An Animal Kingdom State of Being with Cam and Fam COMPLETED 9/18 - Page 56 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So I have you to thank for my smooth check-in for my trip coming up then?!
love the character interaction. I really hope Dylan will be into it this year. I think he will because we keep telling him all the characters he can meet. I'm just afraid that I'm getting his hopes too high as I think he thinks he can meet ANY Disney character there.
Great pictures. We meet Mickey and Minnie in their new home in May and I have to say that they did a great job with the themeing. Glad that you heard back from Disney about your check-in experience and they did something about it. Great to know that someone is on the other end looking at those e-mails. Nice start to you day at MK!!

Check out our PTR for our upcoming Christmas trip to see Mickey!
Glad to hear that Disney got back to you! It was nice to hear that they took your complaint seriously after that huge check in fiasco and were able to compensate you for the mistake and make it right. It too was nice to know that there is a back up plan in place.
Wow, I keep falling so far behind! I'm so sorry that Luke hurt himself on those stairs. That was a big complaint of mine even in the regular queue/line for the Dragon coasters. The lighting was horrible! In fact, that was a huge complaint of mine for more than one ride at Universal/IOA. Dim lighting in the line area is not such a great idea, IMO. David says he thinks it is so that they won't have to put much effort into adding details to the areas that are dimly lit, but as Luke can testify to, it's a safety hazard!
I love your wand. That's one thing I wish I had picked up when we were there.
Sorry about all the ride malfunctions! That would have been incredibly frustrating! Loved Luke's comment about going to cause a malfunction on Spiderman.
I was blown away by your problems with check-in! I would have been furious, you certainly handled it better than I would have! I'm glad they got back to you after your e-mail and refunded you some of your DVC points as compensation. At least we know that Disney still cares!
What a strange experience in the restaurant bathroom! If the mom was right there, I don't understand why she didn't just come in herself, even if she did bring her son with her, that would have been less strange. Good for you for cutting the horseplay short. I probably would have tried the same thing, but I don't have a "Teacher Voice" to use, so they probably would have ignored me.
I love the pictures of your hotel. David and I are considering staying one night at the AKL at the end of our trip in 2012. We can't afford to stay there for the whole trip, but I think it would be a blast to even experience it for one night!
As usual, Stefanie's pictures with the Princesses are adoreable! I will try not to get so far behind this time! I can't wait to read the rest of your TR.
Ol Camthe pics of Stefanie with all the characters and just to cute, she looks so very happy and excited! What a wonderful day yall are havin so far!
She wanted to see the pictures I had posted before we went to bed last night. She even commented on how much she is smiling in them. She also told me that loves hugging all of them.

You should definitely see several of my friends on the savannah.

Those kids in the restroom... unbelieveable - good for you for speaking up. They should have been ashamed of themselves, my gosh! They were old enough to know better - and frankly the mother shouldn't have even considered sending a boy that age into the women's room.
As for the kid at Boma... I have to admit, I laughed - because it's something I could see Meredith doing. Not out of rudeness, so much as because I drill into her certain things - one of them being "don't cut in front of people in a line - patiently wait your turn." So therefore, my bossy, micro-managing daughter takes those rules very much to heart, and seems to think that it is her God-given duty to impart her wisdom and rules to everyone she runs into that isn't following the exact set of rules that she is, at the exact time that she is. It's a constant work in progress to drill into her that our rules are OUR rules, and that she must not worry about the behavior of others quite so much. It's also hard to explain that rules are ever-changing depending on situations (buffets, for example, vs. lines for a ride or a cashier).
LOVE the photos with the princesses! I am so excited for our October trip!! The photos are just getting me super hopped up about it all! Looking forward to more and more and more!
I kind of figured that there had been quite a few discussions with his parents about lines while at Disney and it is a bit confusing when you're in a buffet line.
I whish we could manage an October trip as seeing the Halloween decorations has been one of my best WDW memories. Take lots of pictures so I can enjoy it all through your TR!
Your pictures with the Princesses and Mickey and Minnie are priceless...and made me realize that I completely forgot about the new meet & greet areas while we were there! I'm glad to hear Disney took your comments to heart and even tried to compensate you for the hassle.
I could forget because Stefanie had been reminding me and reminding me. Maybe I should have rented her out to you all for a day, so she could have reminded you, too!

AKL really is work a visit as you can wander out to the savannah overlooks and see the animals and wander the grounds to see even more.

Really my whole conversation with him was classic Disney service at its best!

I did feel better after our conversation. My faith in Disney was once again verified!

I think starting your TR would be great! I'm ready to read it!

I hope the computers are up and running when it comes time for you all to check in. Stefanie still gets disappointed that some of the characters are not there, e.g. Wall-E is one of her favorites, but we've never seen him in the parks.

I don't know what Disney's training process is, but they pick people who do such a wonderful job of playing their particular character.

The new meet and greet really is designed so well! And it is very reassuring to know that folks at Disney are listening to what we are saying.

Now that I know there is a back up plan, I'll ask if this situation ever happens again. But Eli sounded like that would be an improbability as they pull staff in to discuss what went wrong.

Wow, I am finally all caught up, we have not had internet access for 4 days and suddenly I am 20 pages behind!
I hope that Luke's toe didn't cause him too much discomfort during your trip, it was really great to see Universal, BUT nothing can compare to seeing those gates to WDW!
I really loved those Darth Vader cupcakes, and am glad that the new Star Tours is better, we are really looking forward to checking that out in October!
I also really liked your photos of you all with the Princesses and Mickey and Minnie - the theming as always looks wonderful!

Finally caught up again! Love that you're back in the Bubble. And the character pics are great. Love especially the ones with Mickey and Minnie & Chip and Dale.

Wow, so much to catch up on. The pictures of the Lodge are great - especially the portrait shots of Stefanie. I love the character meets, it seems like you got to spend some good quality time with them.
That is some awesome latent magic from Eli! We all wish customer service from anywhere is really listening.
Just got all caught up - great updates as usual! Stephanie always puts a smile on my face!
I think that is her greatest talent, making folks smile!

I am always so pleased at how well the characters respond to Stefanie. Really is !
