As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

We are thinking of doing it on our arrival day -- all we had planned was the pool and a stop at Walmart, and flying in from MN we'll be in long pants anyway.
I asked my niece who used to live in Orlando. She hasn't done it, but said her friends reported it to be overpriced and cold. Not sure I want to decide based only on the opinons of Florida college students though.

I remember reading a fantastic description of ICE in one of Cheryl Pendry's trip reports... maybe you can search there? I do know that ever since I saw her pictures, I REALLY want to plan a December trip to WDW so we can go to ICE!

I had noticed the heads up about parking. I guess it won't be as much of a shock if we know. We'd pay $10 to park for a day or special event downtown, so I can't complain much about $13.

I have been to ICE 2x.... If you purchase your tickets on line it is a bit cheaper. We really enjoyed this,I took two of the nephews wth me. They have long coats that they give you to wear. But make sure to bring gloves and also DO NOT WEAR SANDALS.
Its very cold in there and even with Sneakers, the feets were cold towards the end.
They have some really fun scupltures and even have ICe slides for you to slide down. 3 years ago they had three differnt levels of Slides and the Expert one went along two walls of the huge room. Two years ago they just had to identical slides to slide down. Even the stairs are made of Ice.

We went to ICE in December 2008, it is really cool and very very cold. Bring plenty of layers as you will need them even with the Jacket they give you. Also a hat and gloves is a MUST as well. Fair warning though, you have to pay for parking, it was $12 when we went. So we decided to take our time and check out the Gaylord Palms which is a very nice and very big hotel with lots of cool stuff. So we got our parking moneys worth as well. They also have some nice restaurants there as well. I do have some pics in my Xmas TR below as well. They start with post 194. You can get the tickets cheaper if you buy them online and you can pick your date and time. It was very interesting and thank goodness not too long because I think they keep it at like 9 degrees and if it were any longer we would have had to leave and scoot through it but it was just about right. Have fun and enjoy it.

We're planning to go betwen the airport and our hotel at Universal. We won't buy advance tix because that would guarantee flight delays
They have a new "Snow" feature, too this year. We're hoping to have time to pick that up too.
We haven't gone in Orlando, but there is a Gaylord now in DC, and we went last year and LOVED it! It is cold (NINE DEGREES!), so dress warmly - even with the giant parka. Warm socks & shoes are a must, as are warm gloves/mittens and hats. My kids would have spent hours on the ice slides! DH & I even went down the slides. Lots of good photo ops for a holiday card, or just a good spread in a scrapbook.
We already have our tickets to go this year Thanksgiving weekend - our kick-off to the holidays. Not sure if each hotel has a different theme, but in DC, it's a Grinch theme this year!
Ice looks so great that I was ready to order my tickets online and then I read 'you must go down the slide...'
Do you "have to" go down the slide? I watched some of the videos posted on Youtube and it's just something I would not feel comfortable doing. I'm still recovering from a broken shoulder and I often have difficulty getting up from a chair because I can only put pressure on the one arm. I can't imagine getting up from the floor. Can you bypass the slide or not?
