Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Christmas trees and cats

My husband put up our Christmas tree on Tues and we are having the HARDEST time getting our two furlings,Rumpleteazer and Buttercup,to stay out of it! Buttercup likes to prowl the lower branches,as she is too fat to climb any higher and Rumpleteazer likes to sway back and forth on the upper limbs like a crazed tree angel. Thank goodness it's a fake tree and they can't really do any damage to it,nor can it do any damage to them.

Re: Christmas trees and cats

Been there done that....
We used to live in an Apartment and had a cat that thought the tree was put up for him and him alone. The first time I found him in it he scared the $#!% out of me. While falling asleep on the couch I start to hear some rustling in the tree. Thought I was just dreaming until the cat jumped from the tree onto my stomach

Re: Christmas trees and cats

DA...I know I've answered a few of your posts, but I haven't officially said...Welcome to the PassPorter boards! Glad to see you are jumping right in here.

We have three cats. The oldest two (ages 13 and 9) just kind of sniff the floor around the tree, especially when the pine needles fall. It's the baby (who is now 3!) we have the hardest time with. She likes swatting at any ornaments hanging within her reach (and she can jump extremely high! ). What a challenge!

Re: Christmas trees and cats

I'm afraid I can't be of much help to you here! My cat is THE dumbest cat I have ever met! He doesn't like trees and hides most of the time ours is up!

Signed,

The world's dumbest cat owner

Re: Christmas trees and cats

2 words for you: Spray Bottle!

My cats are so spray bottle trained that all I have to do is shake the bottle and they run!

It will be interesting to see how our newest addition Brewster reacts to the tree!

I'm putting our tree up a couple of days before we decorate it, so she can get used to the fact that she's not supposed to go near it!

Spray bottles rock!!

Re: Christmas trees and cats

LOL!Rumpleteazer(4)should know better than to climb the tree but seeing as most of my ornaments aren't breakable..I let her.Mostly because Buttercup(1 1/2)annoys the crap out of her and it's a way for Rumple to get out of reach of the little brat.Buttercup has been batting at non-breakable oraments on the lower level of the tree and I yell at her if I catch her.Mostly I don't have time to yell at them for being in the tree so I just let it go.What's a working gal to do?THese poor kitties gotta have SOME entertainment other than swatting at each other and watching birds, raccoons, etc in the backyard! Re: Christmas trees and cats

I heard sprinkling pepper (maybe cayanne?) on the branches make them not want to climb it. My sister's cat lives in her tree... But Tara, I believe we have the same cat! My Wedge hated the tree last year -- he thought I put it up just to scare him! It'll be interesting to see how my pyscho kitty does with it...

Re: Christmas trees and cats

With 5 cats in our household, we also have to anchor our tree to the wall!!! I don't put very many ornaments at the bottom of the tree, and NEVER put tinsel on the tree. Since my cats do not go outside, it is kind of fun to see what they do each year with the tree in the house!!!

Re: Christmas trees and cats

Since my cats are members of my family, I see the tree as being for them too. What we do every year is anchor the tree to the wall so it doesn't fall over and hurt them. We have a thin wire tied to the trunk and then the other end is nailed to the wall. The only ornaments we put on are non-breakable ornaments so if one of the cats bats an ornament off, it won't hurt him and I don't have to worry about broken ornaments. Some of my favorite photos over the years are of my cats laying under the tree on top of the presents and looking quite regal! I figure the Christmas season is too short to spend my entire time trying to keep the cats out of the tree! Happy Holidays everyone!

Re: Christmas trees and cats

No cats in our house, but I do have DD. She was yanking ornaments (the non-breakable ones) off the tree left and right for a while. I just let her do it and picked them one once an evening and put them back on. Didn't take long and she got sick of it and now she's on to trying to unwrap presents if I don't catch her quick enough! What a little devil, but we sure do love her and these are memories that last a lifetime!

Re: Christmas trees and cats

We usually put two trees up -- both artificial, one is a little 3.5 foot tree, the other is about 5.5 feet. Our beloved feline, Monk, used to LOVE to lick the branches on the 3.5 foot tree. So this year, we did not put up the 5.5 tree -- and put up only the 3.5 tree, with a twist. We put it up -- and set it onside of a wooden chest. This works perfectly. He sniffs at the tree, but does not "lick" it.
I would not mind his "sampling" -- except it leads to an upset tummy and then a yucky kitty "surprise."
Monk's favorite part of Christmas is "curling ribbon." He loves that stuff!

Re: Christmas trees and cats

We have 3 cats, and the older two just kind of check it out and then only use it when they want to hide. But, we have a new kitty (she's about 2, so not really a kitty), and we were not sure what she was going to do, but she really hasn't bothered the tree, just some sniffing and batting at the ornaments closest to the ground. Thanks God she has not even attempted to climb the tree. If I saw that, I would probably freak!
