Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: NY Camping vacation ideas?

Hey there! Since you have specifically asked about fishing in New York, you might give this site a peek - it seems there is an abundance of info for the fisherman! Hope it helps.

Re: NY Camping vacation ideas?

Thanks again!

Bert & Sully - We did actually consider Maine, as a first choice, but with the kids, we thought an 11 hour drive would be too much...when DH and I can go by ourselves, we will be heading to Maine. DH actually went to college in the Biddeford area....

Dad2jbj - Thanks for the fishing link! DH is busily searching it now for more info...

Thanks!

Re: NY Camping vacation ideas?

Denise, My DH loves to go fishing too. We went to Lake George last year dragging our fishing boat behind us and we had a great time. He and our 9 year old son were out fishing every morning at 6 a.m. and caught lots of fish(I slept in!). We did some swimming, and some tourist type things too. We played miniature golf, went to a Six Flags amusement park, took a tour of the lake on a huge paddleboat (the Minnehaha), toured Fort William Henry, and spent time relaxing on the beach. The camp grounds are beautiful - lots of families and lots of activities for the kids. We're going back next year, but we might rent a cabin instead of camping.

You could drive to Bar Harbor, Maine
<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">I would agree with Bar Harbor totally. We went the past 2 summers. If it wasn't for us saving our vacation time for another trip to WDW in December, we would be heading there for a third summer.

Great campgrounds. One of them Mount Narrows Campground is highly rated by Woodalls, Trailer Life, etc. and rates a 9 out of 10 on my personal scale. It is right on the ocean. By the way Disney's Fort Wilderness is my idea of a 10+. They have lots of stuff for kids (pool, playground, arcade, etc) and every night a different fun show. You gotta see Elvis...he is fantastic.

Acadia National Park is breathtakingly gorgeous. You can catch one of the free (let me repeat that FREE) Island Explorer tour busses right at the campground that will take you all over the park. The busses are part of the National Parks Service.

Forget about that 11 hour ferry boat to Nova Scotia. We took The Cat Ferry which makes the trip from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia in about 2 1/2 hours! It is a huge catamaran high speed ferry that speeds over the waves at about 60 mph. It has a bar, restaurant (we had prime rib for dinner on the return trip)and even a casino. For kids there is a family area where they show Disney movies. Oh and you don't want to miss standing on the rear deck watching that huge "rooster tail" shoot out from those powerful jet engines.

We left our camper in Bar Harbor and went over as foot passengers for the day. You can spend the day exploring Yarmouth NS or like we did rent a car (fairly cheaply I may add) and explore that way. We did the lighthouse route up the coast which is beautiful.

Can you tell we love Maine?

Re: NY Camping vacation ideas?

Thanks, RocklandRVers, but it seems Maine is just out of the question for this trip...

We checked Acadia, and there are no available campsites for the week we wanted to go, and really, I think the trip is just too far. Maybe next time...

Re: NY Camping vacation ideas?

Awwwww thats too bad. By the way, our favorite campground, Old Mill Campground is close enough for us to get to for weekend stays and is not too far from you...in Lancaster, PA.

We love it for several reasons. It is close to lots of stuff we love to do. Amusement parks (we can walk to Dutch Wonderland and Hershey is about a half hour away)Theater shows (3 dinner theaters and 4 others), Amish country sightseeing, outlet shopping (2 outlet malls)and just the fun of camping.

We go at least once a month to Old Mill.

Re: NY Camping vacation ideas?

Denwol, can you handle yet another suggestion? Since you said you are closer to Western NY, how about Letchworth St. Park, near Geneseo, about 45 min. south of Rochester? There's a gorge there that's just spectacular, and its centrally located enough to do day trips into Rochester (Strong Museum, Science Museum/Planetarium, Eastman Kodak house, SeaBreeze Amusement Park), or to explore the fingerlakes. Palmyra's Hill Cumorah Pagent, which is an outdoor show held on a hill every weekend tells the story of the founding of the Mormon Church, and is really something to see. Also wouldn't be that far from Watkin's Glen, where they have a neat laser show at night called "Timespell". Good luck in whatever you decide, and have a good trip!

P.S. I live in upstate NY, so I've been to Lake George (another great suggestion!), Old Forge and Letchworth/Finger Lakes. P.M. me if you want, and I'll try to answer any questions!
