As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

New AK coaster rumor
QUOTE from the DIS Rumors:
"...I've just recently been told that the AK coaster has "moved onto the next level of approval". Apparently, the budget has remained at approx 125 million up until now. From the info I received, the AK coaster apparently has two more hurdles to clear before final funding.
The source of this information is reliable but as always things change. But, it sounds promising"
What do you think about that???

Maybe that's why they cut out E-Ride Nights in May; to save money toward this. Harharhar

Re: New AK coaster rumor
Wow, I hope it's true. $125 Million is a pretty fat budget for a coaster! Must be something spectacular with that kind of price tag - let's hope your source is correct! Any guesses to type or theme?!?

Re: New AK coaster rumor
I would like to see a "stand-up" or "Hanging" Tarzan coaster at Animal Kingdom. It could look like the vines that twist and turn.
My other thought is a Monsters, INC coaster that has you fastened to doors and goes into the dream factory! That would be cool.
Primeval Whirl was a blast by the way. Good ride with nice twists and turns.

I really like that Tarzan coaster idea! That would totally work in that setting. Too bad we're not in charge!

Re: New AK coaster rumor
All positive news about Beastly Kingdom and the new coaster these days One of the rumors thrown out at Screamscape awhile back was the possibility of a tie in with the movie release this summer of "Reign of Fire", a dragon film that sounds like it fits both BK and some sort of dragon coaster theme perfectly.
Here's the new Reign of Fire site. This could make for a great ride. Especially if that stop and go ride concept is for real. A $125M sure sounds promising enough to build a good one.

Re: New AK coaster rumor
This is pretty cool from Screamscape today.

A reader was surfing the web the other day when they came across a page full of shocking photos that must have something to do with Beastly Kingdom’s long talked about Dragon themed coaster ride. This is a company that designs props from films as well as theme parks, and they have done plenty of work for Disney projects all over the world it seems, but their most impressive work has yet to be seen by the guests.

Re: New AK coaster rumor
Unfortunately some CMs are posting that these may be props that were made quite awhile ago and never used. May or not be the basis the for the rumored new ride or BK. On second thought it does seem unlikely that EB Effects would post pictures of props currently in development for a ride and park area that has yet to be officially announced. Who knows though.
Still seems like a pretty good fit for everything we've heard. It'll be interesting to see if those pictures stay up.

Re: New AK coaster rumor
Excellent news!! I've been all over the Reign of Fire web site, and saw the prop photos at E.B. &, it looks plausible that they would use armor (!), but it doesn't look like there's anything armored (except the tanks) in the trailers. Ah well, I'll ride it! I would still like to see some kind of "hanging" roller-coaster-type ride for Monsters, Inc. That would be so cool!

Re: New AK coaster rumor
Just returned from the world last week - a CM saw my California Adventure Tee-Shirt and we started talking about CA. I mentioned Soaring Over California being a great ride and he said that he's heard that AK is geared up for a similar ride there, but with scenes from Africa. That sounds like it would be way cool. Do you think that these two rumors are about the same thing?

Re: New AK coaster rumor
The Soaring rumor has come up again lately in reference to a supposed May 18th "new attraction(s) announcement date. There's talk that it could be for either AK (I've seen Australia as a possibilty too) or Epcot.
In any case, I'd say it's a safe bet some sort of Soaring clone will make it's way to WDW pretty soon. It's a proven winner that's been highly praised by Disney management and can be made to fit just about any theme. I just hope any sort of summer announcements also include BK and the new coaster.
I can't wait to see a Soaring version at WDW but, they wouldn't exactly be breaking any new ground here. And it might not generate the kind of excitement they're hoping for at AK. The kind that the confirmation of some of the more ambitious rumors could bring.

Re: New AK coaster rumor
Interesting from themeparks.com:
Quote:
Ok...I am watching E! this morning and they are showing coming attractions for movies...One of the movies is about Dragons and England in the future title Reign of Fire...and along with their commentary they mention that Disney is so hyped about this movie they have already announced plans to build a roller coaster at Disney's Animal Kingdom to go along with this new movie. They have? When? This would fit in nicely with a Beastly Kingdom area of the park but I haven't seen any new announcements from Disney. Hopefully we will get some official news soon - and give us one more thing to look forward to.
|
<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">The Reign of Fire rumor's been around awhile now. But this anouncement bit, though wrong-at least with regards to a public announcement, is still interesting...momentum continues to build...

Re: New AK coaster rumor
I've always hoped for a wooden coaster at WDW or US/IOA. I dearly love them and it boggles the mind to think what the Disney imagineers could do with a wooden coaster.
Cheers
