Sparky's Gone to the World- A TR 9/13/11-9/20/11 - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Awww...thanks Kathy! PP hasn't forgotten about me.
Not a whole lot going on in the Disney front. But I think I will make an update tomorrow, I just don't have the time tonight for it. So....we'll catch up tomorrow!
Hi PP friends! Sorry it’s been so long since I have updated on this thread. I can’t believe I am down to 130 days today.
Been mostly living life and waiting for spring to come. Haven’t done very much on the planning front. But I will let you in on the little bit I have done. Forgive me if I repeat myself at all, I did go back to see where I left off to know what might have changed, but I could miss something.
Thus far, there have been no changes made to our schedule. The million times I have looked it over for one reason or another, it looks perfect to me. Therefore, I don’t feel the need to change a thing. I did add another day onto our park tickets so that way we can go to MK the last day. When I booked the package in Aug. of 2010, I just did 6 day tickets knowing if we decided to add either arrival or departure day I could. Due to the MNSSHP going on the night of our arrival we have decided on the last day.
I have bought a few items needed for the trip, such as travel items. I got a new sundress and crocs. DD had Minnie Crocs in her Easter Basket, along with a Disney gift card. That brings her total gift cards up to 4 at $100 total. Her birthday is in a few weeks, she will be 7. Where does the time go? Anyhow, one of my bff’s is getting her another gift card and so are we so that she will be all set for the trip.
She still doesn’t know that we are going. Lucky for us she hasn’t even asked why she is getting these gift cards. I am not exactly sure she knows what they are for. I know she will when we are there though. She doesn’t really have any concept of time yet, so she has no reason to say or think “Hey, they keep buying me these gift cards but say we are going back to WDW, sometime….” So it works.
I designed and bought a plate on SeeHere.com to use for her surprise. It has pics from the last trip along with the writing, “We are going to WDW, NOW!” I will give her breakfast on this plate the morning we leave, so when she finishes she can read what it says and then we can get in the car and go! We have to leave for the airport about the same time she would be going to school, so we are just going to get her up and act like normal. I can’t wait to see what she does!
That is about all that is going on when it comes to the Disney planning front. I am at the point that its still far enough away, I am not just waiting, waiting, and dreaming yet. But it’s close enough that I have everything planned. So now I have to wait for the OMG! We have to start to hustle butt!
On the non Disney front, my car wouldn’t pass inspection at the end of April. It really concerned me because I need a car, but with trying to pay for WDW, we can’t afford another car.
After being upset about my beautiful cozy car going to the junk yard, I realized that I have a car I can use. It belongs to us anyhow and is just sitting at my mil house. We got it on the road on Thursday. This weekend the new water pump is being put in and the oil changed, and cross our fingers I should be good to go.
My lovely old car was a 1992 Oldsmobile 98…with leather seats that had warmers, duel temp controls, air conditioning, a million seat positions and puffiness.
I will now be driving a 1990 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser Station Wagon. LOL It’s name is Brady Blue, because it’s the car Carol Brady drove (that is what it looks like) and it’s blue. Picture the car from National Lampoons Vacation…without the Aunt on the roof! LMAO
DD has been taking private swimming lessons with her bff at the Y for the past 2 months. She has come a long way, and she is a little fish. It has been fun to watch them learning and actually encouraging and cheering each other on.
I received and filled out the necessary paperwork for her to do horseback riding again this summer, so hopefully she will get both sessions and do it in July and August.
After speaking with her teachers and updating her IEP for next year, it has been decided that she will attend school in the summer again this year. This makes me happy, because she likes going to school and gets mad when she can’t go during vacations. She doesn’t understand the school is closed, she thinks I am just being mean and not letting her go. That is once she realized that school vacation, didn’t exactly mean “vacation”. Last month was April vacation, we have Feb and April vacation. Each a week long, instead of spring break in March for a week. She came home from school the Friday before vacation and announces “I am ready to go to WDW!” When she found out we weren’t going she kept saying to me “But it’s vacation!” Once she got it, then she was mad because we weren’t going anywhere but I wasn’t letting her go to school either. Boy, I am mean! LOL
Lastly, another funny thing my DD has been doing the past couple weeks for your enjoyment and chuckle (at least it makes me chuckle). I have been trying to cut back the amount of food my DD eats. She has always been a grazer and would eat all day if I let her. I have been trying to stick to a snack schedule and because of this she has been trying new tactics to get snacks. For instance, this past week it’s been at bedtime, she asks for a bedtime snack. What the heck is a bedtime snack? LOL Well, yesterday she sat down to do her homework and she looks up at me and says “Can I have a homework snack?” LOL
Talk to you all soon, sorry for the long absence…I’ll try to be better, I just don’t want to bore you all with my non Disney stuff and I don’t have much Disney stuff to talk about right now. Hope you enjoyed what I had to give though!
Sorry about the car, but at least you have a replacement though I got tickled by your Brady Bunch and National Lampoon comparisons. Your DD is so adorable! My sisters and I always asked for bedtime snacks.
Just realized that you are in NE also - when you mentioned waiting for Spring.............hmmmmm........do you think we will ever see it???
DD sounds like a hoot!!! I will have to use that............"Can I have a laundry snack..........a computer snack.............."!!!! Not so sure it will work as well for me!
Good luck with the car repairs!

I understand about the waiting when everything is planned. I am in the same boat.
Sorry to hear about your car.
I laughed at reading your DD doesn't like time off from school. Hopefully she will continue to feel that way.
DS is a snacker too. He also eats very slowly. He would take 2 hours to eat a meal if we would let him.
Thanks, I am slowly getting over the fact of losing my beautiful car, and switching to Brady. I get to go to WDW, so that does make it slightly easier. Like my brother said "Do what you gotta do, to do your trip!"
Waiting is the hardest part!!! Jeesh.
It is very hard to stop the snacking, and hopefully I can keep on it. Of course, it's making me look at when I eat too. Which I could actually use! LOL

Thanks Cam. I am happy I have a replacement too. Otherwise, WDW might have had to be cancelled and like my DD says "That's not good!" Glad to hear my DD isn't the only one who asks for bedtime snacks. LOL

I am in MA, Cape Cod actually...so it takes slightly longer for us because we have the lovely seabreeze coming at us from all or any sides. However, it has been beautiful here the last couple days.
I see your from Mystic, CT and my entire family (mom, grandparents, great grandparents) is from CT. I am the first in my family to be a native to the Cape. Up until 2004 my great grandma and my great uncle still did, so I went to CT A LOT when I was growing up, because my grandma raised me and it was her mom.
My family was orginally from Bridgeport, but ended up in New Milford, CT. I had relatives in Kent, Monroe, and I still have a cousin in Seymour. Gram would always stop in Mystic as our mid point stop to get food, drinks, and use the bathroom. I actually honeymooned in Mystic! We stayed at the Hilton across from the aquarium. We went to the aquarium, the Olde Village place, and to Foxwoods. We were looking for something affordable within a few hours drive just for the weekend. Gram suggested Mystic, and I thought that was great. So I am pretty familiar with your area.
Yes, my DD keeps me in stitches a lot. She says the funniest things! She is a sweetheart as well. She has been thanking me all week for taking good care of her. Where this came from I don't know. But I'll take it, how many kids thank their parents (at age 6-7) for taking care of them? LOL
Thanks for reading along everyone...I'll try to be better about updating in some fashion. I guess my non Disney stories are good enough.
We try to visit the Cape every summer!!! And even DH and I will sometimes escape for a night to the Cape!!! We LOVE it there! So peaceful and beautiful!!! If you asked DD where her favorite place to visit was - besides WDW of course - she would probably say the Cape!!! We usually stay up (or as the Cape folks say....down) in the Wellfleet area! We really enjoy being close to the drive in, P-town (love those whale watches!! and Race Point!). We have been visiting there since 2003!

Glad to hear you love the Cape. I was born at Cape Cod Hospital so I am a native. I really like it here and will never leave...I hope. It is very expensive to live on the Cape!
I am thinking of trying out the drive in with my DD this summer, well see. We love PTown as well, but haven't visited in the past few years. I am from Hyannis. Ugh, we hope to move next year towards Lower Cape (towards PTown) maybe Yarmouth, Dennis, or Harwich.

Sorry to hear about the car. I had to giggle though when you were talking about your new car because every morning when I drive to work I pass a yellow car that reminds me of the Griswolds.
That's wonderful that your daughter loves school so much. Hopefully she never loses that quest for knowledge.

Yes, I saw my beautiess white car go on a trailer today to be hauled to the junkyard. It almost brought a tear to my ete.
DH says Brady is not the same as the one in NLV but yes, it does look very similar. So that is good enough! LOL
Yes, so far she likes school very much, she just hates getting ready to go. Once she is ready she can't wait to go!
I am actually slightly scared of the whole BBB appointment, because she has been asking for it, but she hates getting her hair done. Every morning it's a struggle to get it done. Every morning we talk about how can you do BBB if you start whining and screaming when your getting your hair done? So why then did I book it? Well, honestly some days I ask myself that very question. But I think she will be fine. I will make sure to brush her hair out real good before we get there and hopefully she will be happy and not cause an issue. If she does, then we leave. Pixies for me with that!!
