As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Friday 25 December – part four: a film tour of some of our upcoming road trip...
Just as I felt ready to go again, we set of, but suddenly everyone was heading towards us. The heavens had opened, so we retreated back. A couple of minutes later, it eased off and we set off again.
I suggested that we stop in France to watch Impressions de France and, on the way, I got a Grand Marnier Slush, my final one of this vacation and that gave Mark the chance of a silly photo op:
I wasn’t allowed in with it, which was probably just as well, as I had forgotten that I had said to my parents to call around now and, as we walked around, the cell phone rang, so I caught up with them. When we were done with the call and I was done with my drink, we went back into the theatre, but there was another 10 minutes until the next performance, so we went and had a look in the wine shop instead and picked up a couple of things for us and some gifts for Sue and Steve.
Then it was off to see the film. You can tell that this is now ancient. I think it still dates from 1982 and certainly the cars in the Paris sequence suggests that. It was fun to try and spot places in France, particularly as we’re doing three road trips through France in 2010. At the end, I asked the French Cast Member for a list of the places featured in the film and he got me something. I was really pleased to see that one of the chateaux that I loved the look of was one that I was planning on seeing.
We headed outside and, once again, rain was threatening. We managed to get the last shot with the Photopass photographer by the fountains, before she packed up and headed off to hide out of the rain.
We headed out towards International Gateway and found a final Photopass photographer sheltering by the shop there, so got a shot there as well.
With that, we headed out of Epcot and back to the Beach Club.
We had a final look in the shop and made quite a few purchases, including a Grumpy sweatshirt for Mark, a 2009 scrapbook for me and we managed to use the last of our snack credits on breakfast for tomorrow and some bits for Sue and Steve.
Then we got the luggage from bell services and loaded the car up with only three cases fitting in the trunk. Then it was off to Orlando International Airport.
When we got there, finding the Hyatt was a bit of a nightmare, as it’s not very well signposted, but we got there in the end.
Next: sadder and sadder with the passing years.....

It's ironic how often this happens to us and our last day at Disney is often marred by miserable weather. It's almost as if it's telling us it's time to go...

Sounds like a greatlast day, even with the Christmas rain. You holiday meal sounded wonderful. I agree, I definitely could see Tutto Italia fitting in line with some of the signature restaurants, it definitely has the feel to it and the food is amazing. Love the pictures, glad you were able to catch a few last photopass photos before saying goodbye. I am looking forward to hearing about the Hyatt, we have always wanted to stay there just becuase it seems cool, and might actually do that depending on our flight time in August....
Friday 25 December – part five: sadder and sadder with the passing years.....
We got bell to bring our luggage up and left the car at the entrance to the hotel, explaining that we were checking in and getting our luggage sorted out and changing and then we’d be heading out again. I didn’t want to be stung with the $17 a day fee for self parking. Note – do not have a car when you stay here. :
We went up to check in on the fourth floor and the guy who checked us in turned out to be a DVC member and was off to the Villas at Wilderness Lodge the next day. Neat.
We were given our room on the sixth floor and it was about as far from the elevators as it was possible to be, literally half way round the four sides, with the elevators directly opposite.
When we got into the room, we had a view of the airport below, which was really neat to see everyone scurrying about beneath us.
Bell services brought the luggage up and we got changed and, true to our word, headed out and back towards Disney, getting some photos on the way.
We knew that we would be early for our dinner at the Yachtsman Steakhouse, so went to Pop Century first to get some photos there. We walked through the main lobby and the feature pool.
Then it was across the Generation Gap Bridge to where you can just see what’s been built of Legendary Years across the years. It looks sadder and sadder every time we see it.
We walked slowly back, contemplating whether anything will ever happen to that development. It’s a shame if it doesn’t. This resort doesn’t seem finished without it.
