A Disney Trip 10 Years in the Making. PTR 10/14 - 23/2011 - Page 18 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm enjoying the stories and updates. I'm doing the same thing with the Disney movies though. It'll be great to see if they identify with the characters by the time we get there. Your son is adorable and it's true kids say the darndest things.
I really do think a lot of Disney movies have ummmm questionable undertones. I think it's more for adult enjoyment because it goes right over the kids heads mostly. My at the time 4 year old asked me if the villian in Princess in the Frog worshiped the devil cause demons were coming to get the frog. I was like uh wow, I didn't even go there but uhhh I don't know. ha ha ha.

Disney is great with villains; however, I felt that this one was a bit toooo dark and left a lot for the young impressionable minds to worry about. Our grandchildren are all 12+. None have asked about this villain. The youngest did want to sit as close as possible when she was watching it.

Nothing new on the Disney front - I've been reading everyone else's TR to keep my excitement up.
Evan and I are going away for a weekend - in 2 weeks so I'm beginning to get the house in order and mentally prepare for that. We are heading to LancasterPA to go to Dutchwonderland and ride on Thomas the Tank Engine.
We spent a lovely day at the Philly zoo this past Saturday and then Evan and his cousin spent the night at Grandma's house.
Movie of the week was Monsters Inc. This was the second time he saw it.
We watched Monster's Inc not too long ago. Graet movie!
Will you be taking Evan to see Cars 2?
Oh yes! Have too! He is bugging me now that the commercials are on TV.
I told him Aunt Jill and I want to go see a pirate movie - he's like "Pirates of the Caribbean! I love that movie" He has never seen that movie (any of them) so I don't know what he is talking about.

Of course we'll be taking Dylan. And bonus I won 2 movie passes at work the other day! Although I don't think he knows about it. He's too busy with all the movies at home he doesn't watch normal tv to see the previews. He already has some of the toys from the new movie though.
MNSSHP – to dress up or not to dress up – that is the question
This trip will be my first time traveling in the fall and our first MNSSHP. We are all debating on if we should dress-up for the party.
Here are my thoughts…
I’m not a real big dress up in costume sort of person and neither is my mom so to do something puts me out of my comfort zone. I do however think the kids would really enjoy it and being the good mom that I am (ouch I just hurt my shoulder by patting myself on the back) I would dress in costume for my son.
There are 11 of us it would be kinda cool to have a theme of some sort – but what? I’ve thought about trying to find a movie with a cast like all the dwarves and Snow White, the evil queen, etc. or doing something like spelling Happy Halloween across all our shirts so when we stand together you get the message. My sister suggested we all wear matching t-shirts just with a character’s names on them “Mickey”, “Minnie”, “Goofy” etc. The issue of packing an actual costume is another issue.
Evan wants to be Tick-Tock so he can scare Captain Hook. I have an alligator hat/head piece and he could just wear green and I could create so sort of tail for him. I know with the trick or treat bags getting full I’ll end up carrying his so I don’t want a costume that is too cumbersome because I may end up carrying that too.
So what is everyone’s advice on dressing up? Do you do it? Do most people? What about ideas for costumes?
Thanks everyone.
Movie of the week: Last week it was Monsters Inc. This week I’m heading the library to get either Wall-E or The Incredibles. I don’t own either and both are currently “checked in” so I’ll let Evan decide.
Random Disney story:
One time my Dad took my sister and I to Florida and Disney. It was the year after my parent’s got divorced but before they both remarried. I guess I was about 10 or 11. We took the Auto Train – what an ordeal. It took 24 hours but it was an interesting way to travel. I’ve considered taking the auto train but would only do it if I could get a suite. We did not have a suite; we had a regular train seat. We are riding along and my sister looks down at her arm rest. She had the window seat and right between her arm rest (which her arm was on) and the side wall… in that little inch of space…was a mouse looking at her. She was startled to say the least but not scared or skeeved (sp?) out. It quickly ran away. Later that night while it was dark in the cabin area, but light in the hallway by the bathrooms, I saw the mouse run across the aisle. I think I sleep with my feet up off the floor that night.
Coming up next To stroller or not to stroller – now THAT is the question
I've never been there for MNSSHP but I would definitely dress up if you can. We had matching Disney holiday sweatshirts when we did MVMCP a few years back! Good luck finding a theme!
My wife & I dressed up several years ago during MNSSHP. To conserve space, we went to Party City and bought light weight costumes. (Medieval Princess and a Knight) The costumes were not Disney related but fit the general theme. They were light enough to fit in backpacks so we did not have to wear them into the park (We were in the park all day and then stayed for the party.) Being in costume was a lot of fun. Hope you can find something for the whole group.
I think it would be fun if the whole family dressed in theme and you'd probably get a lot of attention, but it would have to be something lightweight and easy to wear/ carry. Maybe, since Evan wants to be the croc (cute!) all the kids could be the other characters from Peter Pan and the adults just wear pirate hats?
