Walking in a Disney Wonderland, December 8-15, 2009 - COMPLETE!! 5/7 - Page 51 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Kelly, the first series of pictures of Dylan holding both yours & Mikes hands is too precious. Dylan looks so content on the Carousel Horse. Ewww about the woman changing her kid on the bench. It is different if you change your kid in their stroller in a restroom stall, b/c there is no changing table, but not on a bench in the public eye where others sit on it. Thanks for the heads up on no changing table at CHH(if we stop there). The castle looks so beautiful lit up. So glad you all got to ride PP, PotC, & Jungle Cruise. It sounds like the skipper was great. Thank you for the heads up on Barnstormer with Dylan as I plan to take Skyler on it! I will be holding onto him for my dear life. So sad to hear that the next day of your trip is your departure day, however you have another trip to soon look foward to very soon.
Thanks Becki! Definitely hold on to Skyler on Barnstormer - I'm sure it's safe, but you can never be too careful.

Thanks Melissa! I fell like I've stretched this out about as far as I can right now, so I'll be wrapping it up soon - maybe today even. BUT I'll probably start my PTR for our August trip in about 2 weeks.

Thanks Sharon! I was so excited Dylan got to ride barnstormer even more so now that it may change themeing (isn't that what they're saying right now).
Great night time pictures!! I like the series of Epcot shots of you guys as well. Just think... soon it will be 4!
I totally agree on the Barnstormer comment. It takes off like a rocket and the 1st time Abby rode it she said she felt like she was going to come out of her seat! Now she's an old pro at the ripe age of 7!

Yay for Dylan on Barnstormer!! That is Jason's Fave roller coaster! Tell me though...aren't the seats a wee bit uncomfortable . Love the pic looking up at the castle all 'iced'. And that's funny about JC, we had never ridden it in the dark until our last trip.
I've gone blank (probably due to the excessively long time since I was last in the MK - Feb 08...08!!) - so what is "MiLF"? I almost spat out my drink when I saw it as I know there's another, very non-Disney, meaning behind those letters!

I don't really remember the seats as we only rode it once and it was over so fast.

MiLF = Monster's Inc Laugh Floor And I can see if you don't know what that means that it could be misinterpreted.

Thanks Crissy! Yes Biergarten was a good find. I can't believe I'm going to be starting a PTR right after I finish this TR. The TR might be a quick one since I will be expecting something soon after we get back.

Ah of course! I was wracking my brains to think of something with four words where the second one might be 'in' (because of the little 'i'...like 'VoTLM' having 'of' in it).

I have to wrap this up today since we leave for our next trip 3 months from today!!!
I have NO notes for today so I’m relying on the pictures we took to tell me what happened.
I’m sure we gathered all our stuff, checked out, and stored our bags with bell services (since we were flying Southwest, no RAC for us). [I’m happy to hear though that Southwest is now a participating airline and we should be able to take advantage of that on our upcoming trip. Does anyone know if they check you in 24 hours in advance?]
Since Epcot was just a quick walk away we went there for our last few hours. We didn’t have much time as DME was picking us up about noon for our 3:10pm departure from MCO. We headed to Future World since World Showcase wasn’t open. We spotted a new decoration up, the poinsettia trees:
Then we went to find Nemo.
Next up was one last ride on SSE, but sadly something happened and just as we were in the ramp that leads to the entrance we had to turn around and go back. We stood in line for quite a while – even the fire department showed up and walked past us. Mike did get a few shots of the loading area as it was one of the only times you were standing so close to it and didn’t have to keep walking to keep the flow going.
I love this pic of all of us!
walking back down the entrance ramp at SSE
I think we stopped in a shop on the way out for last minute souvies – I think it was a shirt for Mike and some candy for Dylan’s teachers for their Christmas present.
Dylan had to try on another hat.
We grabbed a quick bite to eat in the Marketplace at BC and then headed out to wait for DME. They were on time and we were one of the first to be picked up. I think we went to the Boardwalk next – and that stop took FOREVER! There were tons of people and one family didn’t have all their stuff together – they had a double stroller FULL of stuff in bags (like Disney bags) and were not ready when DME pulled up, nor did they start putting everything together once everyone else at the stop was boarding. I was sitting by the window and witnessed all of this – some people just baffle me. Anyway, we had one more stop – Caribbean Beach. My in-laws got a little taste of their beloved resort (I think out of the 20+ times they’ve gone to Disney they’ve only stayed at like 3 other resorts, one being BCV this time and POR or POFQ and one off-site. They LOVE CBR!!)
Once through security we had a bit of a wait at the gate and I tried to get Dylan to settle down, but that wasn’t happening. Soon before boarding I took him to the bathroom to change his diaper and when I got back the in-laws were in line to board and everyone else in the A group was lined up too. So I had to make a mad rush to get him and everything I was taking on the plane together. (Mike got a B boarding pass because his name is too common and close to someone on the ‘watch list’ I guess – we always have to get him a boarding pass at the airport.) Anyway, I’m trying to hold Dylan and all this stuff and he is not cooperating plus they pre-boarded like 8 people in wheelchairs and then I get slapped in the face. Literally, by my 2 year old. And it’s not like I can really reprimand him with 100s of people in very close proximity to us. So I put him down and just gave him probably the dirtiest/hurt look ever. I think it helped a bit, but he was still a pain and I pretty much had tears by the time I got to my seat on the plane – it just set me over the edge. I let Mike handle him for a while and then I was ok.
Our flight was uneventful and we were soon home. We stopped and got something to eat on the way to our house and took a look at our pictures then my in-laws headed to their home.
It was a great trip – much warmer than we anticipated for December. I think it was in the 80s several days and we didn’t pack any shorts! Maybe that’s why it didn’t feel too ‘Christmasy’ at the world this time, or maybe the cutbacks they did were enough to not get that feeling as much. All in all we had a great time and I’d love to go back during that time of year again. I enjoyed MVMCP, but I think I prefer MNSSHP more. I loved attending all the PP meets and wish I could have spent more time with everyone I met.
Next up…my August PTR with countdown!! Be on the lokoout - maybe I'll even start it today.
Great finish, Kelly! Sounds like it was a great trip. It was really wonderful to get to meet you. Thanks for sharing your TR with us and I'll keep an eye out for your next one!
