Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry about the moving out but having your own place again is a nice thing too. Glad the Disney trip didn't suffer because of the move.
Where in Jersey are you heading? I'm South Jersey, just outside of Philly.

The storage unit is in Edison. I am hoping to catch up with my sister and kids (they live in Succasuna) for at least bfast or lunch. It's my BiL's bday so she's not sure she can meet up.
Sidenote: this is one of the reasons I left Jersey (besides cold, crowded and expensive). I don't care for my family, long story but my Mother and I don't talk and I barely speak to my sister. This pains me but I'd rather be away from them then have to deal with the drama that is my family. If my sister told me she was coming to SC (which will NEVER happen) I would drop everything to spend every second with them. I haven't seen the kids in three years!!! We are VERY different she and I.
Anyway, we will be taking 81 up to 78 and heading East (much nicer drive than 95). Not too far from you. I have lived everywhere in Jersey (North as Vernon, South as Toms River)
Sorry to hear about ex-DBF, but it sounds like you are ok with your decision. Good luck on your move and have fun on your NJ trip.

Sorry about the BF though...........that does suck - but sounds like it is for the best!??!
Can't wait to hear about your NJ road trip! I have friends that we visit there - and it is always a HOOT to go there!
Again, that you for your thoughts! I am desperately trying to fit some kind of visit to anything cool while we are up there since Jennie #1 has never been anywhere near NYC ( I begged even for a quick run to the Statue of Liberty) but we really don't have time. Edison (where my storage unit is) is so crowded and has nothing really to look at besides traffic and convention centers.
Jennie #1 said perhaps we'll make a seperate trip up there for some sightseeing but I really don't see myself ever returning. Maybe for a graduation or big life event. But once I get my stuff, it's over. I've always been a warm weather chick and the only place I'm trying to go is FL. Ok, I'd take a shack (bug free) on an island somewhere and have Jimmy Buffett as a neighbor.
I made a change to my road trip last nite since Carrabbas (one of the restaurants I work at P/T) was closed due to no power. We had a rockin' storm blow in Wednesday nite and lots of people (and stores) were without power until early Friday.
I had reserved a 5'x8' trailer in Jersey to haul back to SC full of my stuff. I was concerned that it would not be large enough AND it only has two wheels. What if we get a blow out on the road?? Yeah, we've got AAA and all but coming back on Sunday, we are running on borrowed time since we will have to travel 12+ hours, unload the trailer, run over to my current place to pick up my bedroom set and then back to the apt. to unload that, return the trailer before midnite and still get sleep for work. Whew!
Oh, let's not forget it costs $300 to rent a 5x8 trailer in NJ.
I went on uhaul.com last nite and changed the ressie (silly, a PPer changing a ressie!!) to pick up a 6x12 trailer with four wheels in SC and take it empty up to NJ and return it three days later back in SC. For, wait for it, wait for it...... $135!!!! For reals!!! It will hardly use any more gas to haul it there empty. Score!
I also called the Dolphin to check on discounts for hotel guests staying the weekend of their Food & Wine Classic. It would be $325+ for the one night stay that would include the Causeway Tasting & Entertainment and all the seminars offered that day. Hmmm.... I decided that the seminars don't interest me (well, maybe the mixology) but I was mainly interested in the tasting. That is only $65. They promised me that tix would still be available the day of for resort guests. Great, that's one less expense I have to pay for right now.
I am still sitting on the ticket fence. On one side is a $293.00 Undercover tourist 3 day PH (plus one day free) + the 3 days I still have on my non expiring pass. On the other side is a $500+ annual pass. What to do. I was set on getting an AP before deciding to move. What if I can't swing another vakay within the next year?? Since the price hike I figured I can wait until the last minute to buy the AP but the Undercover Tourist tickets at 2011 prices are selling fast. I'm going to drive myself crazy with this.

Alrighty then, so I missed out on the notification of the ticket price increase but the Travel Fund Gods have smiled upon me and I did get lucky with airfare.
Southwest is celebrating their 40th bday this year (me too, tomorrow!!) and announced some awesome airfare. I hopped online and was able to keep the same flights yet save $133!!!
Even better, that $133 is now saved in my SWA Travel Funds for a future flight. So this solidifies my choice to get an AP. I MUST take another trip before April 2012!
I am trying to get Jennie #1 to go with me early November to catch WDW at holiday time but she's being a bugger. I'll keep on it. If not, another February trip will come to fruition!!
You might want to check the Mousesavers secret link to Undercovertourist. They still have tickets at the old price!
Thank you!!
I checked UT last week and was really on the fence between a 4 day pass and an AP. But now, with the $133 airfare credit that expires next April, I'll definitely be going back within a year - AP it is!!
