As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Not quite sure if I should even attempt this!! I sometimes get anxiety in the darker rides...plus then with motion sicknesS?? I ride spider man with no problem..Simpsons made me feel a bit "off" but I did not get sick; how does this compare?? Thanks!
There is IMO a lot more motion on the Forbidden Journey than on Spiderman or The Simpsons. Your feet are dangling and again IMO it's way more intense than Spidey or Simpsons.

We are going to Universal in 2 weeks and I was thinking the same thing....briefly. I was reading a guidebook and decided I'm going for it! I am a huge HP fan and from the book's description, there will be so much to see on the ride, I should be ok. I will try to sit is one of the seats further back from the screen to cut down on my motion sickness (I can't sit to close to an IMAX screen - Ironman 2 was a nightmare for me).
It can't be any worse than the orange tix on Mission: Space in Epcot.
Do folks think dramamine or seasickness bands will make any difference?
I can't take oral meds for sickness because they knock me out!
I do use the bands (nick named Wonder Woman bands) and they really do help! I take 3 pairs with me; one in my pocket, one in the day bag & another back in the room for extra backup. The only time they really didn't work is Mission: Space. I don't think anything would have helped on that ride!
I'm going in a few weeks and can let you know how I fared. And I'm really bad with motion sickness!

There aren't any seats far away from the screen. All seats are front row......which makes it even more fun! You actually feel like you are flying with Harry Potter around and through the castle....all over the place! There is one point of the ride that you are actually laying on your back If you're a huge fan then go for it!!!!!!

The Forbidden Journey is very very intense, more so than Spiderman or the Simpsons. My first time I hated it. The second time I liked it much better, because I knew what to expect. Very intense with parts that are like a movie and parts with giant, in your face props. I can't remember if I took a Dramamine, but I think it wouldn't hurt. It is different, and if the movie parts bother you, close your eyes. (You won't be the only one! )
I can get motion sick on some rides (I won't do the full version of Mission Space) and I tried HP for the first time this weekend - I was afraid I would feel sick but I just couldn't miss it! It did make my head feel a little funny for a while but it didn't make me nauseous. There were a few times I had to close my eyes (the parts where the film zooms by gets to me!) but overall it was okay. I would definitely try it again!
Totally worth it!! Loved it!! DH pass once he has a lot of motion sickness....he barelly hand Spiderman and Simpsons...so. It is more intense than both, part movie part something (like a giant spider) pop in your face.
It was intense, I held on for dear life, but I am not sorry I rode. The special effects are amazing. You really feel like your are flying. DH on the right was in the extra room seat. He didn't quite fit in the regular seat.
For what it's worth -- all 6 of us rode the day after Thanksgiving, first thing in the morning.
My brother flew fighter jets for a living. He was fine.
DD 10 was fine, as was my niece. DD has never done "thrill rides" before and has mixed reviews of the other ones she did at US/IOA -- like Mummy, Dragon Challenge, etc.
My SIL wasn't planning to ride, but my niece told her it was "nothing" and that she'd be fine. SIL got off and headed straight for the wastebasket, where she promptly threw up. She threw up once or twice again in the next two hours. (Needless to say, she won't be taking her daughter's ride advice again any time soon.)
My DH, who makes fun of my motion sickness (thinks it isn't real) got off sweating profusely and white as a sheet. I thought he was going to have a heart attack. He went to the Owl Post and lay down on a bench until the world stopped spinning. He was queasy for quite a while.
I am the one in my small family with motion sickness issues -- I can't do IMAX movies, and the movies in China and France at Epcot make me ill. I go in so DH doesn't give me a hard time, but I sit on the floor with my eyes closed until they're over. I popped two Dramamine with my breakfast and was fine. I would have ridden again if the line wasn't so long.
We did the early park opening, and headed straight to FJ at 8 a.m.. We were off the ride before 9 but it was well after 11 before the family was able to do much of anything because DH and DSIL had to get their land legs back.
Personally, I was a bit disappointed in the ride. It was a lot of simulated flying and chases, but I thought the ride could have benefitted from a bit more of a story line. They have the ride technology and know how to use it, but I thought it could have been used better.
