Silly "Eating" question About This Page:

When you sit down to eat your evening meal, do you have it set out on the table in serving bowls (formal) or do you just help yourself out of the pots in the kitchen (informal)?

Normally we just line up at the stove, plates in hand and serve ourselves from the pots. Less dishes to do that way. [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img]

Pots on the stove and dinner in the living room. We've only eaten at our kitchen table (a corner nook table with benches) three times - when our parents came over for holiday meals the year we got married. Now they know better. [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img] The bench at our table collapsed under my skinny little brother's weight when he sat down. They don't harp on us about family-style meals anymore. I guess we'd do it what you call the formal way - both Susan and I grew up that way and we've just folded that tradition into our family unit. Every now and then, if it's an extremely hot or messy dish, we'll serve the main course from the stove, but the sides are always on the table. We also always have some sort of music in the background - no TV allowed during dinner in our house.

We're a grab from the pots on the stove and take it out to the living room family. Actually, I came from a family that ALWAYS ate at the table with everything served in bowls and dishes. Russ was the exact opposite...rarely had the entire family together for a meal. He and Cori were so used to eating that way, so it didn't bother me. I do miss the days of sitting at the table though.

Although I don't consider it "formal", I always have everything on the table. However, occasionally, the pot or pan that was on the stove is sometimes brought to the table instead of transferring it to a bowl. Most often that happens with stew or chili or something that's a one-dish-casserole.

Most meals are from the pots and pans here too. We have always run a pretty informal ship! Less dishes and less mess. We always eat at the kitchen table so we can catch up with each other.

Table with bowls and dishes here - I need something for my two big girls to do chorewise! One is responsible for setting the table, one is responsible for clearing. Occasionally, we have dinner in the living room, when it is movie night, but not too often!

Both DH and I came from families where you ate at the table. But now we (usually just DH and I, DS is always doing his own thing now) just fill our plates at the stove and eat in front of the TV.

I usually make up plates for DH and I right at the stove. I prefer to eat at the table, DH usually eats in the living room in front of the TV. When I was growing up, we always ate in the dining room, no TV in sight. And besides, I am so clumsy, I'd end up knocking over the tray table [img]images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/img] !

A little bit of both. Since I work pretty late hours it all depends on how tired I am when I get home. We mostly eat at the table, after I have served up the meals from the stove. Our table is too little for serving bowls. Sometimes it's more buffet style and we will sit in front of the TV and watch a movie...usually that is on Sunday nights for Wonderful World of Disney!

I serve the plates from the stove when it's just my family. When we have company, we put the food out in serving bowls at the table and people help themselves (pass the bowls around). -HiddenMickey

DH eats in the family room in front of the tv while I eat at the kitchen table a few feet away.

DH & I both come from families where dinner is with the entire family in the dining room. However, with just the two of us we more often than not end up eating in front of the tv.

Grab from the stove and head to the TV. My brothers do not appreciate my haute cusine. Everything for them usually goes in bowls too. [img]images/icons/frown.gif[/img] Son and I are much more elegant, we use the TV tables and plates. [img]images/icons/tongue.gif[/img]

Dh works until 8:00 PM, so it's just me and Alli. We get home a little before six and a whip something up which gets put on our plates at the stove. We do eat together in the dining room (she in her high chair).
