day. Abby doesn’t deserve to be punished because she doesn’t understand how to vent her frustrations like everyone else does." On that comment, instead of going straight at the traffic light we had come to, Lenny took a right hand turn and headed towards Epcot. While the rest of the day went smoother with no more meltdowns or raving lunatics on my hands, I was just so emotionally drained I was almost wishing I had kept my mouth shut and let Lenny go back to the room.

So after everything that happened, we were finally at Epcot around noon time. We got into the park and had a quick photopass picture taken despite the fact smiling for a camera was the last thing I wanted to do. After a quick stop at the restrooms, we stopped at the Innoventions building on the right. I had learned there were 4 new pennies in there and with Abby recognizing the KP characters because of our "missions" last year, I figured they were worth getting. We were going to get a pass for KP too but Abby changed her mind saying she didn’t want to do that this year . I was fine with that and asked her what she did want to do. Abby’s answer was Soarin so we headed to the Land. Once there, we headed downstairs for Soarin but we saw a new coin machine there (I knew it was somewhere in the area anyway). We got those coins then got in line for Soarin. As always, we enjoyed the ride, even me in my state of mind. When we got off though I decided since we all take turns choosing something to do, my choice was going to be get something to eat. I wasn’t hungry for a huge meal but I did need a little something because I didn’t feel 100%. We went over to Sunshine Seasons and nothing really appealed to me so I ordered what I figured would at least get eaten - one of the turkey sandwiches from whatever counter I got it at. It came with one tiny scoop of potato salad and we got a bag of chips and 2 sodas to go with it. Abby wasn’t hungry for a regular lunch so I let her get a vacation lunch - a huge M&M cookie, a bag of Doritos and an orange soda . I know I ate some of the sandwich and had some of the chips but I have no idea whether I liked it or not. At the time for me, it was just something to fill the empty spot, not something to be enjoyed .

When we were done we headed to Living with the Land because Abby wanted to ride it. Last year I felt the ride was boring, this year for some reason it was interesting again. Maybe because there were lots of fruits and vegetables to see. Whatever the reason , I enjoyed it this year. When we were done riding that, Abby didn’t want to do Soarin again or go see the Circle of Life movie so we left the pavilion and went to Imagination. No matter how many times we go on this ride, I don’t like it any better. Thankfully the ride doesn’t take too long and soon we were in Imageworks - what there is of it nowadays I should say. There is something new there though. Over on the left as you exit the ride area, there used to be a large camera on the wall. Now it’s a light up wall that if you approach it and touch it, it turns into a Simon game (follow the sequence of colors game, KWIM?). I played that for a minute and Lenny and Abby joined in to help but then Lenny touched the wrong color so the game was over. I didn’t want to play a new one so I wandered away to see what Abby was doing. She played with the musical Figments for a few minutes then she wandered over to Lenny who actually was able to get one of those computer screens for a change . I don’t know if it’s because Kodak pulled out or not but instead of the computers taking your picture that you can dress up and email, now you make your own Figment and email them. So Lenny and Abby were happily playing together at that, I just wandered and then started talking with a CM about different things for a few minutes. When Lenny and Abby finally came over, I wished her goodbye and after purchasing a couple of little souvenirs (a pin, a keychain and a postcard), we headed back outside. I have no idea how hot it was this day - either I didn’t check or I didn’t write it down - but just like the rest of the trip, it was hot. We hadn’t done much either but I was surprised by how late it was - it was close to 3 pm. That meant we only had about 45 minutes before we had to head to dinner.

Hoping the line wasn’t long, we opted to take this time to check out the Disney Visa M&G. Unlike the last time we were there when we were stuck in line for 45 minutes (with Abby getting increasingly upset as time went on), we were in the line maybe 10 to 15 minutes if that. We went in and for whatever reason I was expecting Minnie and Goofy but this time we got Mickey and Pluto. Pluto was so off the wall I made a comment about him having way too much coffee or being Goofy in disguise. The Photopass photographer heard me and said, "yes, today we have Ploofy." He kind of was a nut constantly pretending to lick Abby and just the different poses we saw him do with the family in front of us and with us as well. It was fun and we got all a bunch of photos.

On our way out however, Pluto wanted a last hug from me but when he hugged me, he did it really tightly . I didn’t like it and it actually made me feel uncomfortable. He finally let me go and we quickly left there and went to the other Innoventions building for some more pennies I knew about. After getting those, we headed to the Seas With Nemo and Friends. Abby really wanted to get into here but we only had enough time to ride the Clammobiles before dinner. I promised Abby when we were done with dinner, we would go back there and spend more time so she was fine with doing the one thing before going back to the Land to check in for dinner.

End of part 1, be on the lookout for part 2

You're not kidding - I always thought Golf was a quiet sport - not that day it wasn't . For the most part, I did enjoy Epcot but the morning definitely didn't have me enjoying it as much as I probably could have.

Looks like you had a good time at Chef Mickey's. Sorry mini golf wasn't all that fun, but at least Epcot was enjoyable.

Glad the your time at Epcot was enjoyable, even after the mini golf nightmare! Sounds like you might be heading to Garden Grill for dinner? We will be trying it for the first time November, looking forward to what you have to say about it.

Im sorry your mini golf didnt go well. When its hot and people are tired its so hard not to get upset over the littlest things. There always has to be one sane person in the group and it sounds like you get that job. At least Epcot went more smoothly for you. I agree with another poster that I love the why you write. It flows so smoothly.

Sorry about the golf. I'm glad you were able to salvage the rest of the day. I can't wait to hear about Garden Grille, definitely thinking of trying it on our next trip. My husband and I ate there on our honeymoon for breakfast, liked it then, but that was a long time ago

Sorry your day started with the fiasco of a mini-golf game, but the time at Epcot seems to have slowly brought a change in attitude. I'm not crazy about the Imagination ride these days, either. Nice photos with crazy "Ploofy"!

It sounds to me like he might. Plus too, I have Lenny in the background telling me (yet again ) that 60% of the male population is colorblind, with the majority of them having red-green colorblindness. That's they type Lenny has and while he can sometimes distinguish shades of certain colors, there's other times he just has no clue - about the colors I mean
That is my dh! Sometimes he will tell me the exact color it is, and then others he may say a totally different color but he SWEARS he is not color blind. LOL

So glad you had another wonderful day, and that you ended up back at the resort so that you were able to realize your meal time was different than you thought, and I loved the towel animals and stuffed animals placed in the windows. My dd's LOVE it when mousekeeping does little touches like this! It was nice that the time change allowed for you all to take a swim before dinner to unwind. My dd's did this everyday on our last trip and we all really enjoyed the little break for dinner. I'm also glad you had a great experience at CM (aside from your server having no personality). The server we had on our last trip was the same, except she delivered HORRIBLE service too. We got drink refills once and my youngest dd even held up her glass an called really loud (which really is unlike her, but she was so thirsty) "You who...and whatever her name was (can't remember)". She stood around talking to another CM the entire time. We finally got the refill when we were about to leave. It was so unlike our previous visits. The servers really can make all the difference. So I'm glad at least yours filled up your drinks!
