Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

LOL at OneLittleSpark's comment.

I'm also glad Delaney was not hurt. Honestly, that post confirmed to me that you are an AMAZING mom. I loved how you handled the entire thing. I agree, an apology should not be forced, but sincere. So many times I've heard someone say, "sorry" with no sincerity in their voice, but just saying it to get it over with. Applauding you and what you are not only teaching your children, but your students as well. I ♥ that Hannah thinks about what others would like, not what she would like and the Minnie Mouse clip on seems so perfect after seeing Delaney in the pictures smiling so brightly with Minnie. I keep saying it, but I love your TR. I keep wanting more and then I don't b/c I know the more you write the closer it will be to being over. I just love how honest it is. That's what pulled me into you PTR from your last years visit.
So sorry you are not feeling better. That stinks. On our last visit the last two days I had a sore throat that was miserable! Hope you get to the Urgent Care Center and that they mended you up for the rest of your trip!

What a scary moment, glad there were no serious injuries. What a nice way Hannah decided to make it up to her sister, I hope she can find the special gift that she is looking for. You amaze me as how calm you stay in these moments....

I am so sorry that you feel so rotten, I hope urgent care and some medication can help you nip whatever has been brewing. I think a break and then heading back for EMH was a great choice given the heat.

It was a long trip, and I seem to have as many extra words when I am writing as when I am talking! I am glad my long stories are not scaring you away!

I have definitely been sicker. I tend to get sinus infections once or twice a year. If I were at home, I would not have sought meds at that point, but I figured it was moving in the wrong direction (getting worse) and wanted to stop it before it ruined the trip!

I was not calm at all. I cannot imagine what we must have looked like in the moment! I think I stopped the crowds in their tracks! If we would not have been in public, I am sure I would have flipped out a bit longer. (but thien again, not in public, we would not have had a stroller pushed over the curb...)

For being sick, you look great in the photos! I am sorry that had to happen but it sounds to me like you did a great job of getting over it quickly and getting things back on track - and thank goodness no one was seriously hurt! I wouldn't worry about the scene you may or may not have created - I can't count how many screaming kids, irritable families and arguments I have witnessed at WDW. As I mentioned before, it seems every WDW trip we take is full of moments I'd call "the highest of highs" - but also "the lowest of the lows." I think lots of families have those moments. Sorry you aren't feeling well - hope you can get some antibiotics! Hurry back with more!

Glad the stroller incident was not any worse! Stefanie remembers the sequence on the rides much better than Luke or I do, which always amazes me. She and Hannah would make terrific guides!

urgent care?

The concierage desk gave me a brochure for CentraCare, an Urgent Care facility in the area that provides FREE transportation to WDW resort guests. She made the call and a cab would be here to get me in 20 minues. Wow!

I then asked for help with our dinner ADR. We had 4:30 ADRs at Crystal Palace that we would not make. I wanted her to cancel the ADR and see if there was anything else available later. With the start of the free DDP, there was NOTHING. ANYWHERE. I was told by concierage that I should not cancel the CP ADR. Instead, whenever we get to CP, we should explain what happened, and they may be able to fit us in. I felt irresponsible, but she assured me that would be the best thing to do. She pointed out how full the restaurants are and that someone would take our place. DH took the kids to SAB and Hurricane Hanna’s while I went to Urgent care.

The van from CentraCare clinic arrived shortly. I joined one man in the van who had an eye injury. I arrived at the clinic about 3:00. I was diagnosed with a sinus infection, and my prescription was filled on the spot. The ease of this did wonders for my mood! I was even able to stop at the grocery store in the strip mall (to get some OTC meds, and a bag of other “essentials”) before getting a ride back to the BC. This time, it was not the CentraCare van but a traditional cab. The driver said that if there is not a clinic van available to pick up within 20 minutes of the call, a van is ordered. Usually they have 2 vans in operation, but at clinic closing time on a Sunday, there is only one and he was running other patients.

I was walking back into our room about 4:30, just as DH and the kids were coming in from the pool. He was surprised to learn that I was already back with meds in hand (and in body)! We rinsed the SAB sand off the kids and we were heading back MK about 6pm.

As we had been advised by the BC desk, we went to Crystal Palace and I explained the situation to the CM checking people in. She said it would not be a problem and we should be able to be seated within 20 minutes. It was about 6:30. The crowds outside CP were HUGE. The heat was sweltering.

We waited only about 10 minutes for a table—I think it was one of our shortest waits yet!

BUT—the restaurant was CROWDED. We were seated at a table in the middle of the dining room. People/servers/characters often touched us as they moved past. We often had to move our chairs in to allow people to momve about or get up from our seats so the tables next to us could have good pictures with the characters. It was very distracting and over-stimulating. At this meal, I came to realize another value of early ADRs for our family—when we arrived to an “empty” restaurant, we are more likely to be seated in a booth on an edge of the restaurant. Although not the “center of the action,” it is also not setting us up for sensory overload.

We were looking forward to CP. Especially after the positive reception CM had, we expected to enjoy this meal, and expected Hannah “to have more fun that [she] would expect.”

We forgot to “prep” Hannah for which characters would be there. An unfortunate oversight.

As soon as Hannah realized we would be dining with the Pooh friends, she freaked out. She really did spend much of this meal under the table, with little sister picking up on the cues. DS, who is not a huge fan of characters in general, did his best to make up for the fact that the girls were not willing to interact.

It was good that CP is a buffet, as it allowed us to get through the meal more quickly than if we would have had to order. We were hungry and we ate well, but none of us thought the food was spectacular. I liked the prime rib and a pasta primevera with feta. My favorite dessert was the tiramisu. Dh said the food was just average cafeteria-style food. Since kids were not interested in the characters and food was just okay, this was not a top choice for our family. The noise and the activity level were also a bit overwhelming. I do not expect us to return here in the future.

We emerged from CP at dusk. It was still very warm and humid—so humid you would sweat standing still-- but overall not as unbearable without the blazing sun. It was the last night of “Summer Nighttastic.” We hoped to make it that late.

There would be some explosions later that evening…would they be from the fireworks or…???

Great update! Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy CP, but I can totally understand why. It is a very loud and crowded place everytime we have been. I can see kdis getting overstimulated and overwhelmed. My DD has soem issues with that and luckily for us she actually loves CP and does well in there. Maybe it's bc she is eating and there's food? Probably...my DH is an eater, boy! She also LOVES the Pooh characters so this is one of our choices for every trip. That being said, I can completely understand why it might not be other families choice.
I don't know if you went to this restaurant at all during your trip, or how likely you are to take my advice after the tomato stack. But our fav restaurant in MK is the Liberty Tree Tavern. If you like homestyle new england food. Pot Roast, Turkey, Ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, salad, and apple crisp for dessert.
I actually went to LTT for the first time for lunch the last trip and liked it even better! Both meals are wonderful.
There are no characters at this meal too, which can be a plus for your fam.
Can't wait to hear more...nervous about the fireworks teaser though.
