Patience, My Young Padawan PTR - UPDATED 5/25 - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Kevin is going to love the Segway tour! I haven't gotten to that in my TR yet, but I'll be sure to post all about it!
I know what you mean about clothes for the "Tweens." I find Target to be a good place to get clothes for the girls that aren't midriff-baring and don't have words on the rear end. I HATE that with a passion! What is it good for except making people look at your booty?!?!?!? If you've got a Justice near you, they've got some decent stuff, too.
Get going on that running thing so we can be at WDW at the same time, okay?

I Carousel of Progress, and one of the best things about it is that I've never experienced any sort of wait for it! It's kind of cheesy, but I love going on it at least once a trip. Hope you enjoy it too!
My DH went to tea with me last summer and he really liked it. There were a few other men in there too at the time. The first time I went there were 2 men having tea together - with no women either. I think the Afternoon Tea at GF is a good ice breaker to afternoon tea.
Good Luck with the new camera - start practicing!
More confirmation for Kevin...maybe if he can just order a coffee, he'll be good to go.

We've had this camera since fall and that's all we've been using it for, too! But I hate to pay for features I'm not using (plus I'm missing all the creativity I used to have with my old Minolta SG1.)

Great list for MK; I hope you get to knock out your "must" list!!
You have just relieved my mind with that info - whew! I'm not as concerned with weather as I am crowd levels; my girls (and Kevin) just don't handle crowds or waiting very well.

Yes - the clothes issue! We went out again yesterday trying to find each of the girls a pair of jean shorts (not bermuda length, just regular shorts) and all we could find were 'Daisy Dukes.' I seriously would like to start a clothing line for preteen/young teen girls that lets them dress up-to-date without all the cutesy, sparkly, little girl stuff or the 'look at my legs and booty' twenty-something clothes.
I scrapbook too. I have 2, yes 2, Disney trips and a Disney Cruise to do. I am such a slacker!! I have tried to start on the Cruise the past 2 weekends, but as you guess, something tends to come up. We'll see how this weekend turns out.

Thanks!! It IS addicting. And I feel better knowing I'm not the only one who's still working on mine.

Can't wait to read about the Segway tour, Beth!
I told my family about running at WDW...they just laughed at me and my DH asked, "And how old are all these other moms who are running?" Grrr!

I've heard that it was one of Walt's favorites - so that alone will endear it to me.
Before I go on sketching out our daily plans, I need to mention a few things.
I’m a big fan of Tour Guide Mike; for our first trips, we followed his advice and had absolutely little-to-no wait times for attractions. Plus, we pretty much got to pack in a lot of things in very little time – so for newcomers to WDW, it made perfect sense; low frustrations levels and high satisfaction levels.
Now that we’ve gotten our feet wet, so to speak, we all feel a little more loose and relaxed in planning our days. We still love his advice on least crowded park days and how to do multiple rides on the big ticket attractions (thank goodness for his advice on TSMM on our last trip!) – but this trip I’ll have less of a ‘step by step’ itinerary to follow.
Second, we’ve always done one park per day (we actually like immersing ourselves in one park theme for the day.) Last trip, we also had a planned ‘day off’ in the middle of the trip. This time, there’s no day off and we will most likely get PHs so we can take breaks if needed without feeling like we need to be at each park from rope drop to closing time.
Finally…while planning our postponed trip, the girls were going to make a list of places mentioned in the Kingdom Keepers books so we could take photos at each location. Now they’ve fallen out of love with the series (if Corinne decides to write her own TR, I’ll let her explain…) Instead, we’re really into some of the secrets we’ve been reading about in the book The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World Cam22 has been sharing with us in her PTR. So we’re going to spend some time in each park finding them – I know we won’t get to all of them, but that’s just something to look forward to next trip.
Tentatively, here’s what our MK day will look like:
~ Arrive for RD (my very favorite opening ceremony because I cry every time!)
~ Following TGM’s advice, we’ll hit the Big Three (Space Mountain, BTMRR, Splash Mountain)
~ As soon as these are under our belts, we’ll start working on everyone’s personal favorites, and make sure we get to our must-dos.
~ Lunch will be at whatever CS we’re nearby about 11:00 – but we’re shooting for Columbia Harbor House (I want to take photos.)
~ Definitely taking some afternoon time to explore more Main Street and look for the Hidden Secrets.
~ Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern.
~ We’ll also be hunting down the list of characters we want to meet at MK; Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen, Peter Pan, Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder are on the top of the list – plus Silvermist and Vidia if they’re around. And ohh…if we could only find Cinderella!
~ Main Street Electrical Parade that evening, followed by Wishes. I’m hoping to view by the Rose Garden again. (We decided against doing the Wishes Dessert Party, simply because Kevin and Kelley are not really big ‘dessert fans.’)
Great MK plans! I can't seem to make myself give up my step by step itinerary, but that's because I love the time-saving touring plans in the back of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. We got so much done before lunch last year...those things are amazing!!
