As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Halloween Happenings across the Nation\'s Theme Parks
Halloween is big business for the theme parks in America - a little bit of horror goes a long way towards the bottom line. Here are a few highlights at some of the major chains:
Cedar Point's HalloWeekends: Everyone in the family will enjoy the excitement of HalloWeekends at Cedar Point. Thrill seekers looking for scares will find it in three haunted houses, the dark and sinister Fright Zone and the all-new Werewolf Canyon. Children can visit Camp Spooky, and a magical playhouse just for kids will echo with laughter. Cedar Point's huge collection of rides will be waiting for you.
Busch Adventure Parks Howl-O-Scream: This Halloween, the rides and attractions of Busch Gardens take on a new edge of terror. Ghouls and goblins are out in full force for this spooktacular event. Busch Gardens transforms into a "scream" park experience that will have you howling at the moon. Daylight hours offer fun for little goblins, but the nights of Howl-O-Scream are for terror seekers.
Universal Halloween Horror Nights: October 3-5,10-12, 15-19, 22-26, 28-31, & Nov. 1, 2003
Explore new dimensions of mind-bending terror when Universal’s Islands of Adventure® dares you to experience the biggest, most horrifically fun annual Halloween party of all time. Scream as the streets come alive with the walking dead as hundreds of mutants, maniacs and monsters emerge from the darkness. Squirm as you wander through terrifying haunted houses. And howl at hilarious live stage shows.
Six Flags Chain Fright Fest: Guests who dare to visit Six Flags during Fright Fest, will find that the entire park has been transformed into a haunted SCREAM park. As CedarFair owns Dorney Park, we'll be doing HalloWeekends once or twice this October at Dorney - once for my birthday and once with some friends for our wedding anniversary bash. [img]graemlins/love.gif[/img] Is it any wonder why I love October and Halloween?! [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

Ah, one of my favorite holidays. We've been to MNSSHP and Fright Night at Universal Studio. My son Chris was 10 at the time and Universal's party was way too scary for him. It was my fault. I bought tickets at the same time I got the Disney tickets thinking they would be similar. I was wrong! Some of the stuff Chris DID enjoy were the parade, it had the most fantastic floats ever, and a bit of Mardi Gras style complete with throwing beads to the crowd; he liked the face painting, and the shows. We never got near the 5 haunted houses because Chris was so freaked out by the zombies chasing us with chain saws. He thought they were real, the poor kid. I had a huge dose of Mommy guilt, but it's a great night for older kids and adults.

We did the Universal Halloween nights a few years ago. They did a wonderful job setting up, but the crowds...oy! When I lived in Chicago, Six Flags was a regular stop for me. Next up on my list is Mickey's party, of course. [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img]

For the past few years, we have made the annual trek to Cedar Point for Halloweekends. IMHO, this is the *best* time to visit Cedar Point. As the weather is crisp & cool, the crowds are pretty light, and the atmosphere is a blast! I am not into haunted houses, but I do love the fun decorations, music, shows, etc.
This year, we will also attend MNSSHP for the 3rd year. [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] Woo-hoo!
Fall is such a great time of year. I love all the festivals, etc.

If you have real little kids, Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, Pa has some wonderful events for Halloween on the weekends leading up to Oct. 31. It's not scary at all..it focuses on preschool and toddler age children. Great family rides and attractions!! This park is owned by Hersheypark so it's a nice one!

Also... there are sometimes some pretty good discount coupons available for Cedar Point during Halloweekends. Last year, Lil Marcie Mouse was able to send me some coupons from her store. (Thanks, again -- Marcie!) I have also heard of some past coupons available through their website. (I don't know if this is 100% factual, as I have only heard on that, though... but it may be worth checking out.)

Actually, my suggestion to anyone doing the Fright Nights at Universal. If you find the lines to the Haunted Houses to be a long wait (i.e. over an hour), skip it. They are done up really well, but not good enough to wait for. Instead, try and hit them when parades or other happenings are going on and the lines aren't as long.
