As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Okay, I'm rolling from Abby and her bucket list! And I have to say, if "High five a tumble monkey" is one of the entries on it, I'm really curious about what else is there. I'm thinking it's much more awesome than my list! Sounds like a fun day at DHS!

Just got caught up again. Sounds like a great day at HS. My DH is the same way with rides like Star Tours, he rode the simpsons at US and we actually had to leave shortly after. I love all the different smilies (I think I spelled that right) you use, If you don't mind my asking where do you find them?
I'm so glad you had those 2 awesome days!!! sounds like Abby had a blast and i just bust out laughing here at work about her and her bucket list check mark, i can absolutely imagine it and i'm sure she looked to cute doing it
i agree with you about play areas, they make me a nervous wreck and fortunately/unfortunately i haven't been brave enough to let DD play in one (she's 4 so i'm still super paranoid) much to hubby's dislike, but oh well!
i went back and checked on the new smiley and LOVE him!!! and you're right it does represent what you were saying better
awesome TR! It's clear you're having a fantastic time! Glad you held it together when Abby decided to hide, and you still had the patience to let her win! I love watching the kids when they don't know you're looking.
What a great day you had! I love eating breakfast at Cape May! I am so glad that the chef was able to make you some things to eat!
I can't believe how much you were able to see and do at the Studios! And riding TSM three times! Wow!!! That is great! I am glad that Abby won the last round!
Love the new smiley on the first page! The one over looking the wall was cute, but I can actually picture the airport and your mom's face trying to peek around the partion! The new one is great!
I know they have a CM near the exit to HISTK but I've never actually seen a child trying to leave alone, so I'm not sure if they've ever had to stop one! Of course our ratios are usually better too... 3 or 4 adults to ONE not quite five year old!

What a great day at DHS and Cape May! Abby looks SO happy in the breakfast photos. I can't do Star Tours any more either. Seems like every year there's a new one to cross off the list. As you say, though, there's still no shortage of fun rides I can still handle.
Thanks Marnie. I'm glad you like the pictures and we did have a great day.

I love, love, love the first picture of Abby with Goofy at Cape May. You can just see the joy in her face!
The regular line was always outside so I'm thinking it was probably 90 plus minutes all day long, the FP line however was only outside once. But don't forget that Lenny uses his scooter and with Abby's Autism we get a GAC so those helped a lot. We still had to wait but we didn't have to wait the same time as the regular line. Abby does like her character meals and with leaving AK so early the night before, we were able to be in bed early (meaning a good night's sleep for her). Plus too, this was a new meal to us that she was really excited about.
YAY for another great day (although your cliff hanger ending has be guessing about why it was a good thing you went back to the resort. I'm going to have to patiently wait...I know. LOL).
Glad you enjoyed your breakfast! I loved the pictures.
As for the Star Tours, my hubby can not watch a lot of the 3D movies anymore. He said they bother him a lot. He said the only one that does not seem to bother him is Mickey's Philamagic (or something like that. It's in MK). I hope this one does not bother him as I am excited for us all to get to try the new version. I'm also glad you mentioned there are different ones b/c I did not know that.
You are a nice mom....I'm so bad that I have tried to keep my kiddos from seeing the play areas (and so far I have been successful) at both MK and DHS for the exact reason you mention. There are so many people and unless I am constantly wandering through the play areas it is hard to keep up with the both of them b/c my poor husband has the mentality that they are at Disney and will be fine, but I'm paranoid mom who must be able to see her child at all times. The hiding game would have sent me into a PANIC. LOL Glad you found her safe and sound though!
I read your responses, so now I know, but I was amazed that you were able to ride TSM 3 times. Last year, we only rode it once and waited a LONG time even with the FP (which were all gone by 10am) and then the stand by line was way too long to even attempt it again (about 2 hrs). I'm so glad that you all were able to ride it that many times so that Abby could win a round too! And I agree, it is just as fun watching your kids have fun enjoying a ride at Disney!
Again, can't wait to read more. I'm curious to as to how CM will be. We enjoyed it our first 2 visits, but on our last one the food was just okay and the service was horrible that we opted to skip it this time and I never thought I would do that. Hope you have a good experience.
OHhh, and your smiley icon that you replaced is cute. I totally have a picture in my head of your mom peaking through the partions. LOL

Thanks Sharon, we did have a fun day. And as for Abby's bucket list, I'm not exactly sure what else she has on there. Probably her next one is to go to Disneyland and any more will probably be put on her bucket list after the fact (like the monkey's - I didn't know it was on her list - or that she even had a list - until after the fact )

It was a great day - and what a shame you had to leave US because of the ride. All the smilies I just kind of do google searches for and I've hit on a couple of different websites that have them totally free. I copy and paste the links of ones I like into my photobucket account and that way I can find them easily when I want them. I do have a thread around here too that has some good tips too for finding them.

We still laugh about Abby and her checking off her bucket list. She was totally cute doing it. I don't blame you for not going to the play area and if you're daughter doesn't know about it or isn't asking for it, then she's not missing anything. I'm glad you like the new smiley. I tried and tried looking for one like that from the beginning but I couldn't find anything and today I happen to stumble upon it in a smiley category I would never have thought to look in (it was under happy smilies )

Thanks Nancy. You know how it is with kids - you think they're lost and you're so relieved when you find them you forget how you were feeling only a couple of minutes before. As for letting Abby win, with her Autism, it's just a fact of life that every so often I have to do things like that so it tends to be second nature. Not all the time but when I feel it will cause an issue, it's very easy to let her win without her knowing she is. Kids are great to watch when they don't know about it

Thanks. I think Cape May has become a new breakfast meal for us. I'd much rather go there than say, Ohana's , but who knows what our choices will be when we finally make it back. He wouldn't be too much of a chef if he couldn't make something but even if he couldn't have, at least there was the yogurt I could eat. With the granola, it was very filling. As to getting a lot of things done, I don't know if it was the day or what but other than TSM there weren't a lot of lines. There was none at all for Muppet Vision, VOLM, BLT and One Man's Dream. All of those we got in within 5 minutes. Star Tours we needed the Handicapped ramp and we could go right to that and we only had to wait for a few to actually board the vehicle. GMR we probably spent 10 minutes in line tops. We pretty much just stayed in that one area of the park and we skipped all the shows but it took us about 8 hours to do what we did.

Thanks - I thought the new smiley really conveyed what mom was doing - down to the smiley trying to say "yoo who" and just makes it so much better IMO. 3 or 4 adults to one kiddo - yeah much better ratios compared to mine. It's usually one adult (me) to one child and one pain in the butt who acts like a teenager at times (Lenny - but I think you knew that ). Is it any wonder why I'm getting gray hair . I love your picture too.

Thanks Laurie. That day was a great day - but I have yet to metion it before now but it's not done with yet - maybe I should go back and edit it to let you guys know that. Sorry to hear you're like me and have rides you can't do.

I laughed so hard at Abby checking something off of her bucket list. How cute is she?
It sounds like y'all are having a fabulous time so far (despite some early bumps in the road) and I can't wait to read more!
I'm so glad you're loving my TR. Although I have to say, every time someone says that "I'm loving it" I think about McDonalds. Do they even have that logo anymore? I'm glad you're laughing too - that's why I put some of this stuff. Because I know you guys will see the humor in it and can see Abby doing this stuff. We had some bumps but yes, we really started to enjoy ourselves. You'll have to wait for more though. I won't do anymore until tomorrow.

Thanks for all the comments. We did have a good breakfast. I too can watch Mickey's Philharmagic without a problem. but what a shame your hubby has problems with 3D. Do you think that might affect him on Star Tours because the new version is 3D. I didn't actually realize that until we were inside and had to take the glasses. And as for different versions, I wouldn't have known either if Lenny and Abby didn't ride a second time. I don't think you're a bad mom. Keeping them from seeing it is one thing, if they're begging and pleading to go in and you say no, that's something else entirely - but you're still mom and have a good reason for the things you do and don't do. And one of these days they'll realize it (and now I sound like my mom ). I know in all my TR's a lot of people are always amazed at how much we get done and more often than not, that's the reason. I just don't put it out there, KWIM? I'll mention that we get one when we arrive in Disney but I just don't point out if and when we use it. I think those that have gotten to know us well over the years know how we do what we do and for those who don't know us well enough that are left guessing, it depends upon who they are as to whether I "clue them in." And as you already guessed, yes you'll have to stay tuned to hear about our dinner at CM's.
And thank about the smiley. Mom peeking was what I originally wanted to convey but I didn't find that smiley until today - under the "happy smilies" group. I'm not sure why it was there but hey, I finally found what I wanted and it's accomplished what I was hoping.
We were standing in line for TSMWM and a family came in the entrance you would use with a little girl in a wheelchair. When they got up to the CM at the Fast Pass/Regular line junction, she got out of her chair and walked. My sister started to say something about "why does she only need a wheel chair to cut the line" when I pointed out that there was MORE to the picture than meets the eye! After a better look she understood. I knew from the second I first saw her entering that she was autistic, but then again, I deal with pediatrics all the time! But the sad part was that poor family chose the handicapped side to enter on (I really think the little girl had a very hard time with people too close to her!) and they were STILL WAITING after we boarded our car!
It makes me crazy when people make assumptions! My sister usually never does, so I was a bit shocked, but she "pulled back" immediately when she saw the full situation and was embarrassed by her outburst (a quiet one, but an outburst non the less!). Walk a mile in someone else's shoes...
I am glad you all get to use GAC card, Darlene! We have a lot of friends who have autistic children ( all varying in degrees) and I'm glad Disney has that available for families. My nephew was recently diagnosed and he can be fine one moment and then a sound or touch of something can cause a melt down. I actually was hoping that when you said that you were able to ride it 3 times that the ride has calmed down since we were there last year b/c it was a crazy mad house! . As for my hubby, I hope the Star Tours does not bother him. He will try it one time like you did and if it does bother him, he will sit it out in the future. He doesn't even bother watching 3 D movies at the theater anymore b/c they are just blurry and weird for him to watch. Hoping you post something soon as I'm anxious to read more!
