"This is Not the Trip You're Looking For" TR May/June 2011 - COMPLETE - Page 33 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am so far behind on TRs, but I'm diving back in and have spent the last hour catching up on yours I am so glad for you that the last part of your trip was better than the start. Thank you so much for sharing it all with us! Looking forward to news of your next trip!

Glad you decided on the solo trip for next May. You'll be able to tour without worrying about everyone else having a good time! If you're not already reading zacksmom's current TR "Can I Play on Your I Phone?", do so-- loaded with tips for getting the most out of SWW!

Yep - I had all my info for getting the most out of SWW, but all that info doesn't do any good when you're touring with other people who aren't excited about following the plan as you are! <Or get motion-sickness first thing in the morning...gumble, grumble> That's why doing a solo weekend will allow me to do all the things I want to do without worrying about my family's wants and needs.

I'm sorry to hear about the drama that happened, with timing and illness. It is so hard to handle things getting all messed up when we've worked so hard to plan everything 'just so'.
I think the idea of going by yourself is a great one. My husband and I attend Dragon*Con in Atlanta each year, and for some reason I keep putting what he wants to do ahead of what I want to do/who I want to meet. I've decided that's not happening this year!
(Have you ever been? Most of the 501st goes each year, and there are always at least a couple of Star Wars related guests along with a huge Star Wars track. Peter Mayhew is usually there, but I don't see him on the list right now. Forgive me if you have been, just sharing info in case you haven't!)
Thank you!
You know, Dragon-Con is one of those events I always look at and drool over but never actually make the time to go to. I've still got time this year...hmmm...maybe I should think about a weekend in Atlanta this September! I'll let you know if I can arrange it and if you all are there, maybe we can say hi.

Unless something huge happens (like Katrina in '05), we're there every year! We have eternal badges (which were $500 back in '00 and are $1000+ now) so we're paid for, just have to pay for our hotel each year.
If you come, definitely let me know. I can help a newbie out and we could say hi!

Cathy, I spent the last few days reading your entire TR. Sorry there were a few rough patches, but reading through it almost all at once, it seemed like a pretty fun trip! Glad you'll be able to go back next year and do all the Star Wars geeky stuff you want! Thanks for sharing (and by the way, I'm going to try that Vita Motion spray for my nephew).

Thank you for writing such a great TR! It helps to hear about other people's bad trips. Ours was December of 2009. We went for Christmas week and it was just WAY too busy. We won't do that again.
Although this trip wasn't all that you hoped for, that last full day seemed wonderful. I hope that is the memory that sticks for this trip!
Good luck planning for the future trips!
I'm sorry your Christmas trip wasn't as magical as you'd hoped for. We don't do crowds well, either - which is probably one of the reasons we'll never get to see Disney at Christmas. Hope from here on out, every one of your trips is perfect in every way!

Thanks for reading along. Finding those Jedi quotes was one of the best parts of writing it.

Thank you! Definitely give that VitaMotion-S spray a chance! Someone we know even used it during a bout with stomach flu - so it's great to keep on hand for everything. Let us know how it works for your nephew.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us Cathy! I have to say that your honesty was so refreshing, because most all of us can relate to what you were going through. When I read through TR's where everything was perfect and pixie dusted the whole time I wonder what is wrong with my family (and also if they are exagerating a bit .) I haven't had one single perfect trip, yet all of them were special and had many magical moments as your trip did. I'm happy that writing this TR has helped you to see that!!
I also want to add that even though your DD's are growing up I'll bet they continue to love visiting WDW. I know that mine although they are way past the princess stage can't wait to go back this summer and are just as excited as they were when they were little! (I'll bet they even visit a princess or two!!)
I can't wait to see the plans for your next trip unfold, happy planning!

Thanks Lisa! That's exactly the way I feel sometimes .
And just so you know, I always look at you and your girls and think, "It won't be long before Kelley and Cory are that age..." You are such a close and loving family and I hope my girls will be the same way when they hit their teen years. And I hope they'll still want to visit WDW with me just like yours do.

My girls are closer now that Ashley has gone to college and they don't see each other every day. They did plenty of fighting through the years. They have night and day personalities, so it has often been a struggle keeping the peace! I'm sure if your girls are having struggles they'll get past it too.
Just getting caught up Cathy! Sorry about missing the characters at Rafiki's! It looks like you guys had a great day at Epcot, and a great anniverary dinner at YS! And great pictures from your breakfast at 'Ohana! Thanks so much for taking us along on your trip. I know it wasn't as magical as you had hoped, but I hope writing it all done and sharing it with us shows us you did have lots of magic sprinkled in amongst the downpoints! Great job!
