Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What'd you want to know about Sedona? It's breathtaking, has great restaurants, and is on the way to the Grand Canyon!

Re: Sedona, Arizona info wanted

Bert and Sully,
I was thinking about going to Sedona as a family vacation. I was just looking at some websites and there are all kinds of tours. It's hard to know where to even begin. I was only thinking of staying in Sedona a few days and would want some family type activites, plus I would like to do some new age stuff like a vortex tour or something, without the family. Any recommendations? Also, how far away is the Grand Canyon and are those tours good for a family (DS's ages 10 and 6)or is it just best to look on your own? Our family has never done any kind of a vacation, other than Disney. DH says we need a break from Disney , so I'm just starting to investigate. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Sedona, Arizona info wanted

I lived in AZ for three years and loved every part of the state. Sedona is about two hours from the Canyon, but I'd suggest you drive to Flaggstaff, about 30 minutes away and take the train up to the Canyon. The traffic in and out of the Canyon is a ROYAL PAIN. Also consider heading south to Tuscon and Tombstone and Bisbee. MAke it a driving vacation and enjoy as much of the State as possible.

Elaine - Thanks for letting me know. I'm not in any hurry for the information.

Elliot's Dragon - Is the train from Flagstaff to the canyon like a tour you take on a train or do you take the train like you'd take a bus for transportation (did that make sense?).

Re: Sedona, Arizona info wanted

Hello Marv/Michelle! Last year I visited my parents in Phoenix and we drove up to Sedona for the day. Next week I am taking the rest of my family for a visit. We will be spending a little more time in Sedona on the way to the Grand Canyon. E-Mail with your address and I'll bring home some brochures and information for you.

I was very impressed with the natural beauty of the area. It is stunning. There are many new age businesses which can provide you with all the vortex information and tours if that is what you're looking for. I am not interested in that, so I wasn't really looking, but it was so prevalent it can't be missed.

As far as a family outings, there are Pink Jeep Tours which provide everything from a 1.5 hr. trip to an all day excursion. http://www.pinkjeep.com/ We aren't doing this in February because the open Jeep might get a bit chilly (keep in mind that Sedona is much chillier than, say, Phoenix). But I would definately consider this another time. It looked like every Jeep I saw was having a grand time.

Joe and Elaine have answered your other questions. Just one more thing I might mention. There is a great little restaurant that has over 100 kinds of omlets. I can't remember the name, but it was great. It has a big coffee pot on the roof - you can't miss it. I'll get the name when we are there.

Like I mentioned before, e-mail me and let me know if there is anything in particular you'd like me to check out for you.

P.S. Joe - we are doing just what you suggested, and taking in a good chunk of the state. We plan on taking in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Carefree, Sedona, Grand Canyon, Tucson, Nogales, Tombstone, Bisbee. We haven't been to the Canyon before, but the rest of the state seems like real easy driving. (Even with a state full of elderly out-of-town drivers, including my dad. Sedona, Arizona info wanted

Many months ago, I remember reading an article in our paper about Sedona. It's growing in popularity, as a new age spot. Has anyone ever visited there?

Patty C. - That is so nice of you. I sent you a PM. Everyone here is so great!

Everyone else, thanks again, too. I have been checking out websites, but it's hard to know how to narrow it down.

Re: Sedona, Arizona info wanted

The train ride is aboard an old steam engine.out of Williams,AZ. They have package deals.
As for Phoenix, the ugliest part of AZ. Don't plan too much time here. Go to the Mystery Castle near BAseline Ave. and 7th Street. At the base of South Mountain. In the summer, heaad over near Scottsdale and go tubing down the Salt River. Really fun! In Tuscon, take the drive up Catilina Mountain. AWESOME! you drive thru six stratas. You start in the desert and two hours later you are at a ski lodge all on the same mountain. I could go on. I loved vacationing there. The living part was not so much fun.

Re: Sedona, Arizona info wanted

I honeymooned in Arizona (Flagstaff was our base) and daytripped to all sorts of places including Sedona. It was lovely, but my favorite part was Oak Creek Canyon on the way into Sedonna from Flagstaff...wooded and watery, so different from other parts of the landscape. My folks spent two weeks there in November and had a wonderful time. I wish I could remember the place they stayed (it was a timeshare). Definitely a great place for a vacation. -HiddenMickey

Thanks everyone, I'm putting all of the ideas down in a notebook. I think if we decide to vacation here, we may need more that a couple days!
