Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Need info...anyone heard of these Disney Auditions?

Lenny called me this morning and told me there was an add on the radio for Disney Auditions and that the first 200 people to get through would be picked. He said he got through and gave my cell number instead of his so if the phone rang, I should answer it. Well, my phone never rang so Lenny called the number back and I guess gave all our info (I wonder what kind he gave ) and now we're suppose to be at the Boston Marriott on Saturday at 11:30 for a 12:00 appointment, "dressed to impress". No sneakers, jeans or t-shirts. First of all, those three things I live in and definitely can't "dress to impress" even if I tried and second, I have no idea what we're even going there for. He couldn't even explain it.

So my question is....has anyone heard these adds on the radio? Can you tell me exactly what it's for? I tried googling it but I only seemed to find general information about Disney auditions. Nothing about this thing on Saturday. TIA

Sorry Lenny didn't get all the info. I'd try calling the marketing director at the radio station that he was listening to and ask for the information on that ad they ran.

If you are still interested, I'd put together an outfit that consists of nice slacks or a skirt, a blouse, and a cardigan sweater or blazer (no patterns). You should be able to find something suitable at a discount clothier or your local thrift shop, so that you don't have to spend a lot. May you could ask a friend that works in an office setting to go with you to help select the outfit?

Not a clue! I would try Hidden Mickey's suggestion to contact the radio station.

No idea! But Disney's idea of dressed to impress is pretty easy - slacks, long sleeved blouse or top (no wild prints), closed toed shoes i.e. flats, light make-up and minimal jewelry. Good luck!

I would try and contact the radio station to get the information - I did find this link: Disney Auditions for ALL Disney related auditions, but it does not list any going on this weekend in Boston, MA.

They did that here locally and it was kind of a scam thing where they tried to sell the parents of the kids expensive acting classes. The ad made it sound like it was casting directors for Disney and such. Don't know if this is the same thing but the ads here were on the Disney channel and I know someone who went (friend of dd's) and was very disappointed.

I would check your local John Robert Powers affiliate to see if they have auditions scheduled this Saturday. That's usually who is running these kinds of auditions. I don't know if it's technically a scam, but when I signed Zack up one time he went through a host of auditions was told that he "made it" and asked to sign up for classes that start at $1900 for a 10-week class. Needless to say, as much as I think my kid is a "star", I think anyone could be if they had the money. Hopefully this is something totally different, but that would be my best guess!

Lenny didn't get a chance to call the radio station (he heard it on WBZ) but we got a "confirmation" email about that appointment on Saturday. First of all, it was supposedly from "singpopsing.com" which isn't even a website. It had lines for 6 to 9 year old to learn, 10 to 13 year olds and 14 to 17 year olds. And at the bottom of it was this link

The

I went there and the website isn't working properly for me (not a big deal, I don't care) but I was able to get the FAQ's to come up. And from what I read, it sound like the situation Karen mentioned above

Quote:

Needless to say, Lenny is calling and cancelling that appointment tomorrow (he just doesn't know it yet). If it were something truly with Disney, I wouldn't have second thoughts about it. But nothing about this whole thing says Disney is involved in any way shape or form - not the website, not the email that went to my spam folder. I've had misgivings since Lenny told me about it yesterday. Now I have them even more so. Besides, as much as Lenny thinks this is a good opportunity - for what, I have no idea - I know Abby best. She did great with her parts in the school plays the last two years, but Abby's not an actor. She sometimes gets upset when Lenny films her. I can't imagine how upset she'd get with the real thing and people who are not mom telling her what to do. She sometimes gets upset when teachers tell her what to do and she certainly doesn't listen to her father. And not to mention the fact that a lot of things she loses interest in 5 minutes after she starts. She loves playing the violin and recorder at school this year but she doesn't even practice here at home no matter how often I urge her to. School tells me she's doing great despite that, but this isn't a situation for Abby.

But anyway, thanks so much for the info everyone. My gut told me something was wrong with the situation and you guys (and that email) just helped to confirm it.

Exclamation Singpopsing is trying again - March 31

They have an ad on Kiss-108 that sounds like they are auditioning people to be in a commercial with Demi Lovato. You call the number, they send you an email to give you an appointment at the Hyatt Regency Boston, same language "The dress is upscale, no jeans or sneakers. Dress like your (sic) going to a nice dinner."

Thanks for letting us know they are a scam selling acting lessons - we can skip the "appointment" now.

Hi and Welcome to the boards Publius3.

I'm glad that you came across this post before you got there. I don't think it's right what these people are doing but I suppose some people don't care and will take their kids and shell out the money for it.

I just took my daughter to the Boston 'talent' event. First let me say, that I felt it was pretty harmless to go because this first step is free...Frankly, I wanted to see if my daughter could do it by simply trying. The "The" firm seemed very professional from start to end and very real. We had to go through a 2 step interview process then an audition on camera. We were told that if we are selected, we would be invited back TOMORRROW (easter sunday) and that we would have to email them to find out if were selected... We can't email until tomorrow...They are a very clever marketing firm because are playing 100% of people's emotions and the feeling of "exlcusiveness" and "really hard to get"....That said, their brochure has ZERO information about who they are or their website.... They are basically trying to sell you a trip to their 'auditions' for a cost between $2000 and $8000 at Disney in July. (Nothing to do with Disney just *at* Disney) where you have a chance to meet talent agents, acting coaches, etc...the more you pay the more you meet...again a classic marketing strategy at play here.

My net take is that I believe we *will* get a call tomorrow (Im not snotty just know how these firms work) but I will NOT accept it. If you do go, they ask you on the spot to PAY for the disney thing..right in front your kid...How's that for pressure? You have NO time to think about it.... I suppose if I had money to burn it sounds like a great experience if you child is thinking about acting, modeling, etc..but I still feel like its not genuine...I would not say "scam" per se, but certainly a dubious proposition at best.

Oh, one last bit, the talent agent that led the event was an A+++ sales person.. She was also the person who individually interviewed us... She spoke incredibly fast and during our interview made us feel like we had ZERO chance to ask ANY questions and that if we did not follow her instructions EXACTLY, we would not make it.... Very effective, but beware!!!

Thank you for starting this post...Now others can find out more about this.

Oh, their website is The. I think I'll go to Better Bus Bureau now to see if they have any complaints against them... My gut: If it FEELS weird it probably is.

scam is a strong word and I wouldn't use it unless you were 100% they were mis-representing or explicitly deceiving the public about what they do. They clearly spell out in their brochure what they do, how much it costs, etc and make no claim of their association with Disney or anyone else. What I take issue with with is their tactics and style. I have yet to see any fraud or deception. Sorry to say this, but its analogous to a used car salesman approach- you really dont like their style but you are still in control of your own checkbook!
